The craziest thing about the Cobras now is the fact that, during their heyday in WW2, The Fury was just a dude with a flamethrower.

By the time they reunited for Snake Eater, he was a crazy, horribly burned dude with a flamethrower. And a shiny new jetpack.

People can change a lot in 10 years, especially at older ages. My dad has gone from looking like Snake did in his 40's to how big boss looks in his 60's over just 6 years. Going grey is no laughing matter!

Heh, wonder if there's a "Gray Fox" anywhere.

Most of Snake's staff consist of Mega Man X bosses.

I started playing Peace Walker again, and according to my old save, I last touched it two years ago. The similarities to MGSV, both in style and gameplay, are abundant. And Talkative Jaded Snake is better than Mostly Silent Player Avatar Snake. The direction, man.

I really wish keifer Sutherland had more lines. Probably one if the things that will bug me the most will be how much he was hyped by kojima and didnt even have much lines until the end.

Shame. What a waste.

Yeah. And from his (very good) portrayal of Ishmael early on, effectively being Snake Bauer, you were hoping for more ham moments for him to chew things up. Play to his strengths.

Remember when you fought a teenage girl in her underwear as a J Pop song blared in the background in Peace Walker?

I can think of maybe 30 things more insane than that in MGS V.

That's very problematic in light of the MGS4 epilogue. Big Boss is seething with hate when he wheels out Zero before Solid Snake. He talks of a bitter rivalry motivated by fear and envy. I would have liked to have seen that rivalry played out in either Peace Walker or MGSV.

I also preferred it when the supernatural elements of the series were subtly hinted at either through Vamp's healing via water or the possession of Ocelot being explained by an ability passed onto him from his father, The Sorrow. It was a mistake not to embrace that. I think negative fan reaction played a huge role in shaping some of the more suspect aspects of the series.

Hah. Mate, I've seen MGS4's ending once. Whole thing was total mince. I remember BB wheeling Zero out - but I have no memory of what BB said about him.

Which just made me realise - surely it's only Phantom Boss who knows that Zero was on BB's side? Only we have the tapes, including a tape where Zero visits BB while he's in his coma. So surely BB actually has no idea about any of this and still hates Zero based on the events of MGS3 - all the way up til MGS4.

The more I play, the less I like the game. This is one of those situations where the amount of content the game has is actively working against it as every limitation of the AI and flaw in the game systems is being exposed after 100 hours.[snip]

You feel it too, don't you?

... It sounds like you're playing the game too much. (I could be wrong.) You're making very valid criticisms, but they sound really exaggerated - possibly because you're playing so much? if anyone plays any game for 170 hours in a couple of weeks, they will start getting tired and only being able to see the cracks.

Ok but what about cutscenes?

I said that when I meant story scenes. Cutscenes Big Boss, gameplay player. It's schizophrenic. Edit: and this relates to the age-old 'GTA protagonist' syndrome of open world games. Kojima is the first creator I can think of to directly address this issue. Directly, I mean - others have definitely touched on it or explored other relevant, related subjects.

Unless you're psychic. Psychic is the only real magic yo.

Hah, yeah.

Snake - Volgin is alive through parasites, Quiet is alive through parasites, Code Talker is alive through parasites, you're mobile through physical therapy, Sahelanthropus is a walking nuclear weapon because of an element,

... Oh, but telepathy? Yeah, that's just telepathy.

This did strike me as bad at the time, in that tape.

BB would have to know about it to go along with Ocelot's plan to set up the Phantom. Along with all the other stuff like moving them to a hospital in Cyprus.

The whole plot point in the cut Episode 51 with Big Boss not able to see red and shooting Eli is interesting because that is already established in the existing game.

The first time you're prompted to treat a serious injury and reset your leg in the prologue you lose the ability to see red and all the blood splatters etc. turn white for a bit.

I believe this happens any time you get a serious injury in the game, but in my entire playthrough that only happened one time when I rolled off a cliff.

Yeah, it just looks absurd. Shinkawa's artwork shows how Big Boss should look during this time period, but they just pasted his GZ face into TPP.

He may have had a facelift while in Cyprus. Being in a coma for all that time must have upped his vanity.

MGS5 would be all about Vain Snake.

