Also the way Big Boss handled Quiet was really...not at all like Big Boss.

He jumped on her back and then threw a bed pan at her.

Good job, father of close-quarters combat.

figured if he did anything too Big Boss-y he would blow his cover

My favorite part of the Metal Gear series is when Solid Snake is given combat training and survival advice by a blind, one armed, one legged, hamburger entrepreneur who is self-taught after being a gentle Japanese street cop.

Play all the truth tapes.

Zero visited Big Boss while on a coma, while he wants the legend to live on, he sort of want him to join him too.

Also Big Boss is well aware about the twin snakes in the game.

Guess I'll have to play the rest of the tapes tomorrow. I did enough to unlock the ending and played that while finishing some of them tonight.

Solid looked at him and thought "man this guy's been through some shit, I should listen to him".

Finally bothered listening to the 'truth tapes', hours after beating the game.

Jesus, why oh why was this - the very best part of the entire story, and by far the best acted - relegated to post-game tapes, by which point all hope had been lost for the narrative and I barely cared any more? Zero's actor is superb, and what you learn there transforms your understanding of a lot of the characters in ways far more profound than the stupid Venom twist.

I also went back and watched some MGS3 and 4 cutscenes. Man, it's crazy to think that that was over a decade and then 7 years ago. The standard of storytelling there just jumps out as being instantly superior, going back to them now. Especially the opening of MGS4. Sets the tone for the game so fucking well.

Big Boss himself mentions Medic Snake was their best man. It's thin rationalization and it's barely mentioned, but it's there.

Curious by the way - which tapes should i be absorbing to hear about this? Or is it just a minor mention in a cutscene from GZ or something?

Either way - Best/most trusted/most deadly Lt. on MB? Better assign him to the Medic team!!! No wonder MB fell to shit. True Blue BB is a terrible base manager.

edit: Imagine the mind fuck that Miller's entire life turns into after all this goes down. Maimed, tortured, friends turned enemies, enemies turned friends and every 10th person you meet looks like the guy who set your life on the most insanely violent path it could have possibly gone down. You can't throw a rock in Kaz's life without hitting a godamned mullet.

He probably had A++ stats in all categories, just like Big Boss. Venom was likely backup in case the mission went south or something.

Wouldn't you listen to this man? He probably knows all about survival.

I still maintain that there was no good reason for Big Boss to be there anymore once he woke up. Deuce ASAP and let the decoy take the heat as intended.

He hung around to ogle the nurse

I think it's weird that his entire plan hinged on Venom waking up in a few days.

Was Big Boss just going to hang out for years until he rethought this plan? I feel like some sort of stupid "We woke him from his coma with this injection" would have worked better.

Isn't that what they did? Unless I misunderstood the BB and Ocelot tape.

I justify it by telling myself that Big Boss wasn't on the top of his game either yet and stayed to recover fully. He didn't know an attack was imminent.

So really, Zero had the dumbest plan ever because the real Big Boss was still in the hospital when Cypher showed up.

Then, the fake big boss proceeded to be completely successful and needed absolutely no reason to stand in for the real one.

And then, in order to lay low, Big Boss had his name legally changed to Big Boss on his passport, meaning his entire cover was blown every time he showed it to someone.

Well he had the wraps on for the sole purpose of hiding his face correct? Is there info in the tapes that says he was actually staying there for medical reasons? entirely possible that they got some limited wind of the shitstorm about to go down and were like "Our patsy is sitting in the middle of the Death Wing at NewFace Medical. We better get there and point this gun in the right direction before our extremely complicated plan goes to hell."

Real, summoned by mantis, who was channeling Venom's rage at the time.

....... because the horn he's sporting at the time?

Hmm. At least the Mantis stuff is kind of consistent. Dude is like the one true blue staple through almost the whole series. And a powerhouse at that. Poor kid.

I think the way Boss handled Quiet was very much like Big Boss. Using CQC would blow his cover and BB is a goofy guy, I don't think throwing bedpans and medical equipment is beyond him. This is the guy who thought this was a good disguise

th

Quiet also likely took him by surprise.

BB's characterization as Ishmael is really just perfect. He's super chatty, witty ("You're talking to yourself"), and has his awesome moments (jumping off the stairwell). He felt like Boss to me, in contrast to Venom who, aside from being a leader who cares about his subordinates, isn't really like Big Boss at all.

The loss of Quiet is really bugging me. The whole phantom pain thing gets a whole new meaning from a gameplay perspective. First Kojima gives us this awesome, slightly OP buddy, she even gets a Sniper Wolf outfit, but if you use her too much and max her out she gets taken away from you if you want to finish her story. I feel the pain everytime I want to do side ops in post-game. :(

Starting the game over and not doing her ending quest would be an option, but then I don't want to build the whole Mother Base up from scratch again...

No, the passport name is the name you picked in the very beginning of the game.

I couldn't take Big Boss as Ishmael seriously mainly because his butt was out in the open. Almost every camera angle in that section positions you right behind him. It was futile to ignore.

Should've been Ocelot himself in there instead of the guy they engineered the whole plan to protect in the first place.

I will never be convinced that this wasn't dumb.

Well, a person like Big Boss is the most likely person to pull it off. They don't have any other soldiers to pick from considering MB is destroyed. Ocelot is no where near the level of BB's skills.

It's a risky plan, but it all makes sense in my mind

The only dumb thing to me is not carrying a gun when the enemy arrived. I guess they got caught off guard, but it's still super dumb.

It's a beginning of the mystery. What secrets does the buttcrack hold? Don't we know this buttcrack? Could this be Hayters buttcrack, even if it looks like Kiefers right now?

Kojima loves the man booty, MGS4 proves this

It's not like Kojima hasn't left clues that he isn't some not-so-secret-bisexual.

Also watching "Episode 51:" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B4JIHh5Jqk

I kinda like that ending. Though I don't like how Mantis is just able to hand-wave Eli's parasite/the English strain out of him to save him because LOL METAL GEAR SOLID 1 YA'LL. WHOOPS. WE DIDN'T THINK THIS THROUGH AMIRITE?

Wait, why does BB kill Vegetable Zero if BB and Zero and Ocelot were all in on the Phantom plan? I mean... they all have access to these tapes.
Mercy killing. Zero isn't actually living an amazing life at that moment and he wants him to accompany him to their comrades, I guess.

Btw. they are probably all burning in hell, so many of gods rules broken.
