Trails of Cold Steel (Sen no Kiseki) getting Limited Edition

I was expecting the vita version to be more than £30. I guess I'll likely pick it up the day it comes out rather than wait a bit.

This isn't directly tied into previous The Legend of Heroes games, right?

The story isn't directly related but it's in the same universe and will make very vague references to what occurred in the other games. In the case of Zero and Ao, it'll be a little more direct but still very unclear unless you actually know what's going on.

This game is designed with new players in mind. It's really meant for folks to jump in and enjoy it and then go back and enjoy the other games' story.

It's connected to other games in the "Trails" series, but not the larger "Legend of Heroes" series.

Editing my post earlier in the thread regarding the Trails/Kiseki games...

Games 1 and 2 (Trails in the Sky First Chapter and Second Chapter) are their own complete story. Game 3 (Trails in the Sky 3rd) is a sequel to games 1 and 2 with the same cast, but also sets up future plot developments in later games.

Games 4 and 5 (Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki) are their own story arc. It stands on its own, but there are some events in this game related to previous games.

Games 6 and 7 (Trails of Cold Steel 1&2) are their own story arc. They mostly stand on their own up until near the end of game 7, where characters from games 4 and 5 come into play (including straight up spoilers for some pretty major stuff). Due to the way game 7 ends the next game will likely continue this story arc and may bring more things from games 4 and 5 into play.

The third, fourth, and fifth games aren't being localized because Cold Steel is more marketable with its more modern presentation and is available on "current" consoles. This is despite Zero and Ao being considered the best games in the series by most series fans that I know.

Yes and no.

No, in that this game is set in a country that's never been actively featured in the Legend of Heroes series before, with a cast of all-new characters, in a story that's entirely self-contained (though it does tie directly in with its own sequel, which we're working on now).

Yes, in that this game takes place in the same world as the Trails in the Sky trilogy, Zero no Kiseki, and Ao no Kiseki, and some events from those games (many of which are NOT available in English) are referenced or otherwise assumed to be known by players.

Not knowing them won't affect your enjoyment of Cold Steel's story, but may affect how you view the series as a whole -- it would be like playing Ys Origin before playing Ys I & II.

Oh wasn't aware of the bolded. What does that mean?

See the post I made right above that. Trails in the Sky 3rd, Zero no Kiseki, and Ao no Kiseki are all unavailable in English.

Oooh. I thought he meant events in the games that ARE being localized are just left out. That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the clarification.

It's a continuation of the story started in Trails in the Sky (the 6th game), but it isn't related to the ones before that.

Edit: Oops, responding to the bottom of the page comment, thought it was the last one.

I'm disappointed there isn't any music in this though. Getting the standard edition because of that. Maybe Cold Steel 2 will have a special edition that includes music from both games, would bite on that. But probably not since this LE almost seems like it's for both games with the box and art book.

Just saw This on Facebook

Seems like SC has a PEGI rating while CS doesn't. Good sign?

Probably because NISA is in charge of the European release of CS, not XSeed.

And IIRC, CS is PEGI 12.

Ah, I see. I was hoping out was a sign SC was a little closer but that makes more sense. Hope NISA decide whether they'll do the limited soon.

We wanted to include music with the LE, but it just wasn't in the cards -- this time around, weirdly enough, there were licensing issues with the music.

As such, I'm not sure we'd be able to include anything with Cold Steel 2 either. But Falcom does offer the soundtracks internationally via iTunes, so there's that, at least!

If I like the soundtracks I will probably buy them, but probably on Amazon. I prefer the musical selections you have done though just because it works out to be cheaper and they usually* cover every song I want, especially after the Silver Anniversary collection.

I wonder if it's still slated to come out this year. Tom mentioned that both EDF games are undergoing QA and one of them might get pushed to January, I think that if this is still coming out this year, it must be going to manufacturing soon.

They can push it back if it means the LE will be available at Bestbuy :(.

I'm buying the game day 1 regardless, but my Fall is kind of packed anyway. If they need to push it back a bit I can deal with it.

Well, officially, the announcement said "Fall 2015", so it technically ranges up to past mid-December, if you think about it.
