Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Bison is part of said kings, it's the 4 bosses from SF2.

Yeah, I know there are Vega, Boxer and Claw but Sagat left. I was curious to see if anyone know if someone took over Sagat's position.

Sagat left as of Alpha 2. You could argue that Juri took Sagat's place in Super, but that's debatable since SIN gave Juri her new eye.

That could make a sense since the story implied that Juri is a double agent.

Juri isn't a double agent, she was basically just using SIN and Shadaloo.

Alpha 2 is before SF2 though? Sagat left before 4

Boxer left too IIRC

Rashid's spin move safe on block? Mika couldn't get a grab in afterwards, i wonder what the range is on her command grabs.

hope she's in the next beta...

According to Combofiend her grabs are slower than full-on grapplers like Gief, so I think we can assume startup is something like 4+ frames. And I didnt see any of this throws done as reversal, so not optimal punish.
In the end that doesn't say much about Rashid spin, other than it's not super negative on block.

So I was right the first time, sorta.

Yep. Same goes for Cammy & Birdie, they were both gone from Shadaloo by Alpha 3 (although Birdie didn't have a real role and he too was not a fan of the corrupt style of Shadaloo)

Sagat is still considered a king due to him being the subboss in SF2, but you could also attribute that to him being the final boss in SF1 and not because he was still a member of Shadaloo

Maybe Zangief joined Shadowlaw this time around, like in the hit film. That would explain why he's there from a story perspective.

I am kind of wondering if Zangief's appearance in Wreck-It Ralph will inspire Capcom to make him a villain in this game. Maybe one that heel face turns over the course of the story.

Mika's Giant Swing seems to have abnormally large range on it relative to other grabs we've seen in SFV.

So command grab motions have been simplified and some are comboable, but to balance them out they have more startup and less range. Is that right?

I'm not sure about the comboable part - I think only Mika's super works like this outside of crumples? - but basically that's the idea.

In some videos it seemed Mika could combo into her Super, was it ever confirmed? However it's the only instance where we saw something like that. Her 'grab' where she throws her opponent into a wall bounce is not a throw, it's a hit move.
In general I'd say command grabs range is somewhat similar to SF4, while normal throw range is far shorter.
About the slower startup part, Combofiend was talking about Rmika, it was not a general statement, we could still get full-on grapplers like Gief with 2f SPDs.

I too await The Return of the King.

Indeed. His character is the most dynamic of the SF cast, it would be really interesting to see what's happened to him.

Brofist to you both

Anyone else have kids? Do they play street fighter? My 6 year old likes picking the female characters and changing their outfits before playing. I let her play in training mode since she won't get beat. I have a feeling Karin is gonna be her new favorite

My guess is Bison and Vega are the only kings of shadaloo left. I doubt sagat and Balrog are the final 2. It's either Alex/Urien or geif/sim most likely.

Man, I am in love with the song that plays in R. Mika's trailer (particularly the little four-tone sting that plays after the "Street Fighter V" titlecard). I really hope that it's her character theme in the game proper, although that's not very likely considering it sounds nothing like her Alpha 3 theme and every SFV character theme revealed thus far have been remixes of the fighter's most well-known motif :/

The character trailers use generic music, but it still sounds really nice. I'd love to hear all of them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqcRonq9UCs <-Nash's trailer theme is really hype)

all these persona avatars have me cracking up at the thought of alex and urien avatars with dunce hats or whatever. let's absolutely not do that, though.

Yo that Boss had the sickest Final Boss stage/theme ever..... Seths lab was a POS.

It would be EPIC in SF5 , with the Shadoloo logo being formed by the clouds when lightning hits it will be visible.

Still my favorite fighting game boss stage. And he was easy, you just had to make him use his Super, then fight normally. Was actually pretty fair.

'Head of Kanzuki Zaibatsu'

Not very knowledgeable about Japanese culture, but is a Zaibatsu her actual family or is it a business or someting smililar?
A Zaibatsu is basically the Japanese term for family-controlled industrial and financial business conglomerates in the Empire of Japan, whose influence and size allowed control over significant parts of the Japanese economy from the Meiji period until the end of World War II. Tekken also has this with the Mishima Zaibatsu, the control of which has changed hands over the course of the franchise (from Heihachi to Kazuya to Jin to whoever has it in Tekken 7). If I recall, control over a Zaibatsu doesn't change hands unless extreme circumstances cause it (which is hella common in the Tekken universe, given the dysfunctional Mishima/Kazama family). This means that, more likely than not, Karin's parents died since the events of Alpha 3. The possibility is further emphasized when Karin said that she was the head of the family as a whole in one of her win quotes.

Ah, I see. Thanks Neoxon.

So Karin is basically the head of the family company now?

EDIT: Just saw your edit and it answered my question. Thanks again.

That still begs the question of how Karin's parents died. Their deaths could have been from either sickness, old age, or murder at the hands of either Shadaloo or the Illuminati. If murder was what happened (which I'm starting to think is the case), then we may have Karin's tie to the potential Shadaloo vs. Illuminati plot of the story.

I'm quite interested to see where her storyline goes.

It's good to see some of the characters we haven't seen in a while go through major changes in story and appearance. 4 was quite disappointing in this regard, seeing as hardly anyone changed or advanced in their story.

I'm quite looking forward to the story for this one. I hope they knock it out of the park this time, especially after 4's.

Agreed, though Karin seems to be handling the grief pretty well if her parents were indeed murdered. Maybe it happened during SFII or IV.

That would be good. I hated how a good chunk of SF4's roster had nothing to do with the main story and were just there for the sake of being there. I want as less of that as possible.

This is why I hope that Siliconera is right. If the Illuminati did it (assuming that Karin's parents were killed, leading to Karin's untimely ascension to power), then Urien's gonna have hell to pay. Either way, if said parents were killed, I'm pretty sure either Bison, Vega, or Urien were the ones who did it. Gill doesn't seem like the type to get his hands dirty unless he has to.

Agreed. If Karin's parents were killed, whoever did it has hell to pay.

Although having Alex miss out on the starting roster would be very disappointing, I'd be devastated if Urien wasn't part of the first 16. Dude has to make it!

Story wise wtf is Karin going to do to Urien? He'd crush her.
Read the rest of our conversation. Usually someone as young as Karin doesn't ascent to power over the family Zaibatsu unless unforeseen circumstances happened with her parents. If said parents were indeed murdered by the Illuminati (for whatever reason), then that could be Karin's tie to Urien. Of course, the deaths of a wealthy married couple sounds like something that Bison would do.

Right he killed them, what's this "hell to pay". He'd smash her into the ground, she's low tier story wise.
