Chico had the most potential because it's always cool to see a child character grow up and become more capable.

Exactly, they could easily write that he survived and for the last 8~9 years been training and waiting for Snake to wake up to work for him again.

Having him being an minor support character that works as a soldier at MB or something would kinda make sense. Maybe he could be one of the MB soldiers that we had to kill in the quarantine base, that would easily make that part even more personal and harsh, instead of just offing random, basically faceless staff members that you pick up everyday.

Man, this shit writes itself. Kojima pls.

I'm almost 100% sure they had all that Paz shit just to give them a reason to model her half-naked and have the player being able to creep on her while she sleeps...

They don't need a reason though. MGS1 VR Missions had a photography mode: here is a room. Beat more missions to get closer to Naomi and look up her skirt.

Naomi and Mei Ling even do poses. One of the Naomi models is her sitting down specifically for taking panty shots.

If Kojipro wanted to do that for just fanservice they would have done it. The Paz stuff was just part of their attempt at storytelling :p

I said earlier how much potential Chico had, he more than anyone had reason to be completely consumed with revenge. How did Kojima drop the ball with a character that could've embodied the supposed theme of his game.

I'm not a PC kinda guy, but this game is literally fucking loathsome when it comes to depictions of female characters.

There's like , what, 2 female characters overall in the story, and they're both basically naked and are either docile and childlike or doesn't speak. Doesn't help that the camera is always angled at their chest or ass either.

Just awful and pathetic pandering...

I don't buy that I'm traumatized by not saving a traitor due to a second bomb in her vagina I had no way of knowing about.

Give me a break.

dunno if you know this but if they had found out the second bomb then the helicopter crash wouldn't had happened, medic feels guilty for everything because he didn't check her well enough

Considering Paz' entire gig in Peace Walker was to pull what Eva did, and the fact that she appeared in a sexy bikini for an entire segment in that game, she was hardly treated as a sex object by comparison. She's docile and childlike because that was her entire goal, which the hallucination assumed she'd still need to be chasing after.

Can't really say the same for Quiet's behaviors, but I saw no issue with how Paz was handled. And I am typically PC minded.

Let's not forget that had he not failed to find the second bomb, the explosion wouldn't have happened which killed Chico, Paz and the pilot, severely wounded BB, caused limbs to be lost, and knocked them into a coma for 9 years. There's a bit more to it than "Vagina Bomb".

I wonder how Miller reacted to Venom personally after finding out who he really was. He says Big Boss can go to hell, so he's obviously pissed about that, but he was already bros with Venom in MSF (look at the pictures of BB, Kaz and V together) so it's not like he would just write him off...

He says he'll "Make the phantom stronger" but maybe they also go their separate ways once he learns V wants to follow Boss?

Just because she was 'treated' worse in PW doesn't make things okay. Peacewalker at least had other great female support characters like Strangelove, Amanda and Cecile.

Here, we're stuck with only Miss "I wear bikini and show my bum for you in the heli becuz i breathe thru my skin" and Paz, the shoehorned, half-naked former jailbait honeypot/spy.

Overall, I'm just so pissed that pretty much all support characters in MGSV are either garbage, had their potential wasted or are non-existent.

I'm still failing to see the issue with her portrayal, sorry. Just appears to be making bones about nothing. Because there were other good characters, that excuses her prancing naked and being almost a Gravure Idol in Peace Walker?

Now that we can agree on. Everyone could have been handled better at the end of the day.

Word.

Also, vagina bombs

Female characters in this game are handled with such immaturity.

No, I did not say that. I said her treatment and portrayal was horrible in PW and it was still shitty in MGSV too. But at least Paz wasn't representative of all female characters in that game like in MGSV.

whats the issue with vagina bombs
if some dude got a bomb shoved up his ass everyone would just see it as the horrible act it was instead of some weird sexualization issue

Anyone else finding themselves occasionally going back here to check for.. signs of life? An easter egg, anything? Sometimes when making my way through Afghanistan I notice a silhouette in the distance on a rock and I freak out and grab my binoculars, only to reveal it's a bush.

Please come back Quiet, I need your help.

I do the same thing, I've even tried playing her song on speaker from my Walkman and other things, like smoking a bunch of phantom cigars and just waiting.... I need her back man... :(

This is why I started a new file.

Went in totally blind, media blackout, ad lost Quiet. I sure had an "experience" though.. .

I think I'm gonna do my own write up on how stories/characters could've have gone in my eyes like the NotTheGuyYouKill one later

Probably won't be as thorough

Yup. Kojima even fucked up Ocelot, that character is easily like my favorite character besides Solid Snake in the MGS saga. But here, his characterization is nothing like how he was in the other games, for no good reason at all.

As I've said before, he's like a completely different character, just another boring, homely asshole that just shits out exposition and hangs around at the base. No real importance to the story at all except that he collaborated with Zero a bit and helped Medic Boss into shape at the start. He should've been a major player in the story, working with BB on the field at times. We, the player, should also be skeptical about what his real long-term goal or intentions are, with the history of his double/triple spy antics.

Instead he's treated like a tutorial level narrator or something that every other shitty jabroni support character could've done.

