Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Didn’t Matt Dahlgren explicitly say that there are going to be 8 expected/classic/familiar characters, 4 newcomers, and 4 characters “we haven’t seen in a while”? Those numbers match up perfectly to the color-coded picture. Separating Alpha from the rest of the series seems really arbitrary to me.
As stated before he consideres Alex and Urien classic.

Looking back at all the characters revealed so far, i have to say that Vega was my favorite reveal. Always wanted to play that character, but i dont like charge characters alot, now that he has motions i cant wait to play him.

Cammy on the other hand... probably the biggest disappointment.

I think it makes much more sense to expect 8 Street Fighter IV characters and 8 fresh characters. It's an even mix.
He did, but we've been bending over backwards to interpret that in any way that leaves room for Alex.

We should be friends

Prediction: Laura at Brazil Duh
NYCC: Beta release date annoucement.
Paris psx event: another character
Capcom cup/psx: the remaining characters/final beta.

Yes, but obviously Matt Dahlgren isn't going to just give away two character reveals like that. Alex and Urien fit the "characters we haven't seen in a while" group better than the "expected, classic character" group. I'm sure Matt would also consider Nash and Birdie classic characters.

Thanks for the heads-up. Then we'll have to wait until October 8th for our next reveal, who will likely be Laura.

No problem, and we should be getting the full showcase of her stage. I am expecting also them teasing a little of Rachid's stage as well.

Just a beta announcement for NYCC? That's kinda wack. Isn't NYCC on par with PAX and Comic Con SD if not bigger?

They could start moving towards giving us more info. Laura showcase, more comics, story preview, modes and features, release date, that kind of stuff.

I'll bet money on a reveal at NYCC

Well Alex was in TVC which came out in 08 which isnt as long as the last time we saw Birdie or Nash which was the 90s

Why? They always reveal characters at NYCC. Ono ain't flying right from Brazil to talk about beta info. Like I said I'll put money on it.

Also a New Yorker

My only reason is that I feel alex is such a huge reveal what better way to close out the capcom cup with him hype levels thru the roof! With only a few months until release and everyone is in a state if buzz. Unless capcom wants to close it out with a villian like Urien. I want alex to be revealed here in his hometown but with Laura being revealed a few days earlier I'm skeptical that's all.

Would they really reveal a DLC character this early? I could see December, but October?

The next few weeks will be super fun people who are indifferent about SFIII like me. I amma sit back and watch the salt and celebrations.

I already gave up on my man Cody showing up :(

Me too. Vega was my "it'll never happen" dream choice and he's there and looking better than ever, so the rest of the roster will be exciting no matter what.

This is why I said "wait for the swerve" upthread.

He knows what that question really was. His answer isn't proof of anything but the fact he knows we're getting really deep into super-parsing every syllable spoken about these character reveals.

I could see Alex and Urien as the first batch of DLC. If Capcom is smart, they will start showing DLC characters before release.

Which would be the biggest upsets? Iirc people love their upsets. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Rufus + Fuerte.

Though as a Blanka main, I am biased.

if they confirm whether the NYCC reveal is Friday or Saturday, I might actually pull through for that one day. the beta phase 2 might kinda satisfy my SFV itch and make me disinclined to waste the time/money, but playing the latest build with Alex and seeing the announcement live might be cool.... (imagine if he doesn't turn up tho LOL).

It's supposed to be on Saturday, no? At least I recall reading that the SFV panel would be on the 10th

I think you answered your own question with Urien. Alex makes sense for NYCC because Capcom tends to do NYCC reveals, and Alex himself is from New York, right down to his theme being "Jazzy NYC" (Which better return; I'd flip my lid if they slowly build up to a remix in his trailer).

Meanwhile, unless Zen's an even greater antagonist, Urien's a big, villainous note we can end on. He's a returning character with a surprising number of fans, and we know the Illuminati is tied to the plot, so from a lore and a hype perspective, Urien would be a great way to wrap up the Capcom Cup.

I believe Capcom will have 2 or more surprises at Capcom Cup/PSX. One or more during PSX, and the other before top 8.

Wether or not the surprises are all related to SFV, I don't know. I say this because I am feeling a Versus type game getting teased there, much like how SFV was shown last year.

It would be a mistake on Capcom's part. You don't want to cannibalize hype. Plenty of people would drop SFV and wait for the Versus game. Possibly even myself. Plus, where is the funding coming from?

I think next year's Capcom Cup prize pool will be one of the surprises at this year's Capcom Cup just like last year.
