I liked the twist. Ofcourse the game wasn't what we expected it to be but all in all it was a good experience.

One thing I dont understand is, did BB and medic both went into a coma for 9 years and came back to life around the same time..? Or the real Big Boss came out alot earlier but returned to the hospital in Cyprus for the plastic surgery..?

And if the real BB wasnt in coma for 9 years, what was he doing?.. just hiding somewhere and planning this whole thing based on his hopes and assumptions that the medic would come back to life.

Big Boss was in a coma but awoke earlier i believe. Assumingly Big Boss was building Outer Heaven or some shit during the time but the game ends on such a wet fart it's hard to say. Venom was killed by Solid Snake in 1984 (MG1) and Solid Snake fights Big Boss in MG2

Also enough with the "twist adds nothing to the story". That is "metal gear solid" in a nutshell. Every new game has retcons and plot that makes the overall story so convoluted that it never adds anything just makes it convoluted. Before I played the series, I tried to read up on the series and laughed about how many dead people came back to life, again and again and again. The twist for me fits in perfectly to what metal gear solid is... Just let it roll off you and enjoy the amazing gameplay.

For me, Phantom Pain is either the best or second best along with Snake Eater and MGS1 close behind. Those 3 are my holy trinity and I'm still in a love/hate relationship with MGS2.

The whole point of turning medic into Venom was to divert the world's attention away from Big Boss while he creates Outer Heaven. If he started building OH way before medic even woke up... then what was the point?

I assumed that after the twist that maybe Solid killed Venom in MG1... but wasnt sure. Has that been confirmed?

I called the twist the second I put together TPP was MGS with 100% certainty seeing as I'm already used to the way Kojima pulls his stunts.

So going into the game wasn't really that bad for me.

Was still expecting the story to be a lot more fleshed out, but as far as the game being a game.

It is one of the best I've ever played.

yes but other twists atleast had some substance and were explained properly not just thrown in and did a "got ya" moment, everything we did in the game is much smaller scale on what the real big boss was doing, and I wanted to be doing that instead something that doesnt matter.

I play the game now and people refer to me as boss and i cant help but be irritated and think, nope im not the real boss I am a fraud wanna be

So, what's the point of the battle gear that Huey builds? I haven't seen a whiff of it since the cutscene announcing it was finished.

No. Compare to the Raiden twist in MGS2 - that happens very early in the game, the entire game builds on it from there on out. The Venom twist in MGS V is there for no reason since it's the last thing you see and the game does nothing to build on it. It's just thrown out there.

It was obvious to me before the game even came out, I expected the twist to be that it wasn't the twist like how Ocelot didn't betray anyone. Then I heard Ishamel had Keifer's voice...

LOL the dude thinks this twist is awesome tier, let him enjoy it.

Typical villain incompetence. Ocelot, Solidus and Volgin all didn't take their chance too, it got them far.

It's weird because he specifically went

"You need to die! I need to kill you!

"So I'm going to leave with my mech that currently has you in its grip and just assume the skulls will kill you. Have a good day, I guess."

I loved the first and last quarters of the story. After seeing the intro I fully bought into the pre-release speculation of the main character not being Big Boss so the twist wasn't really that big of a twist for me, more of a confirmation.

I still have those final cassette tapes to listen to as it was quite late when I finished the game, so I don't know what they do to tie things up more.

I really didn't care about anything with Skull Face, as a villain he's just incredibly dull.

Would have liked to see Strangelove in the game and not just have her be a part of Huey's weird arc.

Listening to the tapes makes me feel kinda bad for Miller. He was really trying to help Eli and the other kids. Which makes me feel even worst about his death and then impersonation by Liquid. If only we could've got cool cut scenes with them interacting.

Best I could do, there seems to be no better stock to use.

We should've known this game wasn't going to be canon based on all the fake ass weapons in the game. I'm pretty sure the Soviet's used AK-74's during their occupation of Afghanistan... not whatever the fuck is in the game.

Goddamn budget.

MGSV

A game of missed opportunities.

MGSV has a good story waiting to be told, there's hints all over the sparse narrative but you can tell something nasty happened during development. It just feels rushed to get to the twist. Chapter 1 feels like the first act and chapter 2 feels like it was cobbled together with the content they had.

I've heard that if you wait too long on the legendary gunsmith side op you must grin side ops until itncomes back? I missed out on it and it disappeared, gave up on trying to get the side op back eventually, though if anyone knows what I need to do I'd appreciate it. Wish I could make something like this, its awesome!

See this is an interesting concept, though I don't think enough emphasis is placed on this.

Yeah I prefer the interpretation that Venom was duped this whole time (like the player) and was in too deep to back down at that point, but would have killed BB himself given the chance. There's even a tiny way you can read into later BB MG1 dialogue with this.

Regardless of whether Venom accepts it, the truth is Big Boss does in fact go along with total brainwashing and orders a soldier to die for him. Though you could also see that he doesn't know Solid will kick Venom's ass, but then just turn it around and realize that he ordered Solid to his death.

In any scenario though, it isn't enough to really explain how BB "became a demon", even if you interpret Venom as being pissed when he finds out, and being used as a disposable pawn without remorse or consent. There needs to be more, it is clear Kojima either didn't want to tell that story, or intentionally chose subversion as a higher priority. Ironically though, the game leaves a perfect set up for the new Metal Gear writer(s) to redeem things and actually make a game that fulfills this one's premise and promise.

