Bro this is the canonest game, seeing it is a numbered entry.

Chances are the medic, proto phantom big boss suggested outer heaven.

It's not numbered tho.
Even kojima himself said it. He said the V stands for Venom not five.
People insist on calling it mgs 5 when in reality it's MGS V

Well to be fair. The website for the game is http://www.konami.jp/mgs5/ :V

Anyway...

Some people have been trying to do something with the MSX code you hear in VOL 1 and 2 of the tapes in both GZ and TPP. Seems this guy is getting somewhere. Seems the tapes play "Portopia Serial Murder Case" which apparently is an inspiration of Kojimas

I did it! I had to actually use P6DatRec2.exe which was alot more accurate (considering it was compiled in 1999 compared to the original P6DatRec compiled in 1998). Thanks guys! Big smile

Here are my results for the TPP (VOL1) audio:

Its true that these results vary depending on what software you use, but I got the "BY YUJI HORI" string to show up which is enough proof to me that this is legit.

Pretty rusening.

Will this cruise ever reach safe harbor?
Its final destination is the safest of places.

It isn't numbered. It's V. This game's story & twist are so godawful it's impossible for it to be canon.

It all fits perfectly together if you listen to the tapes. Being "godawful" doesn't mean that it's not canon. It just means that Kojima is not a very good writer.

it ain't numbered

V ain't a number

I guess there's never been a numbered sequel to Final Fantasy then. Or Dragon Quest. Or Dragon Age.

It's not numbered tho.
Even kojima himself said it. He said the V stands for Venom not five.

Metal Gear Solid Venom? Would have made more sense to call it Metal Gear Venom if that were the case.

It cheapens the lore. This entry single handedly screws the lore. Nothing Venom did in the game impacts the rest of the story. I wanted to see the real Big Boss and his downfall, not some random ass medic.

Metal Gear Solid: Venom

Solid symbolizes 3D. That's all.

You know what this game needed? More twists instead of one lame one. Chico should've been Quiet. Paz was actually alive. Eli is actually Miller's clone. Just twists everywhere.

He wanted to begin building a nation of soldiers in pursuit of world without governments. After Zero attempted to befriend his former ally with the doppelganger ploy to ensure his safety after the events of Ground Zeroes, Big Boss awoke and decided to exploit the situation by discreetly building his own true nation of mercenaries: Zanzibar Land, depicted in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. In the meantime, Punished "Venom" Snake was groomed to build Outer Heaven in Africa thereby taking all the heat off Big Boss's actual efforts. In regard to him falling back into good terms with Cipher post-Phantom Pain, it hasn't been officially explained but I believe he wanted to further disguise his intentions by becoming the commander of FOXHOUND and keep tabs on his clone Solid Snake.

What are you guys talking about ?

Big Boss isn't building Zanzibarland during the events of MGSV.

He's building Outer Heaven.

Venom Snake didn't build Outer Heaven. The timeline says so at the end of mission 46

Big Boss was initially a part of Cipher/The Patriots during its conception in the early 1970s, but he had a falling out with Zero over how The Boss's mortality for world peace should be implemented. Sensing the legendary soldier's disenchantment over their use of his image as a poster boy, Zero kicked off the "Les Enfants Terribles" project to have genetic clones created for potential military disposal. This action, done without consent, infuriated Big Boss into breaking away in pursuit of an increasingly anarchistic view of peace through a world without governments. In a sympathetic turn of events, Zero felt terrible for losing his closest ally as a result of his paranoia along with the rogue attack committed by one of his agents, Skull Face, after Ground Zeroes. He preserved Big Boss's comatose body away in Cyprus for safety as an effort to make amends for his previous actions. He was responsible for requesting EVA and Ocelot to oversee the operation of moving Big Boss, "Kazuhira" Miller, and the Medic/Venom Snake immediately after the destruction of MSF.

All that sounds just amazing and helpful.

The one think I just dont understand is is Zero's actions.

I mean he was an enemy to BB. He stole MG in PW.

Why would he help BB after the crash? Why would he help create Venom? And hide the boss since they were enemies? Is it Love?

And where were the BB during this time?

I just dont understand why he would help him if they were enemies :p

Other than that, Man...Am too sad that this maybe the last MGS.

gameplay, Story is great, But the all open world idea just ruined the game IMO. Just empty and repetitive as hell. I dont see how it got 10/10 really.

So what? That has nothing to do with whether it's canon. If Kojima wants to cheapen the lore, he's allowed to cheapen the lore. It's his lore.

Who knows what Liquid was doing in the SAS? He was probably taking down organizations from the inside or blowing up Britain's version of Metal Gear (because let's be real: that's how the writers would create a storyline for Liquid)

He became leader of FOXHOUND almost right after joining. He obviously had some cred to his name.

The ending of this game also implies that Ocelot is the one to eventually kill Miller, or at least, that's how I took it.

