General help - is there a decent place to boost resources, specifically fuel, but anything really?

One good way is to constant run combat deployments on any enemy item deployment that has any mineral resource as a reward, it should also net you some fuel. Also there's a consistent 9000 or so unrefined fuel in the north corner of the airport.

Yo, this game needs a theater mode real bad

Ocelot should have had a way more active story arc. I wanted to see more of him assisting Venom. There could have been a few story missions in Africa where he could have helped.

Hey, Shallowshaska is a deep character ya know!

I just don't understand. They did the impossible to me! They made Ocelot boring.

They made this character!...

boring! How!? Ocelot is basically a character who could be fucking anything at this point!

He could be revealed to be a cyborg, and I could probably roll with it!

I guess I'm insane. I just beat the whole game around 4pm today and I actually really enjoyed the end. I've tried reading through the thread to figure out why there's the disconnect between me and everyone else, and the only thing I can figure is that I went in blind with almost no build up. With no "this is the chapter that shows how BB went crazy" hype it just becomes a fun Metal Gear game.

Is there a reddit post with a list of main objections to the game or something similar? I'd love to read it to try and understand why everyone is so upset without having to dig through two GAF threads worth of posts.

Loved the game and really enjoyed the ending myself. I get the criticisms and expectations of how much more it could have been, but still GOTY so far for me. I think the medic (you) twist is all kinds of awesome. The game was one hell of an experience.

Ocelot is basically the janitor of Mother Base.

"Ocelot, my tv reception is kinda bad in my room, could you take a look at it?"
"Ocelot, the toilet on Deck 3 is clogged again, I thought you fixed the plumbing?"
"Ocelot, what can you tell me about Russian gunships?"

Asking Ocelot about Russian gunships or snipers is probably a running joke on Mother Base at this point.

Ocelot's angel-on-the-shoulder role would have been better fulfilled by anyone else

Preferably a grown up Chico who survived

Dammit, Ocelot. Why did you do nothing. Why did you shoot nothing.

He was cool in the intro at least

Interesting tidbit from an Ending analysis I found:

After allowing the ending to sit with me for a few days, I’ve realized that perhaps another way to look at things is to see it as a monumental indication of Big Boss’s descent into villainy. This twist basically means Big Boss has used one of his most trusted men as a pawn to further his own self-interests – rather hypocritical of him, considering that he left the CIA precisely because he wanted to create a nation where soldiers would no longer be used and manipulated by their higher-ups. He strips the medic of his identity, and forces him to carry on his legacy in the eyes of the public.

It’s very ironic stuff. The CIA used Big Boss as a pawn in their scheme to get their hands on the Philosophers’ Legacy back in Snake Eater, and they patted him on the back for it and rewarded him. Here, Big Boss uses the player as a pawn in his scheme to build his own Outer Heaven without us, and he pats us on the back for it, telling us we’re doing a good job. Big Boss essentially becomes the monster he used to hate.

...

If that explanation doesn’t satisfy you, perhaps we can view the ending as a final ‘thank you’ from director Hideo Kojima to fans of the series as well. In the final cassette tape, Big Boss tells Venom, and us, that we, too, are Big Boss. We are also part of the legend that he’s created, and it all comes back to that iconic line from Metal Gear Solid back on the PS1: “The man is no match for the legend.” In a meta sort of sense, we (Venom) are seen as Big Boss’s right-hand man because we’ve been following and playing all the previous games in the series. We know Big Boss’s story better than anyone else; we know his moves. Given that, who better to take on the role of Big Boss than us, the players who have been following his story every step of the way?

iirc there is a conversation or tape where Ocelot and Venom discuss the way legends/myths get misconstrued and often become something bigger than themselves.Anyone remember where or which one it is?

Edit: and yeah, I have no idea how ANYONE was surprised by the twist. The Ahab/Ishmael sequence at the start is an obvious hint that something is going on, but I knew what the deal was the moment Venom meets the A.I. pod.
Both its reaction and his lack of reaction cemented the fact that he was not the real BB in my head. BB would have freaked out no matter how much he has tried to get over the events of PW.

