But seriously Skull Face is a terrible villain and his plan doesn't stand up to any scrutiny. A lot of the major languages spoken in the world are very similar in ways the parasites couldn't possibly be discerning enough to work properly, also many languages incorporate common words from other languages he would've killed the entire human race after everything was said and done.

Also his face doesn't resemble a skull at all.
There is actually an entire cassette dedicated to explaining how the parasites would discern between different dialects and overlapping words/phrases.

You probably fell asleep listening to it because it was Code Talker and he can be boring as fuck.

Oh I guess that Skull Face had already experienced the lose of control over Mantis with Shaboni.
Yeah, briefly. Shaboni was so full of hate (understandably so) that Mantis puzzled over him for a bit, until he died. This actually saved Venom's life, since the Man on Fire was inches away from strangling him with his flaming hot oven mitts, and he can't move when Mantis is "shifting gears."

Please tell us why you stabbed that man in the mouth so that we don't have to guess at it.

yeah, was half expecting for her to explain herself. Especially since she had started to prove herself as an ally.

Oh, you know what I just realized. Quiet wasn't trying to kill that random MB soldier. She was trying to cut out his tongue.

LOL

"...Stay still! I'm trying to save your life by cutting out your tongue, which could possibly kill you, but since we are on the medical base you will live."

Oh, you know what I just realized. Quiet wasn't trying to kill that random MB soldier. She was trying to cut out his tongue.
That's an interesting theory. The general consensus is she was trying to pry open his mouth to check for parasites, but since they're down in the throat you might be right that she was going for the tongue.

...which again, is so fucking disturbing. WTF Quiet!

I obviously like the story, but that scene REALLY bothered me.

There had to be other ways to check the guy for parasites.

Driving a knife through his teeth is fucking ridiculous.

Probably the most disturbing thing I've seen in a game.

wasn't that part because of the parasites and another part because he was harassing her like the rest of DD's crew? I always thought that was the case, may be she didn't tell because she wanted him dead.

I also think that she took a pact of silence, that makes her not talk or communicate in any sense by words, because eventually one thing could lead to another and she just don't want to

Oh shit! Something in a Metal Gear game that couldn't actually exist in the real world!

exactly my thought... there has been a huge loop in this thread about multiple things that people don't accept that are in a fictional videogame at all

I did actually listen to the cassette your referring to but honestly it was still a bit to much for me to roll with. I don't know why that was the thing I refused to even entertain, but that was a bridge too far. The rapid uranium enrichment thing was fun in a old school Moonraker way though.

Yeah. But more to the point, they -are- explained. Like I said, there's a cassette tape on how the parasites are bred across multiple generations to discern between different dialects and phrases.

Man formerly on Fire wasn't catchy enough.

I have a general question for everyone. Did you find anything in the game disturbing?
I was kinda disappointed I didn't see any really disturbing visuals in the game.

Yeah, this was most likely it.

At the end of the day she really didn't give a shit about DD aside from respecting Venom.

That is also why she continued to carry the English strain in silence because she still had revenge at the back of her mind due to what happened at the hospital.

Blame Kojima.

When you get into the excessive explanation game you don't get to just stop, and Kojima has been answering questions that didn't need answers since MGS4.

The contrivances that aren't explained just stand out all the more.

An explanation isn't good enough if I find the explanation lacking.

Oh boy, where to begin:

- Quiet garroting the doctor and nurse, complete with deep bloody flesh wound around the throat as he gurgles to death

- The XOF troop dragging away the patient who grabbed your legs as he screams "I don't want to die"

- Quiet driving the knife through the guy's teeth, which we've already discussed

- The invalids in the Devil's House with their throats cut open and lungs festering with bugs, which we've also already discussed

- Having to shoot your own men as they either beg for mercy or offer up their lives, in between clawing at their throats and ripping each other apart

- Paz clawing through her own intestines to retrieve the bomb. (Speaking of which, I still struggle to watch the surgery scene in GZ.)

