The fact that you couldn't sort people by language was a big fuck you to people that figured it out, getting to scroll and sort through 800+ staff members until your eyes bleed.

Is it explained why that doesn't affect Snake?

Pick your explanation: Wolbachia / Nanomachines / Ocelot's anti-parasite spell he put on the medic when he was in his coma

I don't know, probably missed it in the code talker tapes

The explanation is literally parasites, I wasn't joking.

The parasite infects the tissue of the local nervous system and causes their seemingly supernatural powers, puppet-like behaviour and skin discoloration. The "mist" is actually a dense cloud of nano-sized parasitic particles which infect unwilling hosts and takes over by infesting the central nervous system. The dense cloud of particles causes rapid oxidation by binding themselves to the iron on a molecular level, which is why tanks, vehicles and even D-Walker are made useless.

You should ask yourself if a pseudo-scientific explanation that anyone could come up with really changes anything.

No, the parasites explain their abilities and what the mist is but not the zombie like behavior, as far as what i can recall. The tapes never explain why soldiers turn into violent zombies upon being exposed to the mist or why the Skulls look the way they do especially when both Code Talker and Quiet use parasites and look normal. The first time we saw parasites effecting brain activity was in Ch. 2 when they mutated and if you listen to the tapes afterwards Code Talker didn't think that was possible and was a completely new development. That of course means that those soldiers we encounter before hand in the boss battle couldn't be having their brains altered by the parasites.

Is it explained why that doesn't affect Snake?
Of course.

Snake's special condition with all the shrapnel and other foreign bodies being embedded in his body and especially the larger piece embedded close to his frontal lobe are disrupting the usual vector of infection for this particular strain of parasites.

edit: guys pls I'm literally making this shit up

I stole 4 nukes off some guy's FOB. Doesn't show up on my resources list, yet it shows up on my FOB. I don't get it. Can someone explain this to me? I want to decommission some of them for the trophy.

It will take a few hours. Took about 3 or 4 hours until I actually recieved it in the resource menu. I guess it's to give people a chance to get it back or something.

Any warm feelings I had for my men were gone as soon as the game forced me to sort through 640 of them to find the ones who spoke Kikongo. These multilingual motherfuckers can fall into the sea for all I care.

Hideo Kojima: "In this game, you the player have to personally manage the most critical emergencies, such as the pandemic on Mother Base. I wanted the player to face and confront these types of situations. I didn't want the player to passively watch Snake endure the pain during cutscenes. I wanted Snake and the player to be in the same place, to feel the same pain together."

Maybe you don't think he executed it well, but it wasn't his intention to make that part easy at all. Snake would have manually gone through and made sure ANY member of his staff that was infected or could get infected were quarantined, and since you're Snake, you have to do it. It was a very deliberate design decision, just like making you physically suffer from torture sequences (spamming triangle), this was designed to make you mentally suffer from having to go through your staff one-by-one.

So wait a minute.

Ocelot never uses his gun. REVOLVER Ocelot doesn't use his REVOLVER

Well, he shoots at the ceiling to stop the soldiers from lynching Huey, but that's pretty much it.

Ocelot fucking sucked in this game, in every way possible.

nah, snake is a demon, that's why he sat on the deck of motherbase vaping while half his staff died

Super Paper Mario's "Just hold right for ten minutes" thing was equally genius because it made you feel the tedium of video games.

It's all fine if it's intentional!

To be clear, I have no problem with you looking through all your soldiers, figuring out what was wrong, and then ordering them to the quarantine, even one-by-one. It was just done as badly as they could have possibly done.

Can't sort by language, can't send some soldiers to quarantine for reasons that are not made clear to you, there is no personal factor to just ignoring every name as you scroll through simply looking for the word "Kikongo" and then resenting those people because fuck you I have 600 soldiers stop making me do this you fucking hack.

Edit: Whoops this was supposed to be an edit.

I threw everyone minus my Support Team into quarantine and stormed through the main missions to resolve the issue. I didn't mentally suffer. I didn't even care. Hell, I didn't even care when a few soldiers died. It's so easy to just go fulton four dozen more to replace them, plus all the people I had in the waiting room to replace them. It was a mild annoyance at best.

Yeah Kojima is soooooooo damn smart. Truly genius design right there.

lol

Shooting to stop a murder and no fancy gunplay. The worst

Edit: He's supposed to be a cool dirt bag. Ocelot murders someone in every game.

The Skulls fights are so bad its unreal. I've died 30 times to them on Extreme now and I'm tearing my hair out.

