Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Honestly MvC sells because of Capcom fighting engine just as much as the Marvel name. How succesful was Injustice? Marvel and DC are huge names yes , but in a relatively niche genre like 2D Fighters. A big mainstream name lke Marvel or DC is relatively smaller.

A Capcom Fighting All stars would do decently well , maybe even reach 2m in sales. SF,RE,DMC are pretty big franchises. And its not like MvC3 was blazing through the sales charts or anything. It couldn't top SF4.

Capcom vs Jump would be even better , Jump doesn't really need the same level of money as a Marvel. And they are pretty famous with IPs like Dragon Ball and Naruto selling millions on consoles.

If MvC3 was selling 5-6m units or something , then you have a point. There is noway a Capcom or any 2D Fighter is reaching those numbers without a giant brand behind it. But its not , infact its not even able to top SF,Tekken,Smash,MK who are all much smaller names than Marvel.

MvC3's legs were cut short by Ultimate, keep that in mind (& Capcom's hands were tied as far as release scheduling went). And while Capcom has some moderately-sized franchises like Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, etc., Marvel has some of the biggest franchises in the world. Even if the X-Men & the Fantastic Four are off-limits, the Avengers & the Guardians of the Galaxy are household names these days. And if I recall, Injustice sold pretty damn well. It just wasn't as good of a fighting game as far as long-term support went.

I'd kill for a Capcom vs Square/Enix.

That's what I was thinking. MvC4 would be the only Vs. game that'd be guaranteed to be successful enough for continued support. This is assuming that Capcom doesn't fuck up the negotiations to where they get the short end of the stick as far as long-term support goes.

Capcom would care, sure. But Marvel wouldn't, as they mainly care about promoting the franchises that they'd make the most money from.

While I'm on the topic of MvC4, I feel like Rashid would be a great representative for SFV in such a Vs. game. He could translate easily to the Vs. game style.

Yeah, Rashid would be cool but I would reserve my opinions until I see other two newcomers first.

Also if we are going to get Capcom All Stars then it's our time to get Breath of Fire character. It's seriously overdue!

A giant name doesn't mean much in a niche space like 2D Fighters.

On Mobile Games or Toys/Merch , a name like Marvel would be a huge selling point. Since casuals will eat up that shit just because of Marvel name.

But for a $60 retail , hardcore 2D Fighting game. You have a much smaller userbase of potential buyers where such a huge brand name doesn't help all that much. They look more at the quality of the game just as much as the name. The audience for MvC3 are already familiar with IPs like RE,DMC,Megaman just as much as they are with Marvel.

This is why on Mobile you have that POS Marvel fighter , making as much ( or more) money as MvC.v Quality doesnt matter over there , name matters more.

As far as the modern landscape for fighting game sales go for Capcom, we should probably wait until Street Fighter V to make such assumptions. As far as last gen goes, 2D fighters sold pretty well when properly advertised.

Regardless of how well SF V does , since it only strengthens Capcom's side of the brand. Since SF belongs to Capcom.

If MvC ( A Capcom and Marvel branded title ) Cant beat SF ( A Capcom title ) in the same genre ( Hardcore 2D Fighter) . Then even without the Marvel brand , I feel Capcom All Stars will do fine.

For MvC to be truly mainstream 6-7m , it would need to become a Smash bros style party game ( Not trying to bash the game but you know what I mean) .
So that casuals would buy it just for the Marvel name. Thats when the Marvel brand would really show its mainstream appeal. But the FGC would absolutely disown Capcom if they did that.

Ok some dude is uploading all of the nash comic onto 4chan

This is the dumbest, this dude nash is walking into a warzone, all his comrades have armor on, looking like they are in call of duty. This fool in his street fighter alpha outfit, like bullets don't hurt or some shit. Flashing kicking Gatling guns wielded by generic " middle eastern/north african " terrorist man.

Like I said, MvC3's legs were cut short by Ultimate, so it's not exactly a fair comparison to make.

ROFL ... I have to see this.

Agreed , but even if MvC did beat SF 4. Its not going to be by much. They did around the same at launch.

MvC desperately needed some casual features , a strong Single player mode or some party modes would have helped. Many of my casual friends showed more interest in the game compared to SF. But they just didnt go ahead and buy it since it didnt have much outside of an arcade mode , they would get bodied online and arent really competitive gamers.

If MvC came out MK 9 style SP content that would have helped too. I hope Capcom learnt from all this for MvC4.
MvC has a ton of potential , it shouldnt be selling SF 4 numbers at all.

Just seen the comic.

Yeah, Urien is definately in.

giphy.gif

Illuminati boyz are in.

Okay that comic makes me want Kolin in this game, it better happen.

edit: Holy shit. The first thing nash does when he rescues Abel is flashkick him, no one likes Abel.

Ok, I buy Urien being in now. But why people saying Alex? Because he is the De facto rep of III? Story wise Gill or Guile, or gameplay wise Gief or Sim make more sense.

Pretty much. And if Urien's in, then Alex is most likely in by virtue of the Siliconera leak.

If that was happening, we would have had an announcement by now. Rumors surrounding that date as far back as last year.

Well, Team Ninja surly have a lot of things on their hands right now, like D:FF Reboot, etc. Did it take Capcom and Marvel a year and half to two years to finally agreed on everything for MVC3?

We also would have heard more substantial leaks or rumors on the game. All we have to go on is one GAFer who supposedly said that the deal went south.

There's no rule in the book that you have to have a pure grappler and pure zoning guy in a fighting game.

I didn't know that the deal went south. It's interesting how Marvel and Team Ninja's deal went south, and Square-Enix and Team Ninja just appeared recently with FF:D reboot. I think I'm happy with latter.

Street Fighter V:

Do anyone think that Ono is going to tease us with a picture on twitter next week?

Yes, because that's what he does.

True, but I bet Capcom would want to offer a balanced cast that support as much play styles as possible. I also feel it's to service the top players who are known for a certain style of play.

At least 1 new reveal would be in less than two weeks from next Monday. I say yes.
And the tease will involve something to make us think Blanka is the reveal

next reveal is in exactly 2 weeks bruh

The top players shouldn't be catered to in any means. If they're good at fighting games they adjust to the new game and prove they're a top player.

The Charlie Nash comic that came out explaining how he's around in Street Fighter V (said comic is canon). The Illuminati are responsible for his revival (Charlie was approached by Kolin & Urien), & Gill himself did the modifications to Charlie's body.

I agree with that, but I guess what I am trying to say is Capcom should not alienate players with certain gameplay styles and tendencies. Cater to the aggressive, defensive, runaway styles etc.

And it doesn't have to be done through classic characters. Looking at the current cast of V, I see a lack of grapplers and zoners, and I wouldn't be surprised if the the remaining 4 characters fullfill these roles.

I know the comic with Urien reviving Nash, but is there's more now? That's a few months old.

Rainbow Mika fills the grappling role pretty well. Though I could see either Zen or Laura being our zoner.

She is no heavy grappler like Gief though. She reminds me more of a Fuerte/Abel esque grappler. Would SF4 have sufficed with those 2 and without Gief?

And on that note, do we know anything about her health points?
