The one described on Giant Bomb was the way that really got me interested in the possibilities.

Jason let him to the edge of the cliff over the reservoir, then dove past him, got into a jeep, gunned it, and hopped out before it hit Volgin. Volgin went off the cliff with the jeep and just didn't come back, so Jason could call the helicopter in peace.

That stuff sounds really cool! I just wish there were more to it rather than that being the culmination of all things Man on Fire. It's more puzzle than puzzle-boss.

I accidentally killed Volgin by shooting a rocket at him, which I missed, and accidentally blew up the flammable gas tank he was standing by.

I keep thinking about how Venom's true self just ends up looking like a WWE game create-a-wrestler.

Speak for yourself, my Venom is one handsome motherfucker.

No wonder Quiet was all over that.

You can also use the jeep to run him into the shallow pool in the middle of the area, and that beats him.

But compare that to the first fight with Volgin in MGS3, where you still had to fight him and work out his patterns, even if you use tree frogs and glowing mushrooms.

IOT3I As long a we have "Loyalty to the gameplay," There's no point in believing in anything... even in those games with good stories.

|OT3| The trailers that sold the world

:( they truly did. Actually... MGSV trailers tell a better complete and interesting story than the game itself.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That's some high praise.

You back up your analysis with facts, but also with the games lore. You give insight to everything that you explain... and mostly. You pay attention to all the details, explain the meaning of what Kojima does, appreciate it for what it is, and then call him out on his BS.

I agree... completely. The game is uninspired. It lacks any soul, and mostly... there is no change. There is no movement that motivates you to move through the story like a good story does. Most of my complaints are how flat characters are, and removing any of them would not change the outcome of the story.

Not to mention the laughable Skullface, that is just an excuse of a villain. I believe maybe Kojima wanted Skullface to come back as a demon that haunts VS... with the end cutscene with Skullface appearing behind him. but i certainly appreciate that you mention how the story had come full circle in PW. Very interesting stuff man.

Yeah, MGS3 is god-tier boss fights.

I wonder if Kojima had help designing those because MGS4 was a step down but I always wrote that off as him just having a crush on those models and not thinking clearly. It does seem like after MGS3, he lost the ability to design great Metal Gear Solid-style boss fights, though.

With all due love and respect, if the OT title is essentially implying "this game is bad", it's just going to create bad MOJO within and pollute the conversation.

|OT3| The ending will become shit - I have found the way. 'RACE', story conclusion, even character development will become irrelevant. The ending that Tomokazu Fukushima envisioned will never become a reality, and it will make the fans pissed again.

[OT3] Boss with No Name

Do we ever learn V's real name?

It's "DICKHEAD," I saw it right there on the back of that picture.

I kinda doubt people will have trouble filling the conversation with bad mojo on their own once they finish the game, to be honest.

I thought the man on fire fight was awesome, but could've been awesome-er. The amount of ways you can go about defeating him is awesome. I myself beat him with the water pistol, which WILL work but it just takes like over 50 shots.

The way to approach the fight is extremely dynamic, but Volgin himself is not. He pretty much just walks around, shoots a fireball every now and then, and waits for you to figure out how to beat him.

I got him wet with a water tank and made a run to the chopper, which I'd already called in.

I was impressed by Vally defeating the man on fire by waiting it out. Eventually it rained, and poof. He was gone. LOL!

As much as I love this game, something about the portrayal of Big Boss never sat well with me. I'm rescuing children from a mine where they were held against their will, passing mass graves and piles of burning bodies on the way to the escape. But because of the mechanics of the game I'm recruiting the scumbags responsible for these atrocities to fight on my side. This would be awesome if they committed to this idea and used this as a subtle way to tell the story through game play. Boss is so desperate to realize his ideals he's willing to compromise his integrity and build an army out of monsters. But instead they're constantly trying to make the Boss a nice guy that is rescuing children and animals, totally cool with massive amounts of insubordination, and allows people that betray him go free. And even double down on it by making the protagonist the Phantom, diffusing Big Boss of any blame that may arise.

Maybe it's intentional. Unreliable narrator and all. All these good deeds are propaganda and we're supposed to follow this saintly figure as he builds a fascist society fueled by war. Or maybe Kojima was too scared to commit either way, so it's stuck in this gross middle ground. Whatever, I'm reading too much into all this. Just trying to pinpoint what it was specifically that was off putting to me. In the end I loved the game, I'm just disappointed with how both Bosses turned out.

Also, I'm confused about mission 45. Quiet couldn't talk because she had the English parasites. So doesn't that mean the Phantom is now infected because she broke her silence? And why isn't she dying from it? Never quite understood what was going on there.

I think the phantom content shit needs to stop, just learn to accept the game for what it is and not what it isn't...

because, imo, much of mgsv is what it isn't. had a great time with it, & can't help but think that all that isn't there, in some weird way, kinda contributed to that...

so yeah, for me, it's 'mgsv: the phantom game' :) ...

Oh man guys, I'm back from a ban and boy what a brutal time to get slapped with one right before the release of MGSV. Needless to say I beat the game within the first couple days of release and like most everyone else here was SUPER disappointed in pretty much all aspects of the game's story and certain gameplay decision. Now, I planned to write a super long post detailing why the game's story was so bad but then it ballooned into like 8 pages and I figured no body would want to read that so I decided to try and make a video about. Of course, recently SuperBunnyHop came through with a video that perfectly stated many of the things I was already planning on saying about the game and its plot but since I was already half-way done with making the video I decided to finish it anyway.

So, here's my thoughts on MGSV's Story:
MGSV: A Phantom Plot (A Critique of MGSV's Story)

I want to apologize and warn you in advance for the poor audio quality and general production quality. I'm not some production whizz and I'm working with sub-par equipment. So be sure to turn up the volume and be gentle criticizing my voice work, I managed to screw up a few times recording and was too lazy to re-record those parts so take that as you will. Surprisingly, I forgot to mention a few other things that bugged me regarding the plot like how the "real" Big Boss is completely out of character for the brief bits we get of him but I can talk about that later.

Enjoy.

Really good video. I do kinda sympathize with Kojima feeling tired of the franchise and wanting to do something different. Many people have said MGS3 was all that needed to be said on how Big Boss became the man he was. Maybe he felt the same, but he's just forced to churn out these games. So Peace Walker explains his fall again. Instead of doing that a third time, he decides on a twist that's intended as a final salute to the fans.

My only issue with it is that the marketing very much made this game out to be MGS5.
