Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Funnily enough Alex's default clothing is green pallet. Furthermore his pants are overall pants, but that would be too much detail needed for background npcs :P

I hope alex isn't in, he's boring

just like urien.
and juri.

Do you hope they aren't in because you would rather another character make the roster? Or do you flat-out dislike them so much that you think they would degrade the roster?

It certainly seems like a lot of the strong opinions about character originate from a desperate desire for another character to make the roster. Maybe an understanding of the post-launch character plans will help quell this anxiety a little...

You can definitely tell the difference in the quality of Alex's model compared to the other background characters. He's not just some quickie cameo.

Some direct footage from Brazil (claw vs birdie) so you can hear the gief stage music. 2nd match lets you hear the Brazil stage music.

That same account has some nice direct feed footage of Rashid, Nash, Zangief and Karin playing on the Kazuki Estate stage.

The dude drinking wine and performing bodybuilder poses on that stage is incredible. So random, yet so amazing.

After hearing the new themes, HIllside Plaza now takes the top spot as best theme in the game (to me anyway).

City in Chaos sounded too subdued, not enough hypeness in the track. Underground Arena reminds me of Cruise Ship Stern, but more metallic. lol.

I think they're live streaming the panel today at NYCC, so something's happening.

He's going to reveal Blanka apparently. I guess he was so upset last week that Laura leaked because he had to skip ahead and do Laura first rather than Blanka in his home country.

Bro, Laura exists now.
I need to know more about her before I really form an opinion, but I'm currently pretty meh towards her. Cool hair, cool theme song, and that's about it for me. She feels a bit derivative, personally. (Though that's hard to avoid in fighting games.)

I was sold at first glance myself, but I understand where you're coming from. After the somewhat lackluster new character designs of SF4, Laura is an amazing improvement to me. That, her gameplay and the fact she's Sean's sister just make her perfect to me.

I've never been crazy on Rose though. I know next to nothing about her and I feel like she's just always been there without doing much. I'd like to know more about her but I never actually try.

Yeah I much prefer the new characters in 5 to those in 4. A few of them were pretty good but some of them were really terrible. Out of the three new ones, I like Rashid, but I think they are all pretty solid.

Rose is amazing. A very unique character that's a good middle ground without being a shoto. Her design is good, her gameplay is great and her background is interesting (she's supposed to be the good side of Bison). Of course she's my main after I dropped Ken because getting tired of shotos.

Wish she had other wakeup options than backdash, though :-/

Pfffft God no.

God no.
Tear down those walls and open up your heart.

I'd place Laura above Rufus, Juri, Gouken, Hakan and El Fuerte, but below Abel, Viper, Necalli and Rashid. I'm not a Sean fan so that aspect doesn't excite me much, and nothing else really stands out to me besides her hair. Obviously being a gay dude, her outfit doesn't really do much for me. I don't find it particularly interesting or stylish. (The faux thong is silly, though I'm not gonna harp on that when I'm pushing hard for more beefcake.) Her fighting style is okay, but her CA looks kinda silly to me. The voice they chose doesn't help much either. I really want to like her, but she just doesn't click with me.

As for Rose, the short version is that she's the incarnation of the good half of the Soul Energy present the SF universe. (M. Bison being the evil side.) That's how she's able to see the future. She actually knows what Ryu's inner power is too, and what it is ultimately intended for, and she's one of the few people that have canonically fought Akuma and survived. She's awesome.

Rose is dead and canon is important now guys
Not sure if you're joking, but she's actually alive post-SFIV. Guy saved her from being drained of all her Soul Energy by M. Bison.

Abel is the only SF4 newbie I really clicked with, but even then he's boring as fuck. For me personally Laura is the best newcomer since SF3. Necalli and Rachid are cool, but imo Laura trumps them. I don't have a problem with anyone not liking Laura, everyone has their own opinions and that's that. Like, I can't stand Juri and I fail to understand why she's one of the most popular SF characters ever, but I still understand and respect those that do like her, same with all the other character's and their respective fans (except Rufus and Fuerte. If you're a fan of those two you should feel bad). Who knows though, once you start playing as her you might like her.

She sounds pretty interesting, but unfortunately Bison/Shadaloo is getting really, really boring now (I actually don't want Bison to come back ever again after this game) so the whole good side of Bison thing just doesn't interest me unfortunately. Rose seems cool though, just don't think I'll ever get into her.

Bison and Shadaloo are stale as fuck. I'm not saying remove everyone related to Shadaloo, but it's time to move the fuck on.

Abel is the only SFIV newbie I really clicked with also. One of my all time fav SF characters ever, as I've frequently espoused in this thread.