It's quite simple, more than one side ops cannot be activated in a certain region. So for the first legendary gunsmith side op I believe it takes place in Masa village in Africa so basically do any active side ops you have there and once there are none left the legendary gunsmith one should be active again.

Thanks for the compliment by the way :D

Ha no the twist is stupid fun like the rest of the series. For me, metal gear is not meant to be taken seriously and I find it crazy that people can be upset about this story. Gameplay for me is what series is about and story is a guilty pleasure like watching a soap opera. It's entertaining but don't think about it too hard...

So, we had discussion fragments about the hallucinations, but I wanna talk about all of them. He game wasted good oppurtunities of using hallucinations or the mere possibility of them and executed almost all of those it has terribly.

In fact there are only three hallucinations in the game.

(1) There is obviously your true face in reflections, the subtle one in the helicopter window is great, but at the hospital it's just too on the nose for the twist. All in all there wasn't much of this.

(2) Skullface after he is killed. While it looked great, I feel like it's wasted. He could've been there from there on, occasionally appearing to tell you to embrace the bad. Just imagine you're on a killing spree and suddenly you hear Skullface laughing or your holding a guy up for a while and he starts yelling: "Do it! Kill him!"

(3) Paz. Paz was generally an interesting idea and I liked the conclusion. However Miller and Ocelot appearing was just dumb cheating to throw us off. Just let her be there, explaining that she surived and have Venom not question that at all. He isn't talking much either way, so it wouldn't be that unusual. It would also nice to have glimpses of her on MB. Like looking at one of the posters or just walking around an edge with her vanished when the player goes around that one too.

(4) They messed up the Man on Fire, Mantis, Ishmael and Skull potential. The problem is that the effect on their surroundings made very clear that they existed. Ishmael should never shot anyone, but handed you the gun for apparently no reason. Nobody should've reacted to the man on fire, just to sudden bursts of fire that could also be just the hospital on flames and some chemicals or something. And the Skulls, mna the skulls. They should've been teased early, but only used from the middle of chapter 1. Just imaging mist appearing and just glowing eyes that wander through it. The Skulls surely have other dutys and would maybe not care for you at the early points of the game. Just imagin mist and hlowing eyes and boss asking what this is, but neither Miller nor Intel can see anything through the mist.

The idea of not knowing what's real and what not could've been explored very vastly and to great effect. I repeat my suggestion of MB as a mind palace.

(a) Motherbase could be a actual base and a dreamworld at the same time with Venom wandering of in unfinished rooms to dream. You could unlock and visit different rooms with past memories. Just imaging entering a room and suddenly being in a remake of an MGS3 bossfight. Like this old missions could be entered too, signififying how Venom just remembers them in a way. And in fact, you could remake stuff from old games slightly wrong. Like have The End, but his dark skin on his head is in a wrong pattern. Have more people lole Paz who may or may not be there. Have Strangelove there until you hear that she left the base. Mix that with people from that are actually here like Miller and Huey for maximum effect of not knowing what's going on and what not.

This could further explain why Venom is so silent. After al he doesn't know what is going on half of the time and he rather waits to be sure.

(b) Make more of the demon system. Somebody suggested this in the last thread. Have dead people appear like decoys when you have too many demon points. They would look like normal people, but would have no stats and would vanish once you hit them wih anything. Have on the other hand have friendly ghosts appear when you goy little to no demon points. Occasionally a shadow of Boss or Zero appearinh pointing silently to the location of a diamond or a blueprint would be cool. Or imagine ghost soldiers of your dead appearing who stay guard as you escape in a helicopter when the enemy is on alert. They wouldn't do anything. Just be there showing how much Venom values loyality.

(c) Have characters in general appear as Venoms thought process, showing that he is silent, but listening. When somebody asks Venom let different people appear behind him, giving their comments. When something technical comes up let Huey and Strangelove appear, when it's about surviving Ocelot and the boss. And make sure that absolutely nobody appears when something medical would come up.

(d) Regular ghosts of characters, dead or not, could also make the fanart ending with Venom dying in Outer Heaven and Quiet appearing? Is she a ghost that comforts Venom? Is she taking him to heaven? Or did she survive and is saving him and he lived some happy days with her in secret? For the player to decide.

So Huey was an asshole right? Or was I just hallucinating that?

Huey is the worst. At least getting cucked to death by his own kid is a fitting end for such a shithead.

Edit: While I say that I don't think Huey's stuff is badly written. Sure he's a miserable little weasel who cannot stop lying but when he finally gets cornered the stuff he says about Diamond Dogs is true, I liked him comparing them to D.D. saying that they call him a dog but anyone can see that he is a just a wolf. Him pointing out the odd cultish mentality they have around Big Boss (who isn't even the real Big Boss) works, it's good to have that kind of character I guess.

finished mission 46

so; they made me play through the slow-ass boring intro again

all to reveal a "clever" twist (by 2 changes, even tho I gotta play the whole thing) the game fellates itself over that has absolutely no sense nor bearing on anything that happened and provides no closure other than being all "HA! TWIST!" for no reason

that's some shyamalan crap level kojima. god damn, ew

what was the point. how is it an ending

My favourite part is that it still has all the tutorial prompts.

Huey was fascinating to me... His were my fav tapes...

I didn't like the Hospital the first time through, making me replay it for such a shallow twist did not make me happy. At least when MGS4 made me crawl on my stomach for 5 minutes it was a really good scene.
