Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

How are people downloading their content early for Xbone? I didn't see an account history option like on the 360 anywhere.

on xbox one itself you have to manually search for the addon by either searching them specifically or searching rock band 4.
And then downloading each song 1 by 1... even song packs have to be downloaded individually.

And... not all of them are being listed as purchased.

With so much shit going wrong with this, I legitimately have to ask: why the fuck did they bother?

I don't care that this is "effectively an indie title." It has the fucking Rock Band name, it should damn well live up to it. What a god damn disgrace. HMX should legit be ashamed of themselves with how this launch has gone...and the game isn't even out yet.

My best buy XB1 full band box shipped this afternoon. But I no longer think I'll be keeping it. The amount of bullshit they're putting out is infuriating.

I feel there's a chance they could still turn it around given time. It used to be that the game you bought was the game you were stuck with, but I've seen Squenix turn things around with FFXIV and Bungie recently did the same with Destiny. This might simply be another case of people "paying for a beta," if you want to get cynical about it.

But I assume you still have download each song manually, no? (given what they said about automatic bulk downloads not being possible), not much easier/faster than the sort-by-price PSN option I would think.
Hopefully you can at least sort by purchased songs.

It's true that the PSN (XB1 too?) system does not allow for automatic downloading. It seems to require that you at least confirm each download to add it to the console's download queue (see Zen Pinball 2 table transfer from PS3, however, in that case the game at least searches automatically through your download list and you just have press X on each item... that would be nice to have in RB).

In a weird way, that's how I've thought about it. Like, it's going to be some time before it's ever (if it is ever) at feature parity with Rock Band 3. But I also know that they need me to support it early in order for these future patches and DLC to be viable.

That's the way I look at it. I can see why they are struggling. It's a big project for them. I was downloading my DLC today and I had so many DLC in there that was given to me by HMX through their giveaways. The least I can do is support the game.

It should have had more content but atleast they are willing to work on that. I also can see why it is not enough for some people, that is very reasonable. Hopefully they will still consider it if it ever reaches a point where that is no longer an issue.

Because they had to start somewhere? I agree the launch is less than ideal, but I imagine without the backing of a major company they need to actually launch the game sooner rather than later to start bringing in some revenue. They don't have an infinite amount of development money so the options were likely not to do it at all or launch, start a revenue stream, and reinvest that money to continue making the product better. Hopefully it is treated like Destiny where it is continually evolving and getting better.

It's a really hard situation. Harmonix clearly needs this game to sell, to justify further support. That's also why they likely spent their (smaller) budget on licencing big contemporary acts for the soundtrack, since that's the best way to capture the attention of the mainstream. But ultimately it's the hardcore fans who will be picking this up on day one, and buying the DLC - hopefully at a large enough scale for Harmonix to justify getting the game up to feature parity with RB3.

The fans are essentially being asked to buy into a lesser version of the game, as the only means of making the version they want happen.

considering the best song in RB is from RBN it's pretty unfortunate

though you've been following HMX long enough to know they'd pull some shit like this.

Pull some shit? Harmonix doesn't own the rights to the RBN songs in a way that they could batch relicensing them for next-gen sales.

Official DLC:
Harmonix licenses the song. They make the chart, which they own 100%. They are the sole point of contact for relicensing, which means they can batch renegotiate with a label for all of their songs on the store at one time.

RBN:
The charting company licenses the song. They also chart the song. They then submitted it on their own to Xbox Live. They split the price with Harmonix (engine royalty) and MS's royalty, but otherwise it is their product.

For Harmonix to re-release an RBN song, they have to basically obtain the rights to the chart from the charting company, talk to the label or the musician if they were unsigned to relicense the song itself, and start all over again for every single song. And there was some tiny labels and self-authors on RBN, so you have to hope that label still exists, is responding to you, or is even interested in relicensing for Rock Band anymore. There are roughly 2000 songs they'd have to go through this situation with.

It isn't impossible, but RBN and official RB songs are nowhere near each other in relicensing difficulty.