Anyone else just get fucking angry watching trailers now? They feel like trailers for an entirely different game. They made the story seem so good and promising! And what did we get out of it?

On what planet is Cecile a great character?

Other than that, you're correct.

So basically like MGS2 and MGS4.

They are Kojima trailers man... he knows how to cut them and knows how to mislead.

At least in those games there were more than was shown in the trailers. In this there's less. Every major cutscene is represented in trailers, and there are still clips from the trailer that didn't make it into the game. It's more than just misleading trolljima.

It's a shame Konami is stopping AAA development because I'd love to see a MGS game made by someone other than Kojima.

Fair enough. I can concede that her portrayal wasn't the most optimal route they could have taken for her characterization, though far less of a problem than Quiet. I am glad that they let us take female soldiers out into the field, ones who are just as capable as Venom himself, have access to all of his kit, and so on.

Ocelot was my biggest disappointment too. I read someone theorizing that perhaps this was the "real" Ocelot, but to me, that's impossible. The Ocelot we know and love is a cocky, flamboyant dweeb who knows exactly how to ham it up in every scene. In many ways, Skull Face sort of stole his role for a few brief periods, but with less of the flair. Patric Zimmerman's performances in MGS1, 2 and 4 are some of my favorite in gaming. Josh Keaton's take on Young Ocelot in 3 nailed a lot of his personality as well. But I suppose they also had far better scripts to work with.

Love it or hate it, Ocelot is a showman first and foremost, and he had the stage presence of a plank of wood for almost the entirety of MGSV. The only time we got to really see even a glimpse of him was the torture sequences with Huey, which seemed to be the level of expertise we know he's capable of. He should have been less concerned about telling me to get down to crawl away from the enemy sniper and maybe watched a few more American movies to pull some machismo from.

I felt Skull Face's death way too brutal...

Felt very bad for him.

Absolutely the best beat in the excuse for a "story"

It was cathartic. Like i was de-limbing the shit show of a plot made man and letting it die off in anguish. Then Em comes along and solidifies his complete character assassination.

Curiously though... after letting the tweest and everything else sink in over the last day or two I've come to wonder about Vmedic. Like.. he's got this 'right hand man" status for BB. Is in his helicopter... likely was his personal Medic through all of MSF. Where is he actually from? What sold him on BBs plans for the world originally? What must it have been like to completely idolize and respect a man - have him use you in such a crazy (but also kind of flattering way "You're the only soldier that could pull off being me...") and then years later after actually living as this guy for so long and building up a thing that at this point you would call your own - not Big Boss's - see one of his sons coming at you. A younger, fresher, leaner version of the man you were made to resemble but could probably never live up to.

fuckin wild bro.

Still godamned ridiculous that Jehuty is throwing earthquake swords around like 20 years before Rex. Or that Ocelot is so bone dry in the personality dept. It's like... with enough time i can start to digest the Big Boss/Ahab twist... but then everything else i glossed over in the game gets a turn.

Edit: There should have been a side op that unlocked Ocelot as a buddy. Or a set of sideOp missions concerning some mother russia shit that he was all "Don't care what you say boss. I'm going with you on this one." Maybe your intel guys spot some of the old Ocelot Squad out in the wild and he insists on going with you to recruit or retire them. Woulda been awesome.

I really wish I had known the nuke would take 24 in-game hours to complete. I still have another 7 hours on it and I've pretty much wrung the game dry. I still have animals to collect and mission 45 but I was hoping to do that after making the nuke so the heroism bonus for completing all missions would help negate the demon snake stuff. Other than that I've done everything. I'm on PC so I've avoided doing FOB stuff but I might just do it after the last few weapons finish because I have pretty much zero use for resources and staff at that point.

The eccentric and crazy Ocelot we all know and love would definitely lighten up the game in a good way. Hearing your example about Ocelot busting Big Boss balls over the radio would be perfect, makes me really sad what a poser we got instead :(

Thanks for the heads up. I should probably get that started lol

Is there negative effects for building the nuke? I thought Miller said something like the choice is yours or something

You lose 50k Heroism points and gain 50k demon points, which instantly turns you into demon snake (covered in blood that doesn't wash off and your horn grows). The former is whatever because by the end game you're drowning in heroism points but the demon stuff is kinda annoying to remove.

still trying to go back to this game and feel no satisfaction while playing it what so ever, kojima really fucked me up on this game to be honest

You know.

It'd be cool if there was some sort of arcade on mother base, like they should done what Shenmue did and had classic Konami arcade games over there.

Go the extra mile and screw the realism and fill the game not only with arcade games but also with MSX games and have Metal Gear inside Metal Gear Solid V, it'd be a cool reason to go back to mother base, you could get more arcade machines as they game goes on and have mother base filled with Contra, Gradius and whatnot.

I'd be a nice nod to Pinguin Adventure, Kojima's very first game.

Remember in the Gamescom video where they were talking FOB invasions how you would have an advantage because you knew your Mother Base. Even if there was a good reason to explore every nook and cranny, aren't they all the same beyond maybe the number of platforms?
