Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Can someone explain the negativity surrounding Vega in the SFV roster? Is it just because he's an SF2 vet who's "overplayed" at this point? Move set?

Just your usual character bias. Cammy was an even more underwhelming reveal because it was fking E3 and you'd expect something big out of that. Apart from her being 99% SF4 cammy. Its a good thing Birdie was also there , he was a pleasant surprise.

Amen to that. Make her pure fan service please.

Not before we get some pure man service, am I right, guys?

Side-note, I seem to recall someone on GAF having a Dudley avatar; is this true? I've been wanting to change Ray-Gilette-as-an-Alligator as my avatar for a couple of months now, and I've been stuck between Dudley, The Baz, and a 3rd character who I realize is from what basically became the new Homestuck in most circles so I'm opting against her. Moral of the story is, I picked Dudley, but can't remember if anyone has a Dudley avatar here.

A combination of the timing of his reveal, SF2 vet when people were expecting other characters to fill out the one slot in the roster that was a complete mystery plus SF4 Claw fatigue since he's hella annoying in that.

I think it's mostly him being an SF2 veteran that isn't an obvious inclusion. No one would bat an eye to Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Bison, or Cammy because they're expected. Vega, despite the fairly unique playstyle in SF, isn't considered by some a necessary character. If Guile were announced tomorrow people would go "Oh, of course" although his style is already represented in the game even if it's only superficially similar.

Vega pisses most people off because he totally got in over their favorite character of choice. And since generally most of the "fan favorites" have been getting in so far, he sticks out in that sense. The vocal crowd that is tired of SF2 characters also plays a part in it.

Personally, I'd rather other characters than Vega get in from jump but I'm not going to get all butthurt over his inclusion since he has his fans and looks pretty cool anyway.

I don't get the hate either. I think one reason I saw from people is that he doesn't fit the story, despite them not knowing the story.

This is double dumb considering all we know about the story is that it is the fall of shadowloo..Vega is legit one of the few remaining dudes outside of Bison they have left...you damn right he was going to show up. Sagat and Balrog left.

Ono appears to have set the world ablaze again, with only simple images . Truly, the Captain of the Ruse Cruise.

Hey, it's a fun trip; I'll happily ride it into the sun. I'm 25% leaning towards this being a trick like Rashid's tornados implying Cody or Dudley, but Zangief's own belt seems far more blatant.

lol whose the third character

Peridot, from Steven Universe. It's a good show, but I've noticed it's gotten a reputation for being the new series with stereotypical ravid fanbase, hence my uncertainty.

I mean that in the sense that he's an annoying character to play against that has been in SF4 ever since Vanilla so it's understandable why some people would be disappointed to see him again this soon.

My only real complaint about him. Would prefer to see less vanilla SF4 characters until much later.

I think KBrad mentioned that he's going to main Rainbow Mika because she's blonde and she has a stunner. Really hope he sticks to that choice!

Sh really should've kept the "double special" V-Trigger and upkicks.

Without almost no one playing her, it's tough Capcom to receive any feedback about her tools. At least, in the few streams I saw, the ones that did play Chun clearly had no idea what they were doing with her =(

Brolylegs is sticking to Chun... he was talking about it on dailydot this week and how he has a converter so he can still use a 360 pad on PS4. He's been using her in the beta.

It will be interesting to see if Valmaster stays loyal to her as well.

I don't mind Vega, but him making the launch 16 roster just baffles me. There's like at least a dozen other characters I would've chosen before him. Just feels like he shouldn't be here yet.

Well I'm going to attempt Chun-Li this time. I think she's a motion character this time so she'll be easier for me.

For other pros:

Filipino Champ: ???
Latif: Rashid
Snake Eyes: R. Mika
Luffy: ???
Combofiend: R. Mika & Karin
Poongko: Charlie
PR Balrog: ???
Alex Valle: Ryu
Dark Geese: M. Bison
Diminion: Charlie
NuckleDu: ???
Mike Ross: Cammy & Necalli

I think I need to see the rest of this cast to guess better.

Lightning legs is now a motion, but Kikkoken & SBK are still charge.

I'm a nobody & will only be playing casually, but I plan on checking her out because of the SFxT-like command change.

I keep seeing people say this but I think the charge times and beginners not knowing you can do down back would make it harder.

edit. Not that I find them hard, just I can see why some might not like them.

This is my stance on charge moves, I actually found hcf easier when I was younger than charge moves, but like Smo said back then I didn't realize how they worked or that you could even do down back.

I believe Ricki Ortiz said on twitter she'd be using both Chun and Karin.

Sh really should've kept the "double special" V-Trigger and upkicks.

Just because a character isn't a popular "pre-release go to" character doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the character.

I didn't know Chun would be so much fun to play before I actually sat down to play her in the beta. She was extremely fun to use.
I'd imagine that the same is true for many players and their eventual mains. Can't always predict who will turn out to be a good fit pre-release.

I mean, we don't even know who'll be any good in the game yet. Justin could say they'd play Chun but if in the final version Chun and Justin don't mesh then it'll be someone else. It's like calling a main right now without even trying the whole cast

Yea him and the EG guys said they really wanted Karin, but she seems pretty different from A3. Soooooo

I'm the one complaining the most about Chun because I main her since SF2 and pretend to continue with her in SF5. Thing is, I feel this Chun is lacking tools.

Most of her pokes are great. Her specials are okay to end combos and to put some pressure. But her v skill is bad and I still don't believe potential of her v trigger in an actual battle. All the combos I developed for the v trigger were either too situational, dumb or weren't all that good considering it's a v trigger.

I did used her a lot in the beta, but it always felt it to me that she's lacking something.

Yeah, it's just preliminary based off what they've seen so far. I don't follow the pros all that closely, but I doubt many of them have hard mains they use every game.

Even Umehara who is known for Ryu uses other characters depending on the game.

her v trigger is really strong. Air to airs juggle, you can use towards roundhouse for pressure which leads to a safe blockstring/combo if it hits without worrying about needing a counter hit as well. I think her v trigger's actually really strong.
