WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Defense Department has found an email chain that Hillary Clinton did not give to the State Department, the State Department said on Friday, despite her saying she had provided all work emails from her time as secretary of state.

The correspondence with General David Petraeus, who was commander of U.S. Central Command at the time, started shortly before she entered office and continued during her first days as the top U.S. diplomat in January and February of 2009.

Yes, this is a big fucking deal before people start trying to say it isnt.

Well, she's not a Republican so obviously people will say she's one of the good ones.

I agree with you it's a big deal. How much of a big deal it is to the average American is up in the air.

Also, 30,000 work emails deemed of a personal nature that she withheld? What was she doing?

Since when does she owe anyone emails from before she was Secretary of State ? She's already acknowledged not handing over any emails from her first 2 months btw (as mentioned in the article) as they weren't hosted on her server

It's mainly about reinforcing the view she is dishonest. She said she wasn't even using the private email server at the time of this email chain, and apparently despite providing all the work emails to the Justice Department it turns out that she didn't.

Is she going to prison?

Can Obama pardon her on his way out?

C'mon man, it's not like she committed human trafficking for sex across state lines, nor did she steal customer deposits. Besides she probably did not know, not like she is a lawyer.

They're not work emails if they're personal emails, no?

I mean, a lot of the emails she handed over aren't technically 'work' emails either, like people sending her pictures of Putin and her sending back a "pls print".

This is the real question

What's the worst case scenario if she were to be punished in some way?

I swear, this whole thing is like bitcoins. The more people explain it to me, the less I understand.

Something substantial has to come from her emails for people to take it seriously. Unless it is 100% proven that her emails caused someone to get killed or she is going to jail for breaking a law, nobody is going to give a shit about this that isn't already trying to tear Clinton down.

Don't understand how people can say this isn't a big deal.

This situation is being investigated by the FBI. How does that not constitute a big deal?

Yep, like are we supposed to be upset that she didn't want us to know she was sending I can has cheezburger pics on her work email? I'm sorry, 99.9% of American people are too busy looking for change in the couch cushions to give a flying fuck about her emails.

I really don't understand how she is still running. Her judgement in this whole thing has been terrible from start to finish.

It's not a big deal thus far in the context of her bid in the presidency, because the only people that care didn't liked her that much in the first place. I doubt many Clinton supporters jumped away when the emails came up. It's just too low key. The public needs something of substance to get angry.

She is currently the candidate most people believe to win. She has the strongest support in the democratic party and seeing the clowncar on the other side with Trump as best runner atm, she might have a very good chance to win the election. Of course many things may change over the year of course.

She might win the Democrats but if you don't think this is a solid weapon to bludgeon the public view of her judgement and competence then you've got your head in the sand.

Misread your post initially. Sorry. I would assume that the general public simply doesn't give a crap. Not surprising really.

Anyone who knows me by now should realize I have absolutely no business discussing U.S politics (90% of what I say on it is nonsense tbh) but I am certain that your average voter could not give less of a shit about email servers. It's the content that matters, so until there's a smoking gun, I'd cool it.

C'mon man, it's not like she committed human trafficking for sex across state lines, nor did she steal customer deposits. Besides she probably did not know, not like she is a lawyer.

She went to Yale Law. She was a partner at the law firm she worked for.

It really depends on what her definition of work entailed. As a politician and as Sec. Of State, I'd assume that line blurs.

She has a weak Democratic field to compete against. Based on name recognition alone, she'll win the nomination.

Plus, first female President.

Show me a current GOP presidential candidate that held elected office and doesn't have their own private email problem

I just don't understand how people don't see this is a big deal. What she did is insane. The Secretary of State using a personal email address for work, sending and receiving classified information? This is something that just can't happen.

She's either incredibly stupid, or in deep on some very dodgy shit.

Unless the Republicans can point to her emails getting someone killed directly, nobody is going to give a shit about this. Show me the consequences of what she did wrong? What are they? That is the problem with this whole thing when people say it is going to matter.

The People obviously need a new Benghazi phantom.
Article's got you covered
Jamal Ware, spokesman for the House Select Committee on Benghazi, which wants all Clinton emails concerning the 2012 attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, said the committee would not have a detailed comment until it had received and reviewed the emails.
Some other highlights: the results of a Fox news poll, the existence of email sent before Clinton's term as Secretary of State

Out of curiousity, how do you believe her predessecors handles their email?

This won't turn a single democrat away to vote republican.

Ah the old "Republicans can't statistically win ever"; I wonder if Americans ever think that if that is true then it shows the huge issues with a two party state.

Look; all the people who voted Obama are not hard nosed Democrats. He got through the first election on hope and the second on basically more of the same. People don't like the uncertain but next election both presidents will offer uncertainty - its a much more level playing field.

This will do harm and if the other candidate makes themselves look more competent and with better judgement - you really believe some Democrats might not move over considering their choosing a commander in chief rather than their representative?

Its not about how it makes her look; its about how the other person can use this to contrast themselves.

As long as she didn't get anyone killed. That's fine.

Its simply this - she should have known better. The impact? Was potential impact from security or a lack of audit over her email files. And announcing you handed everything over only for the government to find new internal ones? That's exactly why this is bad - it was poor judgement that now leaves an incomplete audit trail which in turn creates doubt.

Again to most she did nothing wrong but at the same time should have known better for someone in her position. That's where it can be used against her.

The exchange of 10 or so emails, the existence of which were first reported by the Associated Press on Friday, largely dealt with personnel issues, according to the State Department.

Really now... I'm so outraged that 10 or so personnel emails weren't handed over
