Freaking hell. I hope someone takes the Atlus PR people who have repeatedly said "2015!" as recently as a few weeks ago to task. Seriously, wtf? It's rude to just LIE to people. Had they played dumb they still would have looked bad but, really, anything is better than a straight-up lie.
This game has apparently suffered immensely from being in cross-gen hell. In hindsight they should have thrown out a PS3 version and later a PS4 overhaul. Their special event at TGS is going to be super awkward now. Weren't there Xbox versions of this game at one point, too? Not that dropping those means much.

1. The delay was announced at the very start of the TGS special event stream 8 hours ago. This wasn't a leak or something; this announcement was specifically planned by Atlus to be announced at the start of their Persona TGS stream, which is produced by Atlus.
2. No, there was never, ever an Xbox version of Persona 5.
I can fully see that happening

Not unexpected, but still pretty lame that they kept repeatedly, specifically promising 2015 when they must have known it wasn't true.

Multiple platform development is inherently more complicated than just focusing on one platform. Whether or not that's the cause of the delay remains to be seen, but it would not be surprising if it's due to development difficulty on particular version - whether it's trying to scale things back to work properly on the PS3 from the PS4 builds or issues with trying to do more on the PS4 build, who knows.

I expected a delay into early 2016 at least slightly, but Summer 2016 is not even close to Atlus' claims of 2015. Not cool. Not cool at all.

Well, either the P5 information was a significant chunk of what we're getting, especially in coordination with the new delay, and the rumored spin-off/remaster is the draw of the final event....
Or we come 'back' to P5 for some more information.
Feeling more like it's the former, at this point.
Admittedly, that made for a weird byline of the delay release, and it'd be hilarious, but I dunno if I can see Atlus going for that level of trolling.
Granted, that, above anything else, would make for a huge explosion of news.

News of the delay itself has pretty much eclipsed the trailer it was attached to. I'm not sure why they revealed the delay in this fashion to be honest.

There are more than twice as many replies in this thread compared to the trailer thread, not difficult to imagine why someone would see this thread but not the trailer one.
Yeah, I can't imagine them doing anything to make up for the delay announcement at the start.

That's the only thing I can think of now. In the past I would have said they were beyond a "lol, just kidding on the date! 2015!" twist, but with the official Twitter account posting this it can be considered 100% legit.
I've had my share. I was super pumped for Arena, but couldn't care less about the game when it was released in Europe 1 1/2 years later or so, when the game was already dead again. I still bought it for like 5 in a trash bin sale. Have it still unopened. lol

Either they were lying the the whole time or just repeating what they don't know in confident which is the equvilant of a random poster here in GAF saying (it's coming this year beileve me).. in both cases it's Atlus US fault.

Yeah... they make me lost all interest in the streams or TGS booth... so good for me not wasting my time in a game I'll have later next year.
yeah... and now with a june-july-august release in japan... you can expect a winter 2016 US release and a first or second quarter 2017 EU release...

Let it be known I was wrong. I believed in Atlus, and their statement was indeed false.
That said... I don't really care. Game looks cool, I've got an infinite number of other things to do in the mean time, and I'm glad they're pouring extra time into it so it's as good as it deserves to be.
I am curious though, just for novelty's sake, why PR insisted so hard on 2015 release. Was there a miscommunication? Was someone in the company lying?

I saw this coming whwn they were promoting the spinoff games more than the next iteration in the mainline series
Wouldn't be surprised. All in all, it's a bit of a marketing and messaging mess covered up by an excellent looking game.
