I forgot how the female Skulls look almost as dumb as Quiet.

This was probably Kojima's attitude with it being his final MG game.

Watching CohhCarnage's stream, on mission 12 he overheated his minigun shooting Sahelanthropus' missiles, so when the mech jumped in the air in slow motion, it exploded on its own whilst he just watched. Was pretty cringe inducing.

My controller stopped working during that moment for some inexplicable reason (PC), and it destroyed the chopper.

Huh that's weird. The way it played out on the stream it looked disappointedly scripted. Maybe it's because he did damage to it during the missile firing part.
Slightly OT but Sahelanthropus is my favourite Metal Gear since Rex, looks great.

I was surprised how well the design worked. At first I thought it looked like someone took a transformer and plopped a rex head on it. But yeah, looks nice

Beat it last night. Honest question: was anyone surprised by the twist? Anyone with ears could hear right off the bat who the bandaged man was...I feel like I just wasted 30 hours of my life, but I deserve it because I saw it coming and kept playing for some dumb reason. That twist was as bad as, and in the same vein as, "it was all just a dream."

Sahelanthropus was crazy badass. I chuckled when I first saw it walking upright because it breaks Metal Gear tradition, but the design works perfectly.

Look at this beast, so awesome. Fuck Eli for taking it, that thing was MINE.

That's why it was more annoying to me I pretty much got it after a hour (every character saying remember and that doctor showing pictures for no reason) but I thought nah it can't be this obvious I expect a Kojima twist..no it was that obvious

I rather have you never left the coma and everything's what happened was Ocelot brainwashing you but he fails as you wake up at end still as Ahab

So going by the fact that Mission 51 was cut...what happens to Sahelanthropus? And doesn't Liquid think years later "hmmm, this Otacon guy sure does look like that dude who made a very similar version of Metal Gear when I was at Mother Base...except that version was practically a Gundam".

I'd been suspecting it ever since someone pointed out the medic's voice in Ground Zeroes, so I was just waiting for them to get it over with.

I can imagine Liquid telling Otcacon build me a new Metal Gear that walks. Then he sees Rex and he just like WTF this is shit

Even though it was cut, I still consider mission 51 canon. There's no other reason to release it on blu-ray with the collector's edition.

Venom traveled into the Kingdom of the Flies and with the help of Diamond Dogs support destroys Sahelanthropus in a battle against Eli and the Third Child. The broken parts of Sahelanthropus are taken away by Diamond Dogs, but it's not specified where to. Perhaps they pull a "Megatron" and dump it in the ocean, only for DARPA / AT Corp to dredge it out and use ad a blueprint for Rex.

That's my take anyway. It's open to interpretation.

As for the Eli - Huey thing - Huey doesn't really look like a spitting image of Otacon anymore in MGSV. In Peace Walker he was almost a clone of Otacon, but his face changed pretty dramatically for TPP.

So Rex is basically the Darpa bootleg of Sahilanthropus?

Actually did Eli and Huey ever meet?

Huey was locked away in R&D building Battle Gear and Eli was taken to kids area. I'm sure a tape mentioned Huey was giving messages to other kids and when this going down Eli was isolated away.

"Friday I'm in Love" is from 1992.

Damn it Kojima, I guess then it has to be cut content.

At this point, I'd pay $1.99 for a ton of fuel or other not hard to farm, but takes longer than it should resources.

At this point now that I've poured 125 hours into the game and the only limitation I have is resources I unashamedly used cheat engine to just give myself 200k of each resource because I was doing the math and it I wanted enough fuel to take my last 2 platforms from 3 to 4, I'd have to leave the game running for like 35 hours or manually farm processed fuel canisters for equally as long since it takes about 3-5 minutes between load times, the helicopter arriving at LZ scene and reaching where the fuel is for only 200 fuel.

And at that point it doesn't even matter how much I actually play the game but rather how much the game is running in the background and that's fucking awful design.

Where did we land with Mantis being a BB clone? He's called the "Third Son" and there was that one scene where he looked exactly like Eli (which could just be a mind-eff), but wouldn't he technically be the fourth son?

Didn't Otacon just work at Shadow Moses when Liquid happened to take it over? Like, Otacon was never working with or even saw Liquid... right?

Wasn't it mentioned that they only licensed some of the music for promotional use (and the soundtrack, presumably); and it couldn't be included ingame?

Also; speaking of which, I still can't believe we didn't get an arrangement of Mantis' hymn in the game at any point - even Twin Snakes used it, and it tossed out almost everything else from MGS1's soundtrack. I would have settled for a scene of Skull Face listening to a familiar piece of in-universe Russian classical music...

People overestimating Kojima again? no wai

They're sitting next to each other in the helicopter during mission 31. Big Boss says he's gonna need support and I guess Huey is brought in to give advice on Sahelanthropus' weaknesses [which never happens]. Eli snuck in the chopper because reasons.

The point of course to give Huey his absurd "REVENGEEEEEE" moment, because there is literally no reason to bring Huey.

Yeah Otacon works for AT Corp on a Metal Gear. Liquid is just the terrorist who takes over Shadow Moses, he didn't actually tell Otacon to build a Metal Gear.

When I said cut content I was being sarcastic haha :P Since that's been the go to reason for everyone it seems. Yeah tere were some strange omissions from the list of tracks, I was fully expecting to see the MGS2 theme since it's quite popular.

And I was at least hoping for the GZ music to make a comeback...but it didn't.

It still hilarious that Liquid basically hijacked Shadow Moses where a very similar looking Metal Gear made by the son is there. It's yet another bad "connection/coincidence". Rex is just a weaker version of Sahelanthropus (which is way overpowered for a MG made at this part in the timeline).

That was never coming back after the plagiarism thing came to light; even if no legal action was ever threatened. It wouldn't have been taken out of PO and SSBB; and then never showed up in the series again without reason.

Oh right I forgot about that fiasco, man it's a shame too because it's a great theme.

It's strange because the legacy collection trailers featured the song; from that I had assumed they cleared that problem up. Guess not :/

Skull face was fantastic. He also had a huge impact on the plot, even after his death which was super interesting. he just...wasn't actually in the game much.

Maybe they thought it'd be safe enough for updates of prior releases? Along with the HD collections, I don't think it wasn't changed for the 3DS port, either. But since it was explicitly excluded from 4 due to the controversy (at least according to Hibino) and every subsequent arrangement or rerelease of the MGS3 theme replaces the part using the MGS2 theme with either The World Only Needs One Big Boss or 4's Metal Gear Saga; it doesn't seem to look like they were ever comfortable bringing it back for new games.

Sahelanthropus wasn't discovered until the 21st century.

Obviously they decided to name their bipedal Metal Gear "man from the Sahara" for completely unrelated reasons. Either that, or Sahelanthropus was discovered in the 70s and covered up by the Patriots.

There's a tape where Huey says it's that.

Cipher covered up finding a fossil hominid for 20 years because... they wanted to have an advantage in research about human evolution. Which is weird, because the big deal about Toumai's discovery was that it was very close to the human-chimp divergence that morphological and genetic analyses predicted occurred roughly 7-8mya. That's big for plotting out exactly when the two diverged and what exactly the differences were at first, but it's not like a massive 20 year coverup thing.

Liquid in Rex in MGS1 should have been like "I'm going to kill you brooootherrrr, in this tin can, you should have seen that other Metal Gear I piloted when I was just a kid, it was crrrrrazy. I have mad skills, broooootherrr".

Yeah, I really enjoyed his (tragically limited) role in the game. The tape containing his interrogation of Code Talker with the bell was absolutely wonderful. It would've made one hell of a chilling cutscene if animated.