Isn't Venom Snake 60 in that broken mirror cutscene? Kinda weird

We don't know how old Venom Snake is. Big Boss probably is a white haired dude at this point. And even then, Big Boss was probably dying his hair in the 70s let alone the 80s. And Venom is definitely dying his hair based on the fact that he could have blonde, red or black hair before the surgery.

Man, we called this days ago, that the 'It's bad because it's supposed to be bad' would find it's way into the media. I can only laugh.

Yeah, I know that. You're right. I just want to finish it, you know? Finish it and move on.

And I feel like a better game would still have me entertained rather than burned out at 100 hours. Whether or not I'm burned out I'm not sure what the point of all those repetitive side ops or all that waiting is. I also feel like it's not my fault that due to extended play I'm seeing all the flaws - if the flaws weren't there to be seen I wouldn't see them.

I'd love to join in on the plot discussion but I'm afraid I found it so unengaging that speculation about it doesn't interest me at all. Never thought I'd say that about a Metal Gear game.

BB would have to know about it to go along with Ocelot's plan to set up the Phantom. Along with all the other stuff like moving them to a hospital in Cyprus.

... I don't think that's right.

BB doesn't know about the hospital in Cyprus or anything. He just wakes up 9 years after the helicopter crashes, Ocelot comes in and goes, 'We moved you to a hospital in Cyprus to keep you safe. Cipher is still after you. Also FYI we made a non-genetic clone of you, he's in that bed there."

In the tape where Ocelot speaks with Zero, only Ocelot knows about it. It's totally clandestine. And I'm pretty sure Ocelot doesn't mention it to Snake when Snake wakes up from the coma in the 'Doublethink' tape.

I think it's all part of Ocelot's long running alliance with Zero which is established in MGS3, which Big Boss isn't necessarily aware of. I don't think BB knows, at any point, that Ocelot is in touch with Zero.

Why doesn't Miller ever get a robot arm or leg? lol

He says why near the start. He says he doesn't want to rely on machinery like that. And more importantly he wants to indulge in the phantom pain so he never forgets what XOF have done.

Big Boss on the bike looking exactly the same as he has looked for the last 20 years is fucking moronic because he's supposed to be going into hiding.

How are you going to hide from people while keeping all of your most recognizable physical traits (eyepatch, beard, hair)?

He should've been clean-shaven with short, graying hair after removing the bandages.

Kojima loved Big Boss too much, even to the point where he made a duplicate to keep the real one in prestine condition.

Kojima was Ocelot all along.

Speaking of, fucking Ocelot has gray hair and Big Boss doesn't.

People are really reaching to try and justify the fact that a dude didn't finish his magnum opus for whatever reason. And then this bullshit to try and come up with a way to justify repetition and rehashed missions.

MGS5's Act Two can justify its incoherence for just this reason. Sure, it re-uses old missions and the story beats feel wedged together, but it's a tale of the day after tomorrow. It's about how it feels to keep living when your purpose is no longer clear. Snake is, effectively, phoning in his job by constantly re-deploying to the battlefield – echoed by the mantric structure – and it's appropriate he wouldn't realize that he's just lived the same day twice. The players that do notice and get aggravated… might just be understanding what Kojima really wants to say, and how we all need to move on.

Like holy shit some are just too desperate to admit that mistakes were made during the development of the game.

Miller probably gets some robot limbs later on considering he trains Solid Snake. You'd think Snake would ask about what happened.

Also I'm trying to think who has the most dialogue in the game. It's got to be either Miller or Code Talker. I think if you string all the text together where Code Talker talks about the parasites, it's longer than most movie scripts.

There's a school of thought that Metal Gear Solid 5 is 'unfinished' – based on a cut mission from the Collector's Edition bonus disc and some deleted visual files – that is currently bubbling on message boards and '$60 for an unfinished game LOL' Twitter outbursts.

are people actually saying this

there's still a fuck load of content in this game and it's easily worth $60... the problem is the story is untold and the end of the game is a clear clusterfuck that I can only assume has to do with those final, awful days kojima and team had to endure under konami

Man, thst gamesradar article is blubbling on. Looks like the author just wanted to share his random impressions on the game instead of delivering a coherent message.

Same.

Even a few grey hairs would have worked wonders to set that up. H

The box art looks like it has some grey hairs in it but could be dust or sand or something.

I guess technically the medic is younger and they can write around that but for Big Boss himself it would have been nice if they changed is appearance a little.
