Transformers Devastation (Platinum Games) boss videos on Facebook

This is looking better and better. The bumblebee gif a few pages back. Holy shit. I didn't even think Vanquish and Bayonetta could be combined.

Just eyeballing completion times on Youtube playthroughs, it looks to be (game time spoilers)
a bit shorter than Rising - somewhere around 4-5 hours in length
, though it has way more challenge missions (50 vs Rising's 20), and the different playable characters look more game altering than any of the unlockable weapons in Rising.

This is correct. The main game is stunningly short.

My thoughts exactly lol. Even stuff like driving sections seem to be integrated well, thematically and mechanically. I mean, Transformers can transform and drive whenever they want. Compare that to playing a human character who fights with melee, then all of a sudden you're flying a jet or something. I think there's a seamlessness here with the different gameplay styles that isn't present in many character action games. It just makes sense.
Good point about the transforming. There's no reason why this shouldn't be Platinum's most cohesive game yet, in terms of the alternate gameplay segments making sense for the playable characters.

I will. Thanks!

I don't know about those Cybertron games. While I enjoyed the first game at the time I was bored out of my mind with the second and had to drop it. Multi was a lot of fun but I don't think it's active now.

Do some deep looking into them and don't buy them together.

Are there any good videos of Challenge Missions yet? I'm more interested in seeing gameplay specific stuff like that than more story mode at this point.

Well thats footage. Not playing which is a bit different in this circumstance.

They added needless complexity to him. In fact...we all are sort of sitting here puzzled. For him to run you have to hammer the B button, no one else needs that, additionally his timing is well outside the spectrum of the others(I can live with that). In fact I would just say his timing for all things is...off compared to everyone else. To the point the other people though my controller was dying. In tight battles, or tight areas as a whole, it adds complexity so on the hardest difficulty it can make him fairly unfun when you add that to his unique weapon type, Also he has some cool specials but they are only available in one form and not the other, unlike most of the other autobots and its timing is also totally different. Its almost like they got excited and brought in a character from the sequel lol.

Basically the one character that could be about brute force and simplicity still is but with some added complications that absolutely didn't need to be there. Super puzzling additions really when you look at the game as a whole. Not as puzzling as the 2d sections lol

Still doesn't make him unplayable. Just a bit of amaturish design among a great deal of far better stuff.

I guess the only thing I can say is. I was getting S's and A's throughout. Switched to him and C's and a couple B's. That will rise but no other autobot had such an odd changeup.

EDIT: I guess in a way you could compare him to say Wolf in VF. Which was my favorite character in that game but was a brute yet required far more complex interactions than many. Its just...it feels odd in this particular title.

Thanks for the response. I won't lie, everything you typed above just makes it more appealing to me. I reaaaaaaaaaally can't wait to dig into this.

Did you mean to respond to this post?

I agree with what he said. Grimlock sounds like a really interesting character and I'm excited to get hands on with him. Being "off" compared to the other characters makes him even more interesting because that's definitely intentional. The director mentioned before that Grimlock is his favorite playable character because they went out of their way to make him feel totally different and unique. Lol.

Really? Controls so unresponsive people thought the controller was dying sounds appealing?

It's all perspective. :)

Bad game design is bad game design. Regardless.

I don't think they meant to. That doesn't make much sense. If it was a design strata across various levels of the game it might be something like I said about say VF. but its not. then again its not horrible but it is a gameplay change that isn't reflected accurately in anyway elsewhere.
As a stream said a bit ago. He isn't broken, he is just cumbersome and unwieldy in a completely none fun way LOL

Ah sorry I guess I should clarify. I just mean Grimlock having different timing appeals to me greatly to me, making him a different character from the others to learn.

It's obviously a conscientious design choice and when Karak says 'Controls so unresponsive people thought the controller was dying sounds appealing' that may not be my actual experience when playing it in comparison to his or maybe it will! Afterall you've played it Karak and I haven't but I wouldn't call it automatically bad design just because you didn't enjoy how he played. I'm looking forward to finding out for myself and digging into it, hell I could end up agreeing with you, not counting anything out.

Basically this yeah :)

If it's bad I think we'll find out for ourselves. When it comes to playable characters, I find divisive opinions more interesting than if every character was just a little bit different.

Well I wrote it as a warning because I have found that forewarning can help.
Without the bump in logic we all felt, you should at the very least not have that surprise. And as I said its easily playable but the complexity I think your assuming isn't there. What I mean is, it isn't a complexity that adds, that would be good design. This is quite literally that sad middleground of something adding nothing. So i probably messed up with the VF mention.

Edit:
LOL I should have just wrote what was said to me, "Tell them it fucking sucks a big cankor sore"

I find fun more important.

Let me rephrase my original post then on Grimlock then.