I don't get the Juri love either, but like yourself, I'm trying really hard not to disparage characters I don't care for, because everyone has their fans. Even Rufus and El Fuerte. (I actually like El Fuerte more than Juri.) So much time is spent by the FGC talking about characters they don't like, I don't get it. Rosters are always so contentious and that's really draining. Everyone hoping we'll get our favorites in, and when we see other characters make it instead, then we get bitter or defensive. There's nothing wrong with some civil ribbing or disagreeing with someone, but we've already had too many instances in this thread where things go off the rails.

That's why I'm trying the "wait and see" approach with Laura. I don't particularly care for her now, but I'll still give her a shot. And either way, I'm not gonna go out of my way to needlessly put her down.

I'm totally over Bison in his current state now too. They've developed his character so little that we still know almost nothing about him despite his presence being the driving force for so much of the story. They need to shake him up and give him some motivation or something.

The thing with Rose though is that while they're obviously intertwined, she's not dependent on him. She actually wants to get rid of him, and I'd love to see her be the one to finally defeat him once and for all. Plus, she has the connection to Ryu which is obviously gonna be a throughline of the entire series, and now something happening with Guy too. And if Ingrid ever returns, they'd have a connection also.

Bison's english voice is ass man. Wakamoto the god will be the Bison voice when I play. I think Birdie says Wanker now. Did he always say that?

No go Jericho. She aint rufus or ingrid but she doesnt really do much for me either. She's a solid 6-7. A solid adon , i dont mimd her but she doesnt interest me enough to play her too long, combined with more interesting folks on the roster.

I love the character that she's influenced from but I'm not really a big fan of Rose.
This about where i stand on rose

Yeah, I pretty much agree with almost all of this. Yesterday was so annoying with all the constant shit posting about who's popular, who's iconic and everyone just shitting on each other's favourite characters and games. Makes me really hate scrolling through this thread at times.

That's good to hear that Rose isn't so dependant on Bison. I just feel that so many characters can actually move on and do their own thing without Shadaloo and Bison being in the game. Vega, Balrog, Decapre, Cammy ect. can all have great storylines without Bison shitting things up.

I do wonder who's going to finally put Bison out of his misery. Rose is a good contender. Ryu I guess could do it. Guile, Cammy and Chun Li all have good reasons.

Actually, I remember reading somewhere that in 3rd Strike it's mentioned that Chun Li is the one that causes the downfall of Shadaloo. I hope we explore that in SFV.

Definitely. I get my favorites are not really the norm, but sometimes the comments in here go overboard. And it's way more fun in my opinion to talk about the characters you do like.

Shadaloo definitely needs to end soon, hopefully in V here. The Illuminati are the obvious next big organization that'll be running things, and we're already seeing hints at that.

Tons of characters have really old and tiresome baggage attached to Shadaloo that needs resolving. It'll be beneficial for all the characters involved IMO, including Bison. It would actually be interesting to see him actually be really defeated, no back up plan/body/whatever. Then in the next game he can come back as some lone wolf type underdog trying to rebuild himself, or they could go in a completely different direction and make him repent and try and harness the good side of the Soul Energy. Just do something different with him. (Or at least give us more insight into his seemingly endless quest for power. Does he have any motivation at all?? Gill and Urien have only been in one iteration, and we already know more about their reasons for doing what they're doing.)

Rose is the best. Sakura is the worst. The only shot Sakura has at not being the worst is if she's ever radically redesigned.

Question guys: with the amount of characters revealed, and the amount of dev time before February, do you guys think that Capcom will update the current stages so they have a "destructable corner" like the Chinese Restaurant one?

For example, the bathroom on the left corner of the London Train Station, or what we assume to be the cave on the Forbidden Waterfall stage.

The NYC stage has a glass window on one side also, so that seems like another possibility for a stage KO.

The Kazuki Estate has that open ballroom too.

Yeah, some of the best moments in this thread have been when a bunch of us just have civil conversations, but then someone usually comes in and starts shitting up the thread and causing loads of arguments. I just don't get why we can't have civil conversations anymore. Some people in this thread get way to easily offended and immediately get defensive and then the thread is just shit after that. Last night is a prime example.

Yeah, Urien should be in the starting roster for this game. It's clear we're moving into SF3 territory and the fact we have no Illuminati representation is...odd.

To be honest, Bison can come back. I just don't want Shadaloo to come back. Once Shadaloo is gone these characters can have some new storylines.

Yeah. I like the idea of Bison coming back on his own and the other two going on their separate ways. Sagat leaving was probably the best thing that ever happened to his character and I think it did wonders for him. Vega and Balrog doesn't have to go that same sort of path, but it would be more interesting to see them do their own thing rather than still being Bison's lackeys 20+ years later.

Do I really have to point out the irony here?
