Holy shit I didn't even notice the "phantom" connection when I made the analogy. And yes, clones, too. Wow it's uncanny.

Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith

You feel it too, don't you?

I can't...

Modern Kojima is Episode saga George Lucas

What if that BB is Venom after discovering he's Medic, and just not having the fortitude to stay the course like the real thing. Losing Quiet must've been a big blow.

Or parasites.

Well, the BB that says the crazy warmongering shit is in MG2 aka the real Big Boss.

Venom/Medic Big Boss dies in MG1.

lol

Maybe some people move on faster than others, but yesterday the general mood was definitely still at Anger. Lol. Now with MGO coming and TGS in full swing, I expect quite a bit of Bargaining. Depression will probably set in as more departures from Konami are announced over the next few months. Acceptance might take... a long time.

What's interesting to me is that the gaming media is still going full tilt with the accolades. The game of the year discussion will be an interesting one.

What if Code Talker is Chico... just aged rapidly because of
PARASITES
!??

This would explain why i hate Code Talker this much.

The Phantom Pain

The Phantom Menace

...

...

...

Holy shit, it all makes sense now

Venom
Ocelots personality transplant
Skullface
Mute Kiefer
Parasites
Quiet with a bra to breathe
Salalalthranparus
Code Talkers dead duck delivery

Konami execs see all this in January

like I said before, none of this works as long as MG2 exists as it is, the Big Boss in that game was an old crusty bloodthirsty bastard who traumatized Solid Snake into a life of drinking himself into a stupor in Alaska.

Soldiers in real life suffer from PTSD and become alcoholics without some of them ever being engaged in combat, but rather simply from being in a wartorn environment where you are constantly looking behind your shoulder.

Snake was mislead by his commanding officer (or at least communications contact) and underwent a solo mission. That alone would be stressful enough for a lifetime

was doing a side ops and when I extracted the prisoner, instead of letting me play, game faded to black and prompted me to return to MB. There, Miller told me a kid died because pipes fell and Eli waits for me and walk in a corner.

That's it ? I should pursue him / find him ? or nothing ?

I did that, and he just disappears IIRC. It's more to allude that Eli was responsible for the death.

You'll be prompted to do a yellow (important) side op with him eventually. Also just keep doing missions.

So long as general acceptance occurs too late for this mess to win our GOTY I'll be fine with it. I want the GAF record to state forevermore that MGS4 was a two-time GOTY and MGS "Vee" won nada. Save us, Bloodborne.

What I'm wondering though is when the actual mainstream media outlets are going to write articles questioning the game in order to reflect fan feedback (and drive clicks, of course). I feel like the backlash has been so strong among fans that it has to hit the media sometime. If I had to guess, I would say it will be the exact moment Konami's advertising budget for the game runs out.

You could say that Chico will always be on our minds and in our hearts

Because his teeth are lodged in Medic Boss' skull and his heart after the explosion

I thought that was
Paz's sinew and bone. Since the bomb was inside her, and well, the partial cause for the hallucination. Although I guess it could be both.

no just keep doing Side Ops

The resurgence of starwars this year.

The Phantom "Pain" of what those movies did to that franchise.

This is a meta-commentary on sequelizations of a beloved franchise and how change and bad writing can ruin its legacy.

LOL, I was thinking about this the other day. The original trilogy (MGS1-3) is amazing, and the new trilogy (MGS4, PW, and MGSV) is pure shit (story-wise)

Seeing all the disappointed people with MGSV makes me glad I already abandoned any hope after MGS4. In my mind, the saga ended with MGS2 (with MGS3 being a nice bonus prequel) MGS4 and everything that came after it is just really bad fanfiction (I still play cause I love the gameplay)

So yeah, as shitty as it is, I can't really feel angry about the story in MGSV, as I was already expecting it to be shit. The lack of bosses though, that's definetly disappointing. And losing Quiet forever after that mission is the dumbest shit ever. Bring her back!!!

Haven't touched the game in over a week. First MGS game that i simply gave up on. Nothing about V clicks with me. I guess I got my monies worth out of it, but it's still one of the biggest disappointments for me this generation (there with Killzone, Unity and Destiny).

I'm finally done

The ending was... well... I didn't HATE it, it's a good old Kojima swerve, but yeah I get why you guys are mad it's clearly unfinished

The end scene shows Venom Snake realizing/learning who he is, and that the whole game was to draw attention to the legend of Big Boss while the original creates a real Outer Heaven military nation. Big Boss gives Venom the tape for Intrude N313.

According to the Wiki, their roles seem to switch. Venom is suddenly in charge of Outer Heaven and Big Boss is sending in Snake to infiltrate it. Why isn't it Venom sending Snake into Big Boss's Outer Heaven?

Also, considering the final post-credits timeline mentions Eli's "Kingdom of Flies" island - as if we're supposed to know what that means. Here's to hoping we get an jungle island expansion as Mission 51 DLC, because I was really hoping for more jungle gameplay than that one measly little strip of trees in Africa.

If GZ hadn't been so good I would have been sceptical too, but he sucked me back in. "It's just a demo, that's why the story is shit and relies so heavily on Peace Walker. The gameplay's the important bit and they've nailed it. Any kind of decent narrative and this will be game of the year. And it's Big Boss's fall into evil, how could he fuck it up?"

Oh, the naiveté...

I just played Mission 43. What the hell is this game.

A narrative catastrophy.

Now get the hell out of here until you actually finish the game.

I saw that for the first time in the timeline and I was like "am I supposed to know what this means? I don't remember Liquid doing any of that".

..which is probably why they slapped that cutscene on a bluray in the collector's edition. Such a collector's item, lol.

Honestly, I stopped caring about spoilers by the end of Chapter 1, so whatever. I actually felt like that was a pretty moving sequence of events. Why is the game still freaking going. Roll the credits. Sheesh.

Solid was a Green Beret and fought in the Gulf War before Outer Heaven and came out fine, it was specifically(he says so himself) Big Boss that traumatized him.

BB admitting to being an bloodthirsty bastard who wants to create a worldwide constant cycle of war so he can keep fighting, is the important part.

BB was trying to eliminate FOXHOUND members , or was trying to take ou Venom Snake who went rogue? Who knows because Kojima: fuck you.

Ah okay. But does Solid Snake ever himself mention that trauma in the games? I can't recall right now.

Oh yeah, it sucks that there is barely any forest or jungle environment in the game except for like the first bit when you land in Africa and near Code Talker's mansion.

The woodland camo is completely useless.

Every mission is so dense. Every single mission has so many things going on. And Skullface is the key to all of it because MGS has never had a funnier character. Sheev Boss is the best Boss in the series.

Dense.

Yeah no, BB is a psychotic warmonger in MG1/2 that employs child soldiers in conflicts and fosters new soldiers from the children that survived and lost their parents etc. He literally says that war and conflict is the only thing that keeps him going lol

He raises the war orphans to become soldiers but it's never stated that he employs child soldiers, we don't see anything like that in Metal Gear 2.