- The attempted rape of Quiet and her subsequent rage mode: neck snap, ear bite, nut crush, dick stab, etc.

- Did I mention the dick stabbing? I mean, I get where she was at emotionally, and the guy had it coming to him, but damn...

Yeah, this was most likely it.

Why was quiet working for Skullface in the first place? I'm talking before she was reincarnated with parasite therapy. Was there a clear reason she joined him to go after big boss in the hospital?

Well, not even that, but just the fact that this is a game where a psychic flying boy teams up with a burning zombie man and controls a gundam, a device that rivals the iPhone existed in 1984, human cloning existed in the 70s, and the thing that we apparently can't accept is that a fictional parasite can discern between languages. :p

Pretty sure she was just the one who got picked for the job. A grunt among grunts.

We don't know why she was an asshole assassin working for XOF.

It's a bit of backstory I would've appreciated, since I find it hard to sympathize with her horrible deeds.

Nah, it has rules.

You'd scream bullshit at time-travel just like people did at superpower nanomachines.

It isn't anything goes. Questions about whether the plot devices pulled straight from Kojima's ass are explained in the game are valid.

Yeah. But more to the point, they -are- explained. Like I said, there's a cassette tape on how the parasites are bred across multiple generations to discern between different dialects and phrases.

most don't listen to the tapes, this same thing happened with peace walker, except that in that game, the theme was more known and people didn't get confused as much (the AI system)

I won't blame a man who don't want to just give us a simple game of shoot to the head and go on with your life, this man and his devs (Kojima Productions) wanted to make a game with more depth than a simple shooter, these people want to push further what other make, and that is exactly what I appreciate the most from them.

MGS was made famous by these kind of things, if Kojima wanted to just make a game, he could have ignored these whole themes and go on with a game that would be easily forgotten.

this same discussion was back in post MGS2 era

That scene's played much more for comedy/fanservice than any attempt to unsettle. Compared to the Ground Zeroes surgery scenes and hallucinatory Paz's breakdown; it's well into the realm of stylised, humorously exaggerated violence.

How was that scene played for comedy? They strangled her and were about to rape what they thought was her dead body

Of course it is.

Doesn't change the fact I felt like covering my crotch a bit watching that.

How in the world is that scene comedy.

Hahah yeah remember when they were about to rape her strangled corpse but she woke up and smashed that one guy's testicles

and bit off that dude's ear

and stabbed a guy in the dick like a hundred times

laff and a haff right there.

GUYS, STOP QUOTING THE NUT CRUSH

blame the man who asked ha ha ha

there are plenty of disturbing scenes in the game, my goodness, the Paz's last scene is pretty horrible

perfection in your writing, some mod should tag this to you

It was probably intended as serious, but the scene is so silly I started chuckling.

I laughed. Nervously. While clutching my balls in displeasure. And slowly dying inside.

It's like Kojima thought, "You know, this rape and necrophilia isn't bad enough, let's also explode testicles and stab dicks."

Horribly uncomfortable to watch.

Really well-choreographed, tho.

EDIT: MMARSTON, STOP!

It isn't anything goes. Questions about whether the plot services pulled straight from Kojima's ass are explained in the game are valid.

Sure, but as Neiteio pointed out, it is explained. I don't see how "The parasites can discern between languages and dialects because of selective breeding" is a bigger case of psuedo-science than nearly anything having to do with genetics in MGS1.

The attempted rape scene is garbage.

It's a character being depowered because reasons and defending herself against being raped by conveniently getting her super powers back and super kicking and stabbing her would be rapists, then a shot of her boobs.

Like every other theme in this game it is handled with the nuance and consideration of a 9 year old.

Jeez, we've already been through this. Please don't start again.

I don't think Alienous is taking issue with that particular explanation, so much as saying that Kojima put himself in a difficult situation by creating a series that feels the need to explain everything, no matter how outlandish.
