I actually wondered this, too, lol.
But, honestly, Capcom seems like they already knew the reaction to Gief would be lukewarm. That Russian game event wasn't hyped by Capcom at all, and Gief was sorta dropped randomly in the middle of the week with little fanfare. Plus, they announced him just one week before they had already planned to announce Laura.
Yeah, that's close enough for me, ha.
I never mind "still brow, slightly lighter" shades as much, and Vanessa's change kinda looked a bit better with her straight hair. But it is sad how few chocolate brown characters we see in anything, especially females. I have to wonder how a big, darker black guy would have been recieved if he took Zangief's place...

This is kind of a tangent but I don't think Lisa really got lighter I think it's just different lighting conditions.

Indeed, that's exactly what I'm thinking. Not that Gief is some horrible reveal but most of the SFII classics have been kinda' just "shown", not super hyped up.
IIRC Vega was pretty under hyped too.

Hmm this shot might actually be from her critical art. Ryu's taking lots of damage and her EX meter is completely empty.
Standard projectile. Should be fists not palms, and the stance could be better spaced for better conversion to kinetic energy.