Even after those instances I still kind of didn't see it coming. Kind of went to the back of my minds after all those hours of playing and all the side stories wrapping up.

Theres other foreshadowing in there:
The 'we checked the genetic code and Eli is not your son'
watching this first hour foreshadowing video

Haha, now I imagine him in clasic 50s housewife dress washing ans cleaning for the boys, while Kaz cooks Hamburgers and Code Talker watches people masturbate.

Apropos Code Talker, ya think the parasites get him MTV and some porn channels?

I just finished finished mission 46. But there seems to be a cutscene/mission that I'm missing. The one with Paz. Should I keep doing more side ops to unlock it. I still have main missions 47-50 to do, but those are just extreme repeats of previous missions.

Go explore the medical platform of Mother Base, she's been there since the beginning of the game.

Have you been to the sickbay on the Medical Platform?

Speaking of custom logos, if you see this, it's me

I have basically nothing, so if you rob me you're robbing a poor man

How does that make you feel

Reading that someone had Godzilla sounds reminded me how cool a Sally fight on the full acale of an MGSV open world would've been. Imagin this giant thing stomping everywhere, destroying camps of russians and you on your horse hunting it Shadow of the Colossus style, with the possibility to just shoot it, or climb it, where it can't really hit you and put C4 on it's parts.

1st time through the game I thought for sure that Emmerich was building that Metal Gear for you because at some point you were going to have a Metal Gear battle (like in 4) after Eli steals the original. Was thinking, "oh shit, this is badass, chapter 2 is gonna be building up your own Metal Gear, how much fucking cooler can this game get!" .... needless to say, it didn't happen. The game is less cool because of it.

Ok I have just started season 2 and am very curious

Looking at guides there are about a handful of new missions left: 32,38,41,43,45,46

It looks like 41 triggers events where quiet leaves and 45 is the mission where quiet is gone so I never plan to do it. But can I do the rest? Ie do I have to do 45 to do 46? Can I still do 41 and then just never do 45?

With the extreme and substinance versions of missions, do I actually get anything new from doing them, I assume there are no new cutscenes or Audio so I am better off doing side missions to trigger the rest of the game?

You can get Mission 46 without doing 45. Of the repeat missions I think only 40 unlocks a new costume for Quiet. That's it.

To prevent Quiet from leaving you have to use a butterfly as your emblem.

Oh awesome, is there a concrete list of what's needed? I keep seeing contradictory information.

What else do I miss out on if I equip the butterfly emblem? I imagine certain side ops? Will unequipping it let me continue like normal or will it be awkward and skip curscenes?

Just do the yellow Missions and some side-ops and it should trigger.

If you equip the butterfly emblem you will miss out on one side-op and one main mission + ending. You can unequip it anytime to trigger them later on.
There's no detriment for using it, really.

any tips on mission 48? the one where you fight the sniper skulls on extreme and extract code talker?

im sure there is a trick that i am not aware of that makes this mission super easy.

the most damaging weapon i had against them was a sleep grenade that took about 75% of their health in 1 go. but then they get alerted to me and hard to do again

or should i just by pass them?

Just ended Mission 46.

FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

KOJIMAAAAA! wht u do?

Seriously though, I was not expecting that. That medic bit was insane. I was wondering what became of him and why Kojima hid his face. Thought he was just fucking about, but no, sir. Kojima fucks with your head only.

Loved it. Will read all the Wikipedia entries now and see Mission 51. The 12 unlocked tapes at the end didn't help at all but fucking my mind up even more with the revelations.

You can bypass them if you follow through the river and climb up cracks. You can actually easily No Trace the mission by doing that.

But you will need to kill and extract them for all the task objectives, but it's not required for S rank.
I just rolled up in a tank. Eventually your tank will explode, but not for a long time. Just take your time and blow em away. Take on the first two by themselves, then take on the next two. If you take on all 4 at once, you'll be very vulnerable. If you think your tank is about to explode. Jump out, equip a box, and get into cover and call in another tank.

