Well, I didn't really think about that. I just thought of it since they had World Cup statue instead of Christ the Redeemer statue.

Maybe you are on to something. A young female who is an aspiring soccer player or something. I am not sure how the Brazilian fans would take it though.

It's not like Capcom/Udon have proven to be in a relationship where one side really pays any attention to what the other is doing.

It's not the most synergistic of storytelling relationships.

That comic has been out since around evo, dunno why it's changing people's minds now.
It was an exclusive release for SDCC, just recently made available digitally, and we're now at the point where it's most relevant to rumors that will live or die by these final reveals.

And there's nothing to talk about until presumably next week, so

Udon comics are pretty canon, IIRC

there is an udon character in street fighter 4

also i'll give you a link

Thanks for the link.

Welp, after reading through, it has a ton of inconsistencies:

Charlie never died on the cliff. He died holding down Bison during the explosion on Shadoloo's base in Alpha 3.

Abel never met Guile. He said he thought someone using a "sonic boom like technique" was seen during his travels, but he confirmed it wasn't Charlie (after 4).

Chun Li never met Nash. None of her storylines ever hint at Nash being alive.

Agent Shadow is from the Versus series. Never shows up in the mainline games.

All of the above is confirmed from official sources located in the plot guides on GameFAQs. Most of their information comes from art books with canon descriptions, developer commentary, and Capcom confirming shit over the years.

While Urien could definitely be behind bring Nash back, I think the comics are merely filling in the gaps of what happened to Nash using SFV as a tie-in. The comics already have a ton of inconsistencies anyway (characters meeting that never met in the games or still haven't met, the introduction of things from Versus games, etc).

By the way, what character did Udon make for the comics that made it into SFIV? I never heard that before.

True. Maybe a new comic at nycc?

It might be worth mentioning that Seth possibly stole his Sonic Boom from Charlie instead of Guile. He, like Charlie, throws it with one hand; Guile cannot do that.

Well

Games -> comics -> games.

As I understood it, the Udon comics simply align with game canon and go from there (as someone mentioned earlier). Almost nothing about Decapre had been established in Alpha 3 itself, though, so for USF4 they probably drew from the comics. (But they barely took anything, right? Is there any reference to Udon stuff wrt Decapre in Ultra? They didn't need much beyond her despising Cammy)

As for the Nash comic being canon, the wording on reports at the time made it seem like it was. But this blurb straight from from Udon's announcement:
The world’s most popular fighting game franchise continues with STREET FIGHTER V, coming soon from Capcom! In the meantime, UDON is thrilled to bring you the first Street Fighter V-related story at Comic-Con International! Players around the world were ecstatic to hear of the return of fan-favorite character CHARLIE NASH to the series. Now, find out how he returned in our original comic production, THE LIFE AND DEATH(S) OF CHARLIE NASH! This book gives you the scoop on what Charlie has been up to since his last appearance in our comics! This 48-page, oversized hardcover book contains all brand-new content, and fans buying this sure-to-be-hot item will also get a FREE head sketch from one of the UDON artists present at the show. Oh, and don’t worry – this book also matches the rest of the collected edition books in the franchise. THE LIFE AND DEATH(S) OF CHARLIE NASH is a convention exclusive and will not be available in stores!
makes it sound like it's only in line with their own seires canon, not necessarily the game canon. Which would explain those inconsistencies TheSpoiler pointed out. I definitely remember reading that Shadow vs Chun & Guile fight years ago, and I'm pretty sure his death is how it went down previously in the comics as well.

I believe it was also clarified that Abel was referring to Seth using Sonic Booms, but that he had still met Charlie.

Sooooo, Honda, Gen, DeeJay, T.hawk, and Dan. Will we ever see these characters in V? Basically the less popular II and Alpha characters who also showed up in IV.

Gen could work since V-Skill as stance swap simplifies him a lot. The others...probably not, especially since people may not want to actually spend money on Dan.
