yea, I don't think he's blind but rather his vision has been impaired from being mistreated and tortured. I think he basically can't look at things without his sunglasses anymore.

There are several degrees of blindness. It is possible he can see some in short distances but is still functionally blind.
Yeah, this is probably the case. If he lost his limbs in an explosion, the searing light from it might've been what weakened his eyes. Just speculation on my part, though.

Yeah, his eyes did have a strange tint to them (like they were damaged) but he didn't act like a person that couldn't see at all.

I'm confused about this statement. There is no possibility. Kaz flat out said it he hated Big Boss for leaving him out of the loop in the post-credits scene in Phantom Pain. Did you watch that?

He still receives me from time to time at mother base, talks to me on the radio and sang in my birthday!

Trauma-induced cataracts / retinal detachment might make sense. Though it did seem like they were building up to a 'parasite infection' subplot with Code Talker's comments, and the similarities between their eyes - it would have been plausible for his first encounter with the Skulls to have played some part in it.

I think there was more to it regarding miller's eyes like when venom asked him if the soviets did something to his eyes and the way he answered sounded like a lie.
Also, code talker's parasites saying that Venom should keep an eye on him.

yea, they seemed to have hinted at something involving the parasites but didn't go further with it.

Oh, good point. Yeah, Code Talker mentioned the "Eyes of Kazuhira." Must've been going somewhere with that but it got lost in development. (Not hatin', just sayin')

I wouldn't be surprised if they had something planned but then dropped it during development.

Someone should call Kaz's VA and ask him what lines he recorded that were cut.

"The lines I've lost..."

I see where you're coming from, but I think most of what seems "inconsistent" is just Kaz deferring to Big Boss. Their opinions don't always align, but he generally gives BB the benefit of the doubt.

He's the XO (even though he acts more like a Vice Commander), so he's supposed to abide by the commands of his CO.

What's inconsistent about him is how his character has consistently backstabbed the person he supposedly wants everything form. In Peace Walker, he formed a business alliance with Cipher and kept it hidden from Big Boss. He outright tell you he will let Quiet get killed when you choose to bring her back to Mother Base. Half the things he does are stepping on the toes of his CO. Of course the dude gets abandoned by BB, he was a sneaky, lying fuck with an agenda from the get go.

His introduction and character development in PW was a series of bad decisions, IMO.

It was "Message from the parasites. Eyes on Kazuhira".

Pretty sure he was just telling Venom to be cautious of Miller.

Everyone in Venom's think-tank seems to overstep their boundaries (Kaz and Ocelot), but where Kaz is concerned, he ultimately cools his jets on each confrontation.

He hates Big Boss, not Venom Snake. You're Venom Snake in The Phantom Pain. He vowed to help you and the clones in an attempt to kill the real Big Boss.

Why?

He was a Drill Sergeant at the Big Boss led FOXHOUND. That's where he met Solid Snake.

Roy Campbell was the leader of Fox Hound when Miller joined.

Exactly. He says Big Boss can go to hell and he'll make his phantom and sons stronger to send him there. And he also tells Ocelot they'll go back to coexisting (Kaz and Ocelot) until the inevitable power struggle where only one BB is needed. At that point, they'll take different sides and there will be blood.

My point is, Miller eventually abandons Phantom Big Boss once Phantom goes and takes the reins of Outer Heaven.

Prolly there is a formal disolution of Diamond Dogs once OG Big Boss goes back to America to become the head of Foxhound. I assume Venom takes his best DD men with him to the african base.

At that point Miller doesn't follow either Big Boss, so the whole "vow to help Venom and the clones to kill Big Boss" is super moot.

The weird part is that Miller is supposed to be a boot camp trainer at Foxhound, where he trained Solid, and then OG Big Boss was also at Foxhound, and sent Solid to Outer Heaven...which means that Miller and OG Big Boss actually worked together after his vow? e: I think Miller was hired by Campbell, not OG Big Boss. But there he is not helping Venom, just Solid.

Yeah, this is probably what happens next. Kaz sticks with Venom for a while but ultimately grows disillusioned there, as well. But through it all he keeps his eye on the man who betrayed him, Big Boss.

The trailers lied to us and not in a good way.

Skull Face's sans lingua franca speech is on a car ride, deprived of the epic tone the trailers gave. Implied Big Boss would murder kids, didn't. Implied Zero would be involved in the story. Only through tapes. Burnt battlefield and covered in blood? Not in the game. Les Enfants Terribles? Here's Liquid! Bye, Liquid. Those that don't exist? They existed. Big Boss will fall into hell and become like Skull Face? Nah.

At that point he is aiding Solid under Patriot orders. In the end, Kaz's allegiences lied with Zero.

that whole jeep ride with Skull Face was hilarious. I was basically circling the camera during some of those parts of the song and it looked like a romantic scene.

