but let's talk about the misuse of the word "trilogy" because that is not what it means
No, it is completely correct. It is a set of three works of art that are connected. They can be seen separately or as one single work. It will be wrong once they add a fourth show, but that might be the start of a second trilogy.

NBC made a HUGE mistake by not having the backlog of the Chicagoverse on any streaming service. How am I supposed to watch the modern day equivalent to Return of The Jedi if I haven't seen the first two installments?

Viewers call the Chicago franchise "the most realistic and emotional depiction of civil services I have ever seen."
"Chicago Med made me believe that healthcare is not only a human right but a human triumph."

Seems like Blindspot is a hit... and I wouldn't get too attached to Minority Report

"Minority Report couldn't predict own murder by Fox." I can see the thread title change already.

The pilot was horrendous, and I tried watching the second episode on Hulu earlier. It was better, but still not something I would miss.

I'm super sad about Minority Report. The film is one of my favorites, and I really wanted a show in that universe I could watch every week. :(

Hopefully Limitless follows Minority Report to an early grave. Just Cause.

I haven't watched either, but it sounds like Limitless is doing a much better job of the "movie becomes tv show" thing than Minority Report. The premise alone is much more interesting IMO.

Quantico for some reason gives me Traveler vibes and then in return depresses me that Traveler was canceled.

Man I haven't thought about Traveler in forever. I thought I was the only person that watched that show and liked it. This makes me want to watch Quantico more (although the fact that the lead is one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen doesn't hurt).

I'm really trying to like Minority Report but it's not grabbing me. I liked Almost Human's future + partner dynamics better. Good thing I'm not too attached because it looks dead in the water.

this year so far i have liked most of the show's i watched the pilot for.

the player was ok
Liked Blindspot- my only nitpick isn't with the show perse, its with Jane...specifically her face, i don't know why, but i do not like how she has her face, esp the eyebrow spacing/how they look? (i'm a guy the extent i know about eyebrows is...they are there)

that is about the only thing i dislike about the show,,, i'm pathetic...

You can't have a trilogy with three on going television series with the way in which we understand the word trilogy in modern media.

My father called me to let me know how much of a rip off The Player is. He thinks they're shamefully ripping off Person of Interest? To those who watch both is that true?

I've heard from others on twitter saying the same thing, about it and Blindspot.

To the extent of "there's an all-powerful machine and they've tapped into every computer/camera/security system everywhere ever" yes. But what they do with that is completely different. The Player is basically an action movie while Person of Interest is a methodical techno-thriller that's much more nuanced. I liked The Player pilot a lot, but mostly because Wesley Snipes chewed the scenery and it scratched the itch of senseless action that looked cool.

I don't see why not, there is nothing in the meaning of the word saying you can't. It is just that it is most often used for movies and books, which for economical reasons don't get released at once.

Pretty much this. I enjoyed Minority Report the movie better than Limitless, but I couldn't connect with the series and found Limitless more engaging.

Nah. Person of Interest is active versus The Player's passive. The machine(s) in PoI have been programmed with a directive in mind and they try to complete it with the help of their human avatars. The way it does that is more involved than anything The Player is trying or will be able to do.

With The Player their system is just a passive surveillance tool that has been continuously upgraded as security has upgraded throughout the decades. It still needs human interaction to be effective. I would say The Player as a whole is a just an updated gladiator pit.

Uh, no. You're just arguing semantics. They essentially do the same thing as a story engine. Predictive crime seems to be the new shit these days. Anyway, re: The Player, it's a surveillance apparatus that can predict crime, that's nothing new vs. POI. I actually don't know what you mean by one being active, the other passive.

In POI they use it as a means to stop crime before it happens.

In The Player they use it as a means to stop crime before it happens. It just so happens the people using said apparatus mean to profit from it. Also you're comparing a show with 80+ episodes vs. a pilot, so there's your problem too.

Because they're sequels to each other. That's not what the Chicago Thing is.

- Vulture: Nicki Minaj Lands ABC Family Sitcom About Her Childhood.
Nicki Minaj will produce a comedy series for ABC Family based on her childhood in Queens, the network announced today. The currently untitled project is expected to explore Minaj's experience growing up as an immigrant from Trinidad in the '90s, and will tell the tale of "the personal and musical evolution that lead to her eventual rise to stardom." According to the network, Minaj will "also appear in" the single-camera series, though the extent of her role is unknown. Will she have an actual part, or will she just narrate it, à la Everybody Hates Chris? Either way, we hope TV Nicki's high school is safer than Drake's.
I... twerk it might work.

I'm on Ivysaur's side with this one. It's more of a triumvirate than a trilogy, if anything. I think NBC's marketing department was looking for the word triumvirate.

Sensing sarcasm, but they really did mess that up. One of the shows...............I guess PD crossed over with SVU. Sparked a little bit of interest. But Hulu only had like the recent 5 of season 3 or only S3 and I didn't bother to check it out since I couldn't from season 1.

Blindspot is nothing like PErson of Interest. Like, at all. what the fuck

If you look at their core, they both use something (a tattoo, or a number) obtained from outside to predict and prevent crime. At least as far as their pilots go. PoI evolved into much more than that, we don't know where Blindspot is going yet.

It doesn't matter how they get the info about their cases IMO, just that they do.

I was addressing what Exploratory's dad was saying that it's a rip off. At the base, yea they do similar things, but they are not one in the same. It's like saying Blue Bloods is a rip off of Law & Order because they both have cops in the show. I don't know how much his/her dad has watched of PoI, but I don't see the system in The Player becoming much of a character as the machine does in PoI. If you don't recognize how the machine is active versus the other system's passiveness then I wonder if you watch much of Person of Interest.

There is also no problem comparing a 4+ season show with a pilot when someone is asking about a direct comparison.

So is this like Fox's worst debut for a new show? Those are some really bad numbers.

It's not even the worst Fox Monday debut/second episode in recent years once you account for the how the ratings landscape has changed in that time. It'll be hard for any show to top the impact crater left behind by Lone Star's massive bomba back in 2010. It had a 4.2 lead in from House and only got a 1.3 demo and ratings were so much better in 2010.

Guessing the premieres for tonight...

Agents of SHIELD 1.3
Grandfathered 1.2
The Grinder 0.9

And for the shows airing their second episodes tonight...

The Muppets 1.9
Limitless 1.7
Scream Queens 1.1

if we are going to boil down every show to their core, then every show is the same show.

Silicon Valley is exactly the same as Big Bang Theory I guess. Its a group of nerds who can be called friends living in a house and have wacky hijinks.

Maybe I am 12 years old mentally, but did no one point out the problems with the name "Grinder"? Like there might be a lot of cross tweeting of some very different subjects.
