Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Oh, you mean the game you brought up? Give me a fucking break. I suppose it's fine for you to talk about how bad it is?

Anyway, I'm doing my big RB DLC purchasing tomorrow. Any recommendation for sale songs?
The Judas Priest album is one of my favorite DLC packs. If its still up, grab it. Its fun on all instruments

I disagree whole heartedly

I'd disagree to your disagreement.

The monumental task it must be to convert all the old DLC (updated with the new features and provided at no extra cost), AND get the majority of last gen controllers to work can't be overstated. I think most people would agree these two points alone, despite being pie in the sky fantasy requests, would also be the biggest dealbreakers for a lot of people if either didn't happen.

It sucks that a lot of smaller features are being cut for launch but, considering those two points, and the fact that they're working on a tighter budget in a uniquely difficult genre (requiring expensive production of physical accessories), I'm willing to forgive them not being there at launch especially since they'll probably get patched in later (it also helps I never really used 95% of the cut features lol).

When have I ever said it was "bad"? I said I don't trust Activision and their practices. A good example is the abomination of a game that just came out today. Clearly they care so much about games not called Call of Duty.

Off the top of my head, there's some real good Hendrix stuff you can get cheap (the whole Axis album), some Motley Crue songs that are super fun (Kickstart My Heart, Dr. Feelgood, Saints of Los Angeles), Judas Priest (Electric Eye, Bloodstone, You've Got Another Thing Comin), the whole Boston album, Rush's Moving Pictures album.

Oh, Pearl Jam's Ten is great.

I'm assuming you mean Screaming for Vengeance, and I was looking at that. British Steel would be nice too but live is a little bit of a turn off.

Nice, really good stuff available. Only problem is getting stuff everyone wants to play. I have no chance of getting my friends to play that stuff.

I have the entire British Steel album and it's pretty good, I think. Really fun to play, especially on guitar. Some of the vocal stuff is a little wonky (like there's nothing in the chorus of Breaking the Law where the crowd is obviously singing) but Halford sounds pretty good on the tracks.

I trust Priest to put out good live material, but it's the principle of it! Hell, the live Iron Maiden tracks are great, shouldn't be a problem.

Ok.

Man those are GIVENS, any other rock band game from one to the next the instruments worked, the DLC works, the platform change is not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be at all. They operated on 5 platforms before, how is that any different from now?

It's a given to have your old instruments on another console that uses different wireless technologies to work on a new console? It's a big task that they had to undertake for it to work. It's not just a simple flick of a switch.

lol the Xbox is literally the only console they had to create a new wireless adapter for, everything else is plug and play. Wow they made an adapter, how cool, harmonix deserves at least 4 full paychecks.

Yes Microsoft. A company so anal about their systems and technologies, actually did something good. And with Sony they also had to get USB drivers to work. So once again, its not a walk in the park with this stuff.

Once again, harmonix is not new to working with multiple platforms, it's their job, it's not fucking miracle work like you seem to think.

And now you're taking digs at Sony, trying to bring console wars into the thread now? I'm done with this conversation.

It's more like you have no idea how much time it takes to get that stuff done.

Lol what console wars. Can you even read? You said it was plug and play on Sony's side, and no, they had to work with Sony to get the instruments to work. I have a PS4 and an Xbox One. Please don't accuse me of being a console fanboy.

They were givens within the same console generation. If you told someone it would be a GIVEN that their 360 or PS3 controllers were going to work on the next gen when it's only JUST recently been a possibility on PS4 under the right circumstances, you would have got crazy stares back in response. DLC isn't quite as crazy but considering the sheer quantity, and the fact that they all have to be essentially remade and updated for the new game doesn't make it nearly the same.

The amount of people who hung onto their instruments alone makes it a given.

Ha, are people really downplaying what Harmonix has had to do with this title? A company that used to be 300 employees owned by a giant parent company is now under 100 employees and independent. Updating and submitting 1500 songs through MS/Sony QA again in time for launch and trying to get their own + third-party controllers for old consoles working with the new ones is not something that just happens when someone snaps their fingers.

I imagine HMX is used to the armchair devs telling em how easy it is to do whatever they want.

Both games have their merits and downsides. They have both cut stuff missing from their last games as well. They are different enough to the point that I don't understand people's need to say one is better than the other.

Because the game would be dead on arrival if they expected people to pay £110 for the pissing guitar bundle.

Not following. The way Terrordactyl is using the word "given" suggests he/she expects it to be there because it was there before in previous iterations (because he/she is somehow ignorant of how big a task that is moving to this gen).

Dreams - Van Halen with the crowd singing the entire intro....drools
I don't think we're ever going to get Hagar-era :( Which is a bummer because there are quite a few tracks from that era I would love to have. Would honestly love 2 mega DLC packs with one being Roth focused songs and the other being Hagar.

You think they'll have any Sammy Haggar era songs for dlc?

They didn't even have any Hagar era in an entire music game dedicated to Van Halen. His solo stuff or Montrose, maybe, but there is no way any Hagar Halen is getting in. Same with no Bayley Iron Maiden ever getting in (although they did sneak in some DiAnno).

Edit: This GameGrumps stream has already convinced me that freestyle solos are going off and staying off forever.

Kinda shitty how VH just ignores that half of their catalogue.

I'll give the freestyle solos a try, but I'm leaning to turning them off as well.

Eh. It usually happens for most bands that get a new singer for a bit and then the original comes back. It's a bit different for Iron Maiden because DiAnno was the original singer, but I don't believe they ever play music from the Bayley era.

but freestyle guitar solos are so awesome when you know what you're doing :(

They probably are when your solo fits the song. The guitarist on the stream stuck half a minute of shredding into Spiders and it sounded dumb as fuck.

I will be able to go pick up the game at opening next Tuesday. I will have a few hours to play before going to work and getting to meet Neil Gaiman that night.
Then I am off for two days in a row. It will be a good week.

I can see how that would turn you off the idea. OK, new rule, none of my friends are allowed to freestyle guitar solo.

Guyssssssssss coooooommmmmeeee ooooonnnnnnnn....

I think I'm gonna like Career but at the same time I hope an updated World Tour gets added in. Also is Washington D.C. in the game yet?

Does anyone know if there's going to be an RB store client on the game itself the way there was with past games?

I'm hoping that if there is, that will ease the pain of manually downloading all previously bought songs. At least that way there's a chance of just sorting through the RB store instead of navigating a monstrous purchase list on the PSN and picking out each song or bundle amid all the other DLC and digital game purchases.