I'm really fucking bummed out that Big Boss did not murder ANY children in this game. Not one!

What the fuck was up with that marketing, Kojima? I want as many story details as possible spoiled before the game comes out.

Honestly, Kaz was probably my favorite character in the end.

Many of the characters in MGSV have flat personalities — they fit a certain role, and that's fine — but Kaz is an emotional rollercoaster.

Seething anger one moment, thoughtful reflection the next. Restless paranoia and genuine frustration. Teary-eyed and in awe of the boss ("A shining light to our brothers-in-arms, even in death") and then bitter with betrayal ("The boss can go to hell, and I'll make his phantom and his sons stronger to send him there").

He's consumed by anger and seems like the most fitting application of that Mark Twain quote they used to promote the game — the whole bit about anger doing more harm to the vessel it's stored in than the object on which it's poured. He's one unhappy dude, and kind of an emotional masochist, refusing bionic limbs just to remember the men he lost. But he's not completely joyless, as we see from his fervor to create the perfect burger. :-)

Just a great character all-around. I love every scene he's in.
Yeah, Kaz is like my favorite character now. I've always liked him but TPP Kaz is amazing.
It's sad seeing him go from his cheery PW self to what he is in TPP.
The only thing TPP did to Kaz that I hate is change his glasses from aviators to those dumb product placement JF Reyes. And the change happened during the end of development after we had seen trailers with his superior glasses.

"Not enough murdered children. 1/10." -- Robotrock

(Just teasin' :-P)

MG Wiki says Campbell hired Miller as trainer after Campbell takes over Foxhound, following the events of MG1 where Big Boss is fired from Foxhound given his...conflicts of interests.

Stop with this NTR fanfic shit.

Miller x Venom <3<3<3
I thought Kaz and Venom were going to kiss when Venom gets back in the chopper after beating Sahelanthropus

Also, I get the impression Ocelot totally has the hots for BB

#NotThatTheresAnythingWrongWithThat

no jeep ride with Miller. way less romantic.
Obviously cut content. Kojimaaa!!

Miller and Venom had extreme chemistry. Every time they touched, every time they looked each other deep in the eyes and the way they held each other when they shot Skulface together, literally hand in hand. Of course that bum Huey ruined the date,

I've said this before, but I absolutely think that jeep scene would have been improved if you were given a Mass Effect-style interruption.

Like maybe leave it until after Skull Face is done talking, but have a prompt on-screen to just kill him there and then have to make it to the Power Plant to blow up the Metal Gear on full alert across the entire map. If you choose not to take it, you drive the entire way. But this would give people the option to kill Skull Face with the downside of making the next part way harder.

I was checking out the sweet sweet stats on the XOF soldiers, but alas, I had no chance to fulton them.

But then you could not get the cutscene where they flesh out Huey's character as he delivers the final blow to Skullface!

I was so disappointed that Skulflace didn't have faux stats.

I love this idea from a gameplay standpoint, but from a story standpoint I like the unceremonious death we got -- fits with the idea of revenge not being fulfilling.

Maybe you can reconcile the two by shooting him in the Jeep, and then later finding him bleeding out in the desert where Kaz can shoot his limbs off.

Roy Campbell was the leader of Fox Hound when Miller joined.

Miller was a drill instructor. He participated in Solid Snake's training at FOXHOUND, that's how the two know each other.

Campbell gets Miller in as a consultant during MG2 as a "Hey, Snake, you know this guy".

You should have been able to press triangle to "Kept you waitin', Haah" just like with Kaz early in the game.

It's crazy how Diamond Dogs soldiers just let Huey wander around and do whatever he wants, especially in a situation where he should under no circumstances be allowed to walk off the plane unsupervised, get behind Miller and Snake, and pick up a sawed-off shotgun without a single person noticing.

Have we considered the possibility that the Diamond Dogs are just garbage soldiers

The jeep ride was kind of a mind blown moment for me since I was in media blackout and had no idea that Words That Kill was the theme song. Never heard it.

I think I saw the words at a glance in the iDroid's music player but didn't think much of them. Also had no idea that the singing part from when Venom smokes a cigar to pass time was from this song too.

So when Skull Face was talking in the jeep about language as a weapon and then the song kicks in and she starts singing "Words that Kill", I was all like :o

Not to mention they give him carte blanche to create WMDs. I half-expected him to stomp out of Mother Base in a Metal Gear he made.

Just think what Eli and the kids could do all the time. Truly garbage security, A++ soldiers, my ass.

Honestly I originally thought that whole scene was a bug. I was wondering if credits were supposed to be appearing while Sins of the Father played or something.

Sounds like you got the intended effect. The rest of us were perplexed because we had heard that song repeatedly since 2013 and had already formed certain associations with it.

I had never heard Words that Kill before. If I had, I hadn't made note of the lyrics at all.

I realized the association immediately and went "Huh, neat." No real mind blown moment for me, though.
