Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

I think if Sean were to make it back into the game, he would need a redesign, at least with some of his outfit. "Dude in a gi" is already perfectly well covered by Ryu and inevitably Akuma. They've already been talking about characters' individuality being a big thing and wanting everybody to look and feel unique, to the point that they altered Ken's design quite a bit, and he's been someone that looked the same since...basically since as long as he existed.

It wouldn't need to be too drastic, but maybe take some of the ideas of his design and just expand on it a little. Instead of a yellow gi and pants, maybe a yellow jersey and some training pants or long shorts, he could even retain the black belt if he wanted. Basketball shot works decently as a V-skill, since you could only have one out at a time and the setup of the ball coming in from offscreen and him actually shooting it gives enough of a delay that it's only really a setup tool instead of a pressure projectile like the hadouken or sonic boom. Otherwise I'd say the basketball could be his V-trigger, but you'd have to make it unblockable or something to ever make that worthwhile. I don't know.

What I do know is that if Sean ever does make a return, he'd better damn well still yell TORNAAAADE!

They could just have V overwrite III entirely, kinda like how Alpha 2 rewrote Alpha.

I mean, this is really the first time Capcom's even pretended to give a modicum of a shit about the storyline they're presenting. They could basically clear decks with this if they wanted and say "going forward, Games X, Y and Z are actually important to the story we're crafting. Everything else is just kinda take-it-or-leave-it if you want."

Definitely wouldn't mind this.

I like how ppl discussing Sean and his look are completely glossing over the fact that he's dark skinned. I would say that makes him stand out from the plethora of shotos that have existed in SF.

Alpha also Retcon some SF2 stuff

Yeah, good point.

Again, the story is such a patchwork string of turds at this point anyway, that if they're seriously prioritizing story for the first time, well, ever, they can basically pick what games they want to "count" and fill in holes from there. If Alpha can overwrite itself and some of the mainline games, I can't see why this mainline game couldn't overwrite other abandoned storylines, either.

This is essentially their chance to legitimately establish some sort of official continuity. That could mean throwing some old games under the bus. I dont' think they'd mind. I don't think anyone who might buy this would mind, either. And I think the people who would mind - would still buy the game.

i'm really hoping this is the case. apparently MK9 story mode went through the whole lore of the series. as Ono said he's looking at that game for sp inspiration, i really hope they go that route.

take the opportunity to reboot and create 1 consistent timeline from scratch.

At the same time, I would hope that we're at a point nowadays where "but he's black!" is not the most significant detail that sets him apart from other shoto designs.

Even if they don't push further with the basketball motif and just give him something else, I'd rather have fewer people wearing the typical shoto-gi regardless.

Well it takes place before SFIII, so you could have him less shotofied as he's trying to emulate the style. This could go for moves and wardrobe.

There are a dozen other dark skinned characters more interesting than Sean, if that's your angle.

I think the basketball would be interesting as a V-Skill if you can alternate the angle. It should also bounce once (off the ground or opponent) and stay active, maybe allowing Sean to strike the ball again to hurl it back at the opponent.

SF V could just show flashbacks or mention certain key scenarios from Alpha,3 or 4 if they need to retcon.

For example if theres any doubt over whether Charlie followed the Alpha 2 death ending or Alpha 3. They can just show some flashback cutscene or mention it in the story mode.

I dont think theres a need to cancel out all the story of previous SF games.

Like a revenge meter that gives them access to another independent Super? I dunno about that. The damage is pretty high already. If you talking multiple supers options like 3S then I agree with you.

No, I just meant that they gave us multiple Ultra's to choose from in SF4, without them changing the bar size.

Nothing really happens in 3. Gill and co. shit around, akuma is still being edgy, Ken loses to Ryu, etc. The only real conflicts are the ages, and people not knowing others beforehand. So chun won't know urien because they first met in 3, and Alwx first fought Ryu in 3S as well. Other than that, nothing has really changed iirc.

There's a bunch of fun things thst did happen. Alex beat the shit out of Balrog, Ryu was Hugo's wrestling partner for a time too.

My bet is that SF V will jump over SF 3 story. It starts before, but it ends later than SF3.

Just like it was said, SF3 wasn't really full of meaningfull happenings.

Just imagine Kushnood Butt in SFV, why would we need Sean? Oh man, now that I've thought about it I'm sad because I know it will never happen :(

You could probably buy the License to use Kushnood butt from SNK for $5 , with the state they are in.

I agree! Need vulva to sign off for it to be official. Maybe hasn't been keeping an eye on the thread?

Glad I was narcissistic enough to search if anyone mentioned my name. Sorry, the past week I've barely been online since school started up again, work's been busy and any other spare time I was running around to catch various movies at TIFF (Toronto Film Fest) plus I had to do best man duties for a friend's wedding. Needless to say, it's been hard to keep up with this thread.

aaaaaaaaaanyways I'll shake on that. My 10 bucks says Sim and Gief are in the starting roster vs yours saying they aren't. No DLC crap etc. I'm assuming paypal is fine for the exchange?

Whoa, hey, wait a sec:

Do you actually know that Gief & Sim are going to be the last two characters in the game, or was that just a super-confident guess a few pages back?

I mean, it looks that way (especially since there's no way my post directly addressing him didn't come up if he's vanity searching the thread) but I figure I might as well give it one more shot before moving along.

They aren't going to be among the initial 16. I'd bet $250 right now.

I don't understand why this game gets constantinflux of information, but Tekken 7 has been quiet for a while now and I think it was announced before it? I think almost all the cast for the game have been revealed as well.

I like Street Fighter, but I want some Tekken info too.

Think the Tekken team has their hands in too many projects.

It's because this game is coming to consoles first
