Why is there normal snake mullet hair here and not the god awful pony tail?
 
I asked someone if the badass leather jacket and motorcycle made it into the game. They said hardly. But then, I see someone post a gameplay pick wit snake wearing that badass jacket. How does one unlock such?

You unlock it automatically at some point. Keep playing and don't come back to this thread until you've finished the story unless you want to get spoiled.

Sahelanthropus is one of the most stupid things about this game in terms of canon. I'll hypnotize myself into thinking it doesn't exist.

I feel like the game could have just picked up with MSF after 9 years of service, and been about MSF becoming more ruthless and doing really unethical stuff and at the end of the game being officially branded as outer heaven and having miller leave because he no longer agrees with what they've become.

The new mother base could have just been a new FOB that Big Boss went with miller to set up in the most conflict ridden region as to get more money.

One consequence of that final twist is that, because Venom Snake is literally a player surrogate, any calling out of Venom would be a direct attack on the player. Kojima wasn't interested in that.

The true ending is worth doing that whole prologue thing again, it fits the Metal Gear Solid themes and makes it all ring harmonious even if plotwise it's kinda messy. I mean, how the heck did FOXHOUND got setup with big boss as its leader?! That is indeed messy, but whatever

I remember back when it was revealed that the organization in this game was going to be referred to as Diamond Dogs.

I sighed at the knowledge that this meant Big Boss had at least two more organizations up his butt that he'd have to jump between, but I guess Kojima's hard-on for Bowie is what drives the plot development here.
 
Guys, can someone replace the model of the dude who Quiet stabs in the mouth with Kojima?

It's the only thing that'll quell my phantom pain.

I really enjoyed the discussion. The ending is sound but the execution is sloppy.

By robbing his right-hand man of his identity and using him as a pawn to further his own means, Big Boss completes his turn to villainy.

It is the ultimate irony following the events of Snake Eater.

The twist of placing the player in that role, allowing you to become part of the legend yourself, is also a neat idea and the ultimate thank you to fans.

We are part of the lore now - we have become Snake.

Viewed through that context the character's lack of dialogue begins to make more sense.



However, it was marketed as the game that would depict the fall of Big Boss and in that sense it feels incredibly unsatisfying.

The story falls flat throughout with supporting characters thrown to the dogs.

The ending, which links into the original Metal Gear in an interesting way, works nicely - it's the rest of it that drags it down.

In my mind, Kojima decided years ago Big Boss would no longer be the man we met in the original games - he just didn't tell the rest of us and exploited our expectations.
 
The twist itself isn't bad. I'd even argue that Kojima not filling in all the blanks isn't bad either. It's just that it's not really a conclusion to the story in the game, and that the game itself just didn't have many character arcs or stories.

What does Venom learning that he's not Big Boss mean to his character? What does building diamond dogs mean in that universe? What was the reason we did anything? The game ended with a flashback, for all intents and purposes. Sure, there's the scene with Venom listening to the tape but that's a really dumb and pointless scene. It adds nothing.

There's barely any arcs here. Even the ones that are there, like say Quiet and Huey, are poorly executed.

None of that is given any weight and that's my problem. People shrugging it off and saying "oh, it's a great twist so it doesn't matter that it doesn't connect to the other games" are entirely missing the point.
 
We're at the point of essentially writing our own plot and ending using the barebones material given by Kojima.

Yes, it's possible to functionally create fan fiction that makes MGSV some meaningful entry. That doesn't have any actual bearing on the quality (and substantial lack thereof) of the base game.

I do agree.

The ending does not communicate a clear message.

When does Venom find out he isn't Big Boss? How does that affect him? Why is the passage of time (that happens in the final scene) not clearly shown? Why does he punch the mirror, anger? What does the operation intrude tape actually say?

If we had seen a older version of Venom looking into the mirror, listening to the tape and realising he will have to sacrifice his life to protect Big Boss' secret before reloading his gun and confronting Snake (not even a fight, just in that scene) - we could all go home happy.

If anyone knows any of the above feel free to correct me/let me know.

Solid Snake, the One True Hero of the series, rocked the mullet better than Venom rocks that shitty ponytail, even in his old age. Even Big Boss recognizes how terrible Venom's ponytail is by sticking with the mullet. Ergo, mullet wins.

PC mods on nexus allow you to swap in Quiet for snake. She may be gone, but I can play as her lol. Then mod her back in as a buddy. I'll have to do a super Quiet playthrough at some point.

It'll be so quiet, the enemy will never hear me coming.

Yeah, pretty sure you didn't finish it. Final mission is episode 46.

He was also the coolest as a character. He was kind of an abrasive dick and it worked.
 
While its totally cool to rewrite Paz into the game why not just just say Quiet's long desert walk cured her and let her be a buddy again. I mean we are already throwing all sense out the window in chapter 2 so why try to even pretend at the point?
 
The only tangible negative to playing the game full on lethal is becoming a demon right? Horns, blood, but it doesn't affect how your buddies etc. interact with you?

It unlocks for development when you get the codename Big Boss key item which is given at the end of episode 46. You just have to develop it, I think for a really low sum of GMP and 0 minutes.

Here's another thing that sucks though, I hate the cop-out that Big Boss at the end isn't shaved, because Ishmael was. That and he hasn't aged at all!