So you have this awesome stealth game. You want to make a boss battle. How about:
-An enemy that can't be stealthed, that you have to go full rambo on
-That regenerates health (armor) if you aren't constantly shooting it
-That disappears when you shoot it and can warp behind you
-That appears from the side while you are aiming whereby you have to quickly enter a button prompt (R2) or probably die, effectively introducing a QTE into the battle
-That can summon bombs that have an instant-kill blast radius of TWICE what appears on screen, so you can often die without ever having seen one
... and
-Let's make it FOUR of them

I just can't even fucking fathom what he was thinking here. I just can't. Every single time I've gotten stuck in this game it's to these guys. Mission 16, mission 28, mission 37, now mission 48. Every time. And they're programmed to eliminate any potential weakness immediately, so it's not a fight you can 'figure out'. D-Walker lasts mere seconds. They take out emplacements immediately. If you go on the roof they hide.

It isn't fun, there are no clever solutions, it isn't Metal Gear, it's just bullshit. Man, fuck the skulls.

do you want my easy strategy?

Go on the smaller roof(s) to the left of the start point. They only pop up to melee you and you can easily counter. All you have to do is avoid the easily avoidable rock bomb attack they have

Get D-Walker.
Level Up it's weapons.
Equip it with a Gatling Gun.
Unleash righteous fury on those fuckers.

I also recommend positioning yourself in the hangar with D-Walker when you start off so they can't flank you. D-Walker also allows you to beat Saelenthropous on EXTREME pretty easily as well. Again, use the Gatling Gun.

I remember after getting some of the wandering mother base soldiers and briging their pictures to Paz I got some weird cutscene.

Like she was all serious, her voice was deeper and Ocelot shows up and its all like "Now she won't respond to anyone but you"

That didn't ammount to anything, exit the room came back and she was as she had always been.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8qQ6MOi1ATY enjoy.
Stand exactly where I stand and snipe away. There's a 10% chance one might teleport on the roof, but chances are very slim and by then you should have annihilated a few.

Well there's the answer. Let me get back to you if it works, and thanks in advance. I've been using heavy machine guns, which mean I have to open myself to damage and bombs in order to get at them and keep running out of ammo and faffing with resupplies.

It's funny because the position you choose as 'the best' is one I have found on my own as the safest. I just couldn't do enough damage.

They eliminate D-Walker in seconds. They all just run and jump on him immediately. I will agree he's great for Sahelanthropus, though.

I find those fights so fun though. Using the environment to avoid their gun fire, setting traps, countering their melee attacks and retaliating. It's a lot of fun. I never found them hard either.

In half of the missions you can stealth past them and in Metallic Archaea you just have to bring the heavy artillery (i.e. a machinegun and battle dress). Using the roof is boring, facing them on foot is where it's at.

I was using a rocket launcher in the Begining and it took me forever. Then, on a whim, I tried the Brennan. Best weapon on the Skulls, especially if you're head-shotting them

Right, but when the game emphasizes letting the player approach a situation however they please, you can see why a fight that is made 1000% more difficult for players who have invested in nonlethal weaponry might be a cause of annoyance for some.

Metallic Archaea and Mission 45 both throw huge curveballs at players who play a certain way, when the rest of the game takes care not to do that.

Who hates the game? Adults are in this thread having grown-up discussion critiquing a game that most of us enjoyed to some extent. Just because you critique something doesn't mean you hated it.
Yeah, I don't hate the game. Disappointed? Sure. But it's a good game, just not GOTY for me. That honor belongs to Bloodborne.

To be fair to him, I think some of us do hate the game. And it does figure.
I mean, hate is just a strong word to throw around. I can't imagine that the majority of people feel that way. There's a general feeling of disappointment, surely.

Lol, case in point. Disappointment it is.

At least they're not as bad as Deus Ex HR's boss fights when you were playing full stealth. Lord almighty those sucked. But yeah the first time I did the transport mission, I had zero lethal weapons developed besides the default AR. Had to go back and develop a ton of shit for it, then stupidly realized I could just hijack a tank.

Man I keep listening to both Beautiful Mirage tracks and thinking about how sad the whole Paz storyline was. Say...peace. :'(((((

So everyone hates this game now? Figures.

I hate it was mismanaged and that the story fell flat. I love the gameplay, freedom of infiltration, the emotions I felt when Quiet left, and what few cinematics there were. "WHOOOOOOO" is going down as one of the best Metal Gear line reads. I wouldn't put so much time into something I hated. But it has flaws and is a disappointing swan song to the series.

Help.

Currently stuck in side op 143 (extract the AI pod). Found the building but all the doors are lock. Can't go inside and meet the person inside.

So everyone hates this game now? Figures.

I don't hate this game. I don't hate any game. Ever.

But it was a massive disappointment. It is the only Metal Gear Solid game that I don't intend to replay any time soon. I just find no reason to. Gameplay was fun for several hours but then it became repetitive and dull. And the plot, the main reason why I play Metal Gear games, is just not there.

Help.

Currently stuck in side op 143 (extract the AI pod). Found the building but all the doors are lock. Can't go inside and meet the person inside.

Are you sure you are in the correct building?

person? ;p you sure you're at the right one?

doors could be locked if you're still stuck during an alarm.... thought they still open but that could be another reason...