Venom Snake didn't build Outer Heaven. The timeline says so at the end of mission 46

Remember in that time line as well, Venom is referred to as Big Boss or BB's Phantom.

Also Going by what was already established and not changed from this game, BB built Outer heaven, the IDEA and the place. He failed at MG1, and Zanzabar Land was basically Outer Heaven again.

Hell in this Game venom refers MB as Outer Heaven, so does Kaz.

Piecing it all together it is easy to say both Venom and BB worked together to build OH 1, and after it failed (or was beginning to fail) BB went to go build OH 2 (zanzibar)

I don't think they refer to MB as Outer Heaven, Outer Heaven is just a concept, an idea in TPP.

That's pretty much what I meant, except that in the timeline, Venom is referred to only once, as Big Boss's phantom, when they talk about Big Boss, it's the real one.

But the real BB isn't building Zanzibarland during MGSV.

They are colleagues with an ideological disagreement. Zero's plans blew up in his face and he is going to "die" soon so he gets regretful and nostalgic about BB. So he softens up and helps BB. BB was creating Outer Heaven.

As for reviews, it lucked out as a lot of people including reviewers liked the gameplay loop and the open world "sandbox" more than some people, including you. I've read a lot of people putting in a hundred hours in and still wanting more but there are also a lot of people of feel the same as you. Very polarising game.

i'm in this weird zone where i've put 120 hours + in and kind of vaguely want to more, but am being dissuaded because it's alllllll kinda pointless

it's the downside of also having the mother base stuff where you get enjoyment out of filling bars. I mean, the gameplay itself is definitely satisfying, but it's satisfying because you have goals and aims and will get rewarded as well as just being fun moment to moment. When the goals and aims and rewards become basically pointless (and there's also zero story motivation to bother since I'm never going to get any additional character content, nevermind story content), I may as well just put it down. Heck, I think I have

Same here. I am 130 hours in, 92%, and would continue to play - but I don't want to bother with the remaining side objectives. So I log in once a day to collect my reward and get 1 min off the clock of my nuke. It may be finished in a year.

It's adorable how you do not realize you just got undone by your own points.

Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are not sequels to one another.

Wanna hear the kicker? The sequel to Final Fantasy X is called Final Fantasy X-2 and not Final Fantasy X-II (same goes for FFXIII's sequels)

Funny ol' world, isn't it?

PW is 5 and V is 6. Which number Konami chooses to attach to the next mainline entry, whether it's 5, 6 or 7 - it doesn't really matter.
Because pachislot machines don't work that way.

Three FOB invasion attempts, three massive failures. :/

I activated my 2 free days of PS Plus and I'm just not able to get anywhere in FOB's. the guards are all buffed to hell and the floating turrets fuck me up because i never know if i got them all. The areas are big flat platforms where it's easy to be spotted so I'm not sure how to go about beating these things...

First thing I do is tag as many people/uavs as I can from the chopper. Then use sonic pulse to check nearby and listen out if anyone reacts. If you can interrogate someone you can ask them where other people are, which is super useful here. Decoys are very useful too

After you get that message about the Battle Gear, there is the first Battle Gear specific mission at the top of the list that requires it. It looks almost identical to any of the other deployment missions, but it has a yellow dot to its side.

uh there doesn't seem to be one
i mean, I got and keep getting missions with yellow dots but i never saw a "battle gear" icon in the mission requirements window, so unless it's only specified in the mission description i must have missed it.

Or i haven't unlocked it yet, which is strange since Kaz (or Ocelot, i could never tell them apart :P) told me I should deploy the battle gear asap.

Either way, it's utterly pointless. The game made a huge deal of something you will never even get to use or see ingame, lol.

Unfortunately at this point i don't think i have reasons to keep playing anyway.
I don't look forward to unlocking mission 45 or developing cool gadgets. Not into online or FOBs anyway so i guess my time with MGSV is over.

Funny ol' world, isn't it?

It's adorable how you chose to ignore the third game I mentioned because it didn't fit the point you were trying to make. I already admitted that the V doesn't stand for 5 after seeing that tweet from Kojima, so what exactly was your point again?

So I've played the truth mission. Does that mean I've finished the game properly? Can I listen to GiantBomb and watch SuperBunnyHop now?

Please just answer yes or no. Don't go into specifics if the answer is no.

yeah, listen to the tapes and if you have also finished mission 46 you're save to listen/watch those.

So people are in denial phase and pretend this game isn't canon?

Also, hate to quote my own post but does anyone know the answer to this? Those missions should unlock even if you have beaten the game right?

Soo... is there a bug where side op 60 (last of the wandering soldier extractions) doesn't unlock or am I missing something? I thought it would unlock after you show all the previous photos to Paz but no. A little googling told me that it should unlock after mission 38 and side op 59, but I've done both and still no side op 60. Please tell me I'm missing something because if there's a bug that won't let me finish all the side ops I'll be so god damn pissed :S
