Nah, I don't know the Guile/Ibuki matchup, and Hamad legit just destroyed me. He was awesome. I him on stream later beating some really good players. Vortex, of course, didn't help, but I kept being put into the situation. /shrug

I'm happy with how I performed. I struggled with SF4 for years and finally just gave up and went back to basics with Guile and Ryu and I played better this year than any year prior. Had a gauntlet of 4 or 5 matches back to back that were all really good before I lost.

Nice, yeah I get too frustrated when I play SF IV now. I practically can't go back after getting a taste of V.

I still have a group of friends that play, so I do on the weekends. But I'm only using Ryu now.

If I would have started with Guile or Ryu instead of the characters I like more, I might have enjoyed SF4 a lot more.

But yeah, it's been a solid 3-4 years of play from me. I'm ready to say goodbye to the old game.

I wouldn't necessarily call myself an '09er because I played and loved fighting games as a gamer growing up, but SF IV was the first one that really got me into it because of the online aspect (by constantly having competition to face). It also motivated me to learn how to play on stick which I'm thankful for having that skill now. But yeah after 6 years with the game, I'm ready to break up with it as well.

Maybe you should try the Infiltration and try other characters, especially when playing casually.

I've tried over the entire course of SF4 to learn tons of different characters. I've said in other threads, but the game has just never felt right to me. For the entirety of the game's life I've been fighting the way SF4 feels with learning new characters. It still hasn't clicked. Things just feel wrong to me in the game.

I actually did give up on SF4 after Super and didn't come back until AE just because so many people were still playing.

I'm fine with where I ended up in SF4. SF5 so far for me feels perfect. Everything feels right. I'm very excited about SF being my preferred fighter again. :)

I would. The twins are pretty strong alone, and were technically at weakest in CVS2. (Yun /w Yang)

Yun is a strong character solo, even above the majority of SF's overall roster. Yang is almost just as good only to fall behind by a few characters. I can't see how they're generic, their designs were based off of Gundam Wing's Duo and Trowa, and they're really just two powerful ass Chinese street punks. I mean it's kinda expected being the grandsons of Gen, but still overall their vibe is one that you can't find many places, especially elsewhere in SF.

Part of why I think they are generic is because they are based off of them actually, (and Trowa is my favorite character from Wing). They really aren't that original of designs for me, I only ever really see the Gundam characters.

Disclaimer though, I'm not super aware of their story/lore, especially regarding things like the comics, if story is what you meant when talking about strength. Since I never cared much for them I never read up on them. If you meant gameplay wise, then yeah they've always been pretty strong, I didn't mean to say otherwise in that regard.

I would never say they are above the majority of the SF roster though in my book, top B tier at most. But again I know that's an unpopular opinion.

Didn't know about the possible Gen thing though, that's neat.

The enjoyment I get out of IV just depends on the match-up lol. Some I hate, some I love. 3s is what I've been playing lately. Wish I had picked up Ibuki sooner, she's a ton of fun and really clicked with me (stay away because I hated her in IV, and now I'm kinda sad she probably wouldn't translate well in V either). Will probably play a good amount of SFV. Looking forward to the release window all-nighters with the offline cracksquad. I had plenty of fun with the beta but I'm not sure I'll go as hard as I did with SFIV just due to circumstances, even if I end up liking it it better.

lol it's all good, but yeah I was talking gameplay wise. I think canon wise they're pretty far up as well. Not in higher S but I'd say prolly between A-B. For the most part they're pretty talented when it comes to their Kung Fu. (I don't want to oversell, so someone check.)

Anyone live in the Boston/Massachusetts area? I'd love to have a crew/release party when the game drops. Seemingly more of my friends don't care about SF anymore.

Well might as well enjoy the ride to SFV then. New game new luck.

Considering that there are Chinese and Hongkong characters alreay, I'd love to see a character from Taiwan with Zen. The SF franchise still lacks the shaolin/"once upon a time in china" trope!

Hey, at least it's not fire and ice yeah?

She could also have had a tired revenge plot regarding her daughter who was killed by Bison/Seth while calling herself an avenger and moaning about her pain and suffering and you can't understaaaand, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

That would be instantly played.

I think you might have the same issue as me. SF4 doesn't play well with my playing style or at least I don't think it does, especially on high level play.

I developed my way of playing mostly thanks to SF2, SFA3 and SF3 and it's mostly based on reads, pokes, mix ups and the like. SF4, mechanically speaking, doesn't develop well those play styles thank to a number of things like focus, ultras, OS and so on.

SF V is the complete opposite. It's a game, like SF3, where reads and mix ups are main aspects of it. This allowed me to adapt to the game much faster than SF4.

It's crazy how much this mirrors my own experience with SF4.

My experience to a T.

My main issue with SFIV is that i cant find a single character i love and want to stick with. In SF3 i love Alex and wanna get good with him. At least SFV has Mika whos one of my favorite SF characters from a purely aestetic. My favorite type of character is a weird grappler like Alex or Mika but i didnt like either of the weird grapplers in 4. Also im a super aestetic player who chooses mains based on design and i dont care for many of the 4 designs minus Juri

Zen will be a robot monk possessed by the ghost of a ten-year old Taiwanese girl whose father was the last of an ancient secret order of Shaolin monks.

The Taiwanese girl worked for Shadowlaw, but now the robot works for the illuminati. It'll be a really conflicted character which should lead to some really good character moments.

Yes, this was one of my early hurdles. Don't want to go into it and start feeling like I'm bashing SF4, but yeah. Pretty much this.

my dude. my issues with SFIV stem from the Revenge/Ultra bullshit and how mechanically unsatisfying Focus is BUT i feel you.

the semi-grapplers weren't as cool as they could've been:
-Abel had a rekka move which i don't enjoy
-E. Honda was kinda boring
-Hakan has maybe the worst SF design of all time

nothing that was nearly as fun or aesthetically pleasing as Alex from 3S.

i do think Alex will replace the Gief/Hugo style of the opening cast so i'm really looking forward to Mika & some (hopefully day 1) alt dlc for her.

Blanka is Brazillian...the Portugeuse form of Charlie is Carlos, but then so is the Spanish version according to Wikipedia.

But why are we talking about that modern classic that is the SF Movie anyway?