Oh, that would've been amazing too. Cut Battle Gear really hurts.

A full scale open world bossfight is something I've been hankering for for a while now. I really hoped for something like that in the Arkham games with Deadshot, a sniper battle across the entire city, where you'd have to use decoys and all kinds of gadgets, and he'd leave remote controlled booby-trapped sniper rifles as bait. Then I hoped Quiet's bossfight would be something like that in MGSV, sniping from distances where you'd actually have to worry about bullet drop.

Infamous 2 has the only huge scale bossfight I can think of, where you fight a big Godzilla-ish monster across the entire first island of the game. It's not a huge map, and the monster is only building-sized, not truly gigantic, but it's still pretty cool.

I'm over 500,000 heroism and still can't scope S rank soldiers; I'm only getting A+ or A++. When can I start getting S and higher, or what side ops should I revisit to get them?

Soon you will become one of us!

Quiet's Russian name sounding like "tee hee" when said in English can't possibly on purpose...can it? Her teasing poses and those camera angles make me feel like it's another Kojima meta joke or something.

What bothered my a lot about the story and cutscenes was not really the amount and time of cutscens, but that all the trailers showed waaay too much. Nearly every cutscene in the game, even optional ones like the low morale scene, were already shown in parts in the trailers. The gamescom trailer even had the chapter 1 ending shot of Venom and Kaz standing over Skull Faces body, gun in hand, and one of the earlier ones had the Big Boss on a bike scene (with a shopped in horn).

The trailers themselves were all great, had fantastic music choices and were awesome for speculation purposes, but had I known beforehand that the ~half hour of trailer footage comprised nearly all the cutscenes I would have skipped them. Kojima needs an editor to tell him not to show everything months (and years) before release.

yea i noticed i could by pass them earlier but wanted to know if there was an easy way to kill them.

I guess for now i will just finish the mission then worry about killing them/completing tasks

It's the literal translation for the word quiet.

Glad to be here. Couldn't wait.

I love this series, and Kojima went out with another MGS2-level mindfuck.

I'm still processing and connecting all the dots.

GAAAAAAAH!

Couldn't wait?

You know , what you're actually happy so I'm gonna let you stay this way. I won't break your heart like mine was broken.

I at 750k and get S occasionally. Still looking for S+ though.

Oh, man, yeah. A large scale sniper battle would really be amazing.

if I see one more person say skullface is lone ranger and not zorro (fox) I'm gonna cry guys
Man, Bruce Wayne would be grim if he was inspired by Skullface instead.

All this thread will provide you is hate and anger. Probably disappointment. Happy reading! Cue ishida and newsbot.

I played this game non stop until I reached the chapter two rehashed missions and have completely lost all motivation to continue.

Fuck whoever made th decision to do this. They completely destroyed the pacing of the game let alone it being COMPLETELY. out of place. This is horseshit

Just caught up with the story cause I honestly don't want to redo all these old missions to find out what happens (I'm on mission 36).

In the end all the story did was make me appreciate Solid Snake a lot more.

Not much of a choice there. They should've really finished at chapter 1 and made more chapters in a season pass.

I can't help it, but this games sucks more every day I think about it.

This game definitely needed more than 1 year of more development time.

While true that's also really crazy to think. Ever since it was announced in 2012, we've been getting MGSV info throughout the years. By 2014 it started to feel wary and I was already thinking what's taking them so long. By this year my hype for the game was down (it went up in August). I can't imagine thinking of waiting till next year and getting another trailer at E3. Honestly I would of preferred them not have worked on any of the FOB missions or MGO and polish up the story and main missions.

You know what's weird? This promo picture.

First, you can barely tell it's even Ocelot. And why Ocelot? He is such a minor character in comparison to several others. And does Big Boss ever wear those goggles? The background kind of looks like the place at the beginning, so maybe that's all they had to show off when they made this, but the image is so random and really doesn't showcase anything relevant to the game outside of "there are sandstorms sometimes." Even the scarf is never used again after the first real mission unless you manually select it.
