Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

I'm sure they know about it, they chose guitar hero, likely for the $, but they had to be played on a terrible tool inspired visualizer. Shit looked like amateur hour for 3D effects artists.

As far as I heard, Tool chose Guitar hero because they required the game to use a custom background, and Harmonix refused to do custom backgrounds for Artists.

The art in the visualizer was based off a cool concept, but I think Neversoft did a poor job of implementing it. Even on X360, it looked like poor-man's PS2-era visuals. This is why I wish Harmonix would implement Tool and do their music justice.

I really don't like the idea of RB4 being a crowdfunding game. There is zero excuse for this game being full price and missing on many basic core features that every single other Rock Band game had.

It's not really being crowdfunded, but if not enough people buy the game and there isn't palpable interest in the dlc after launch I don't think HMX will be able to do much to support/update the game.

This is not the same situation where they had the big publisher backing to get the amazing RB2 setlist, or to do all the crazy new optional stuff they did in RB3.

So much for finding a used guitar $40-60 are you fucking insane?

Supply and demand my man. It's even more sad, since plastic guitars were on massive discount and basically relegated to 'no one loves you anymore' status only last year. If only we had been on the ball, and scooped one or two up a few months back. I'm sure if you browse pawn-shops, some obscure flea market, or find a friend with old Guitars, you can still find one or two for cheap.

EBay is the wrong place to be looking. Craigslist and local thrift shops are a safer bet. Recently found a guy selling two full band sets for $25, though I wasn't able to pick them up in time.

Yea figures, I dropped the ball there, I have a few local pawn shops and a goodwill, i will have to check there. Thank you.

does anyone know what the solution is for 3 mics + ps3 instruments yet?

I'll need a usb hub, i'm guessing?

are the new instruments bluetooth or do they have wireless adapters as well?

I know the rb3 keyboard had a usb dongle that had 2 usb connections for it so you could chain a bunch together

Does anyone know if the Rock Band 4 Stratocaster has a 'clicky' strum bar like the Guitar Hero Guitars? Also does it have those annoying bumps on the frets?

If its got a floppy strum bar and fret bumps I'll be selling my guitar. Luckily a UK retailer mispriced the Guitar bundle with the game for £50 and are honouring it. I'm getting the Legacy Adapter and am likely to use the GH Les Paul anyhow (imo the finest of all GH/RB guitars).

I was originally just going to get $60 in legacy dlc buuuuuuuuuut I'm really feeling the Rock Band 4 fever. Might end up getting the dlc AND the game.

My self control is waning.

No worries, and good luck man. There are definitely Guitars out there for cheap, but in my experience, all the good 'visible' wireless RB guitars (there are still probably thousands of plastic Guitars locked up in people's basements, unused) are getting scooped up fast in anticipation for RB4.

I would also recommend looking for Wireless Guitar Hero Guitars, I'd assume those are more likely to sell slower.

I get the feeling that no matter how well it's going to be reviewed it's going to be one of the games that needs another review in a years time when it's evolved, like GT5 and Driveclub.

More importantly though, any word on Awesome Detection?

It could potentially be a huge engineering, testing, and debugging effort. Remember that every single song, including all the DLC would likely need to be tested, debugged, and supported. Harmonix is likely already swamped, just getting all the existing songs and backwards compatible DLC to function. Perhaps if we support the game, they will find a way to include it.
I didn't think of it that way, but I suppose that's true. I really hope they add practice.

TheGameTechnician said it was in on his stream.

Yes, awesomeness detection needs to return. I literally couldn't play the game without it.

Really, after launch they NEED to show commitment to adding features to reach parity.

A published schedule would be appreciated.

Definitely. I am most curious about online, cause It's not going to take long until I've burned through the single player campaign, hunted most of the trophies and done everything there is to do before just itching after online to continue playing with my friends and meet new people. At this state I don't see the game having a very high sustainability and I'll probably shelve it pretty fast and go back to RB3.

they've announced at the twitch convention that there will be a December update adding a number of features.

It doesn't have the ridge like on the GH guitars but I remember it has a very small dotted indentation, at least from what I remember. Not sure if it's featured on the new guitars, but it's not as pronounced as the GH guitars.

The strum bars are not clicky, but they have a solid tactile feel. Tbh, once I got used to it, I massively preferred it over GH guitars, much easier to maintain rhythm.

Actually, here's a good question, how will the game handle GH guitars for freestyle solos? Since solos use both the main / solo buttons on RB guitars.

There are a lot of standard RB3 features that I'd like patched into RB4. WoR guitar support on PS4, online multiplayer, Rock Band Network songs support, practice mode... Don't know how realistic it is to expect these things since that's the stuff that probably 0.1% of the players are interested in and that's what they seem to be basing their decisions of whether to implement a feature on. Judging by that stream just now, the loading times could use some improvements to get on RB3's level as well...

heh, we have problems selling them for $5 at my store.

Did manage to sell a full rock band 2 kit (360) for $50 at least but yeah ebay is a huge mark up just talk to your local thrift stores and ask them to keep an eye out. My thrift store chain in general just sends the guitars and what not that are donated to be recycled because they haven't been able to move them for a while now and don't realize they will be worth something with rock band 4.

Haha, you just mentioned my whole most wanted list. High five on being in the 0.1% club.

I tend to feel like I am part of the more general audience that they are appealing to, and I care about rock band network songs (I don't give a crap about anything else on your list though aside from maybe load times >.<)

so ideally those will come (at least the ones that came to the ps3 that were basically the best of anyways)

I wish there was a way to get the full band bundle with a digital copy. I'm willing to buy all new instruments (my old wired drums aren't supported anyway), but I'm not about discs these days.

I didn't think of it that way, but I suppose that's true. I really hope they add practice.

I can't see any other reason they would cut it. I imagine it was a lot more feasible to add when they were creating everything piece by piece. Of course, there's always the chance that they could port over the practice mode code, and it would work with only general bugs, but I couldn't see them shipping it without fully testing it on every song. Perhaps cutting this feature for now will help them release DLC faster than they would otherwise.

I'm playing some Rock Band 3 and I'd like to rescind previous statements about how much I'd like to export the soundtrack. I forgot that it had bangers like One Armed Scissor on there and, damn, I'm going to miss them.

So, decided to take advantage of the sale on previous DLC before HMX raise the prices back up after RB4 releases. Bought a shit ton of songs at 65p each. Some for artist song completion purproses, and some songs that I'm not even that keen on but would be good for parties...

Wind Me Up - Ghost Hounds
Rockstar - Nickelback
Burn It To The Ground - Nickelback
This Is It - Staind
Trouble Comes Running - Spoon
I Turn My Camera On - Spoon
Don't You Evah - Spoon

Also, buy "Burn It To The Ground", I know it's a Nickelback song, but the bass chart is godlike!

I'm unsure on this game still. The news about the lack of features is disheartening, though the major loss is online which I never use.

Is DLC bought on another XBL account going to transfer properly? I have a new one so I'm worried my Xbox One will not get a new license.

They've been hinting that online may be coming post launch sooner than we think.

Wait there's no practice mode? That's some serious bullshit.

There is no way for me to actually play the game now. There is no MIDI adapter support and I'm not buying a set of plastic drums when I have e-drums that work fine with the old games.

At the very least I could have used practice mode to play along with using my own drum sounds but now I would be stuck failing during actual play which will mean the crowd will boo the whole time.

That's awful. I may have to stick with RB3 until they add that mode back in and/or make a compatible MIDI adapter.