It adds nothing but an extra button to cause the character to move forward faster. Everyone else needs a push on the joystick, for reasons without explanation Grimlock needs you to hammer the b button like an arm wresting game lol. And his timing is lagging and unresponsive compared to every other characters in the game combined.
Is it noticeable yep. Destructive...no. Just there.

I don't think you understand what we're saying. If it was poorly implemented, sure it sucks. But just hearing someone complain about how he controls totally differently from anything else in the game and does not feel intuitive, does not automatically make it bad. I'm still very much looking forward to trying him out and learning the quirks. Arguing otherwise seems pointless.

Oh I do. And ya its bad but doable. I agree though. Strange with the arguing that started.

Less in some areas!
Also many stores already have a ton of copies.

I appreciate you talking about the differences, not meaning to sound like I'm having a go as I'm genuinely not :)

Ah fuck, I wish it was next week already.

Not a problem. I probably shouldn't have tried to even defend it at the start as there isn't really a factual defense for it. So I sort of left it open when I should have posted the clarification as the original post.

But I absolutely meant what I wrote about a warning. I myself have been warned about stuff in games and then played them and felt them far less than the original person.

Back on to subject for a second. I wasn't aware of all the damn backstory for Grimlock. Just checked out the transformers wiki thing. Damn. He is like King Conan lol

I love how this sounds (re. Grimlock). Makes me all the more excited. Being a bit obtuse, playing with player expectations -- These things add a lot of flavor to the right game.

I'm a little disappointed none of the Z cars are playable, since I love those (Prowl, Smokescreen, Bluestreak). Maybe next time..

DLC playable characters would be great.

You should also read the story of how High Moon Studios saved Grimlock/the Dinobots, it's a great read :) (and god bless them)

Got my xbox 360 copy yesterday, forgot that i had pre-ordered it and was going to get if for the XB1 but im really impressed with the 360 version i might just not bother with the XB1 version. Game seems to be really good so far and anyone who is a G1 fan will love it i think. Was going to post a YT video of it but not sure if it will get pulled as its not out yet

Gutted that Sidewipe is in but no Hotrod.....wtf!!!!

Sideswipe is one of the characters in the current TF cartoon (S1 finished months ago) That's prob. why he's in there.

Might be some DLC further down the line mate. Mirage would of been a good fit for this imo.

I beat it on next gen and am now halfway through the 360 version and there is only a couple little differences. Anyone with a past gen isn't missing a ton in the GFX section due to the aim in animation.

Any idea what the fps or resolution is on 360?

how many difficulty settings are there?

Easy/Normal/Hard when you first boot it up then two extra unlockable difficulty levels. It seems to be set up similarly to Rising in that Hard is probably the best way to play the first time for action game fans.

This is what I've wanted for years. I'm looking at my Masterpiece Megatron figure now, and gun Megatron makes for a poor toy. His spindley legs can barely support his own weight. This would not be an issue if he Transformed into a big meaty tank.

He's always been difficult; but this third party version is the best I've seen so far: looks good in gun and robot mode. Still fiddly though.

Looking forward to how this game turns out before I jump on board. I like Transformers but I am crap at beat em ups.

It seems like the tap b stuff with Grimlock allows him to do his power charge WAY quicker than the rest of the cast. Literally, just tap b once, while at the start his walk animation, then press x to do his power charge. Way better than having to do a complete U turn while driving away, to break through shields.

I've avoided watching anything other than bits and pieces, but from what I could tell some bosses actually seem to have relatively fully fledged movesets. I wonder if Hasbro cockblocked them as playable characters because Platinum wouldn't have time to rework the story with Autobots and they didn't want to have stuff like Megatron vs Megatron or whatever.

I say the idea that we get a DLC campaign for the Decepticons sometime later is our best bet.

Or at least, that's what I'd hope.

it wouldn't surprise me if the intent was to create DLC later, like Metal Gear Rising's Sam and Blade Wolf DLC.

Ya actually all characters get burnout from the skill list whenever you want to buy it. Its the same thing roughly. I wish there were more skills though. That would really be cool. and it felt like a waster oppertunity that you couldn't have some kind of true tagteam move. Especially as the Decepticons use it constantly.

Some are completely full movesets also since the AI is good their relentless and handle battle fairly well compared to recent other games with multi-opponent battles going on.

It looks pretty good on PC. My apologies if old!

Aside from the change in resolution that could be any of the versions. Its nicely, or almost always nicely running at 60fps on everything.

Just beat this a second time. Playing only as Grimlock once unlocked, Opt prior to that. I love Opt's wide ass trailer swing special move.

Hmm, Megatron doesn't sound right. Who's voicing him?

Franke Welker himself, however, he's older now than when he voiced him during the 80s so he may not sound the same. In the TF Prime cartoon where Welker voiced Megs you can hear that his voice is much softer than the G1 cartoon, at least for me.
