Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016 for PS3/PS4

You can't just take it in isolation. Ignoring everything else and just relying on a company's PR is naive at best.

Always take a company's PR with a grain of salt. Regardless of industry. It's fine to get excited, but just remember things can change no matter what is said.

I was in doubt and seeing the reaction in here I was not alone. But when you have the company PR saying no people don't worry it's coming this year you'd think they'll be honest about the situation.

Give me hope for closer release dates.

You better hope they're scaling up their localization team because the difference in localization challenges between the two games seems to be staggering.

And then we better hope the engine is incredibly flexible for localization or else all those seemingly pre-baked images of Japanese characters on the screen will be a challenge to localize.

I think Persona Q would be a more recent / apt comparison, and that game even has less dialogue than a normal persona game.

Or perhaps Catherine considering they are the same engine:

Atlus!!!D:

Wonder when it coming overseas then heh. Whatever, this game is looking to be amazing so it be worth the wait I sure.

It's so easy to tout how others are idiots or delusional fanboys in hindsight. Sigh.
Not true for some of us. We have been saying that it would be delayed for months (cough, cough us on #TeamRuin), so there ain't any hindsight involved here from some of us.
The evidence for a delay was there. People willingly plugged their ears and chanted Hardin. So of course if you ignore the evidence people are going to jab you.
Precisely. I'm not here to hand out insults. But I certainly am going to say I was right, and people should have opened their eyes earlier. Especially when people who avatar bet on the side of #TeamRuin were so mocked.

Vindication was had that day.

Moral of the story is to wait for companies to have proof they can make a release before believing them. Which this game did not have in the slightest.

Well, there is a reason for this forum's motto of Believe.

PR can say all they want, if all the other indicators say otherwise I'm still going to be skeptical until they can show more than just a couple statements.

Pretty bummed about the delay, but the trailer was cool as hell so I'm okay with this.

2016 will be a great year.

Well, at least I'll now have more time to play one of the holiday's other games.

Seriously, this holiday is loaded enough. Fallout 4 is gonna eat my free time.

But I would have played P5 over Fallout 4.

Well, I'm not surprised at all. I'll be re-buying a PS4 for this game anyway, so I'm sorta actually okay with this, I'm sure I'll be able to get a second-hand PS4 for a pretty low price around the late 2016.

Well of course, you made a bet and won, congratulations. I'm eating the crow as promised.

But it's another thing to straight up insult and blame the losing team, which happened to be the majority in that bet.

Catherine is Gamebryo. Persona 5 is an engine developed in-house at Atlus. They're not the same engine.

They look incredibly similar, who can say that the in house engine was not developed off of Catherine's?

Bethesda feels fit to tell me their game engine is a brand new in-house engine every time they make a new game, but most of us can clearly see it's just gamebryo.

I'll reserve my doubts, but thanks for the enlightening info.

Despite the fantastic trailer, this delay hurts, a lot.

What is this?

Fuck's sake. Now I just find myself wishing pub's would STFU about release dates until dev's are toward end of development. Quit getting our hopes up only to later casually crush them.

For me, this is the worst delay of them all. I can't remember when I felt this pissed off about a game getting delayed. Even HG going schtum over NMS release wasn't this annoying.

...Because they said they ditched Gamebryo themselves all the way back in August 2011? They're not going to take a 3rd party engine, modify it, and then claim it for their own.

I think this is the largest amount of crows I've ever eaten for a video game.

And it's not even out yet.

Lol, this basically. I've never eaten so much crow before.

The silver lining is that they did not make us wait through a 3 day countdown to learn that it was delayed. I think that probably would have been the worst of all outcomes.

Wouldnt be shocked if P5 is still building off the Catherine tech.

Gamebryo shut down a few years ago so I dont know how that effects things like what they call the engine if they continue to use that.

This is not using Catherine engine.

Like I said, I don't feel like I'm here to insult anyone. In fact I just woke up like fifteen minutes ago, so I've missed most of the hubbub. But personally, I do think there's some truth to the idea that those on the other team were perhaps too much of fanboys or not thinking about the industry.

It always seemed obvious to me that a delay was imminent. ¯|_(ツ)_|¯

The Fallout 4 reveal was one of my favorite for that very reason. Such a great way to reveal the game. Let alone give a release date!

"It's coming out this year trust us"

*summer 2016*

What?

Like, that's a pretty hefty delay for something that was so adamantly defended as coming this year.

Agreed. It's definitely weird. I feel bad for the people developing this. It can't be fun working on a game this long.

Frankly I don't know if any other developer would get the kind of blind faith that Atlus got on this 2015 thing. People weren't really looking at this rationally.

Yeah I knew it. It's silly to think this game with 0 coverage and 2 trailers would have released by the end of the year.

Alright with me, summer are always light and I have good memories of playing through Atlus games in August (Catherine, P4A).

Besides, I was getting worried this would get released close to Xenoblade X :|

It's not even that there's a delay, those happen, but they announced the game two years ago with the expectation of a Winter 2014 release, then after that passed they swore up and down it was coming within 2015, and now we have another year long delay.

If you aren't within six months of release, don't even announce the game's existence.

Not you, but there was some very rude comments back in the thread.

It was still good enough reasoning for 2015 that 82% bet on it. If the evidence for delay was that solid as people are saying now, it wouldn't probably be the case.

Exactly. It was because of Atlus. Trust they don't deserve after this mind you. Which is why making a "fanboy" comment isn't completely out of line. With any other developer, the majority of people would have been predicting the delay for months. But with this game, we had people trying to analyze and defend Persona's "unique" marketing strategies, when really it was pretty obvious there wasn't anything unique going on besides an impending delay.

Any I agree with Dragonslayer's comment. I think some of that 82% came from faith in Atlus and fandom of them as developers/publishers. That was really the only "solid" evidence on the other side.

Abolutely. It is indeed Stockholm syndrome, especially when it comes to the flip flopping on European release dates. Why does Atlus get the load off, yet somebody like EA, Ubisoft, and others get slagged on by page 5?