Well, I just hope they have plans to patch in some of the things that could not make the game. I am sure it was a tough decision to cut or postpone some of the features. I bet it came down to releasing in time for the holidays or not releasing at all until sometime next year. With GH coming as well, I am sure the pressure was on them to get it out the door.

As far as the licensing, I am sure that it cost a bit and getting a band like U2 that had never appeared in GH or RB in the past was a big coup for them and I am sure it will be welcomed by a lot of folks. I am a member of a few U2 forums as a big fan of the band and interest in this game shot through the roof as you can imagine on those forums. For me, I am curious what the DLC plans are for U2 songs and how many they plan to offer.

I hope the game sells well even with some of the shortcomings because that will add a lot more financial support for them and will give them the ability to add more to the game if that is what the plan is. Have they said if some of the features like on-line are things that will be added later to the game?

in regards to online they have only said it may come in the future. and that only a small portion of the community actually regularly used it and that they didn't feel it was worth the time and money early on in order to including it at launch with rock band 4 because it wasn't as important as other things such as making previously owned DLC or instruments compatible.

Uh, what?

he meant to link this

:P

(not really but it is likely my favorite RBN song)

Finally got my notification from Amazon, no adapter until Thursday. It stings a little but I have plans on Tuesday anyways...

Yeah, I imagine Guitar Hero Live forced their hand with this a bit as well. Being on shelves for Xmas won't hurt either, but with GH Live's bundle packing a far cheaper pricetag (and the apparent stock issues) - I doubt that's going to be the moneymaker.

2016 is what will either make or break this game. Harmonix will need to keep the DLC coming at a consistent pace/quality, and prove to the fans that in-demand features are being worked on. All the while reminding America that Rock Band is back, hoping to relaunch a phenomenon.

Oh, and do it all without the backing of a major publisher.

Id prolly be more upset about the launch but having most of my DLC really makes it hard to stay too mad at them.

Hopefully the rest of the legacy DLC gets updated to the game soon after launch.

Friend who works at Gamestop told me the Xbox One stuff is all delayed until next Friday. Might want to call your stores and check tomorrow. I'm in the USA, btw.

Starting my week-long vacation from work right.

Soo.. to get 3 mics working.. i pretty much need one of those usb hub things if i have an external hd?...

Xbox One has 3 usb ports, PS4 has 2 usb ports.
so unless you are using purely new instruments and no usb HDD on Xbox One.
You will need a usb hub for any FULL band configuration.

Wonder if hmx is coming out with any RB4 branded usb hubs.

I hope Harmonix decides to get in contact with RBN authors to get songs to come to Rock Band 4. As one of those authors with some really good songs (http://dlcquickplay.com/author/ozoneentertainment), I have wording in my contracts to allow them to be in the game. Harmonix just needs to tell me what I need to do.

The fact that you were smart enough to have that set up is amazing. Now if only Sonic song plans didn't fall through D: (Not blaming you for this at all)

A bit premature, but would anybody be interested in trading the four-song code they got from the Amazon preorder, for $5 in Amazon credit? Shoot me a message if you're down.

Yeah me to

No online
Release date moved a week atleast
supply of instrument really low it seems
no RBN songs

Went from the most important game of the year to complete meh for me. And ived played RB for 2500 hours atleast and invested tons of money in it.

The RBN songs thing has been known forever though, no?

Or did they come out and say 'nope, never' or something?

So how many EA support people did you guys need to go through before being able to get a RB@ export code. Everyone is telling me to check out Harmonix' support for keys since they don't have them anymore. 😕

EDIT: Well I got a support guy who was able to find the place where they get the keys, but when he tried to generate one, he got an error message saying that there weren't any left. He also said he'd been able to get keys earlier in the day so it looks like I might be out of luck. It was for xbox 360 by the way.

Checked Meijer and Wally World after work, and no one has it early yet. BAH! Was hoping Meijer would have it since I got Super Smash 3DS about a week early there.
