Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

No but I think it's bullshit that after 20 years they just got it from the system and I'm looking at an almost recognizable cast of dis interesting favorites from easily the worst part of the series to me (3) and even more uninteresting new characters that should have been saved for dlc
Okay, that I can understand (although I disagree). But saying they're limiting gameplay is stretching the argument too much, I think.

There's enough evidence with Nash's design and stage that either/both Urien and Gill are involved pretty heavily in the story. I tend to believe the Udon comic is close to (if not exactly) the storyline they're going to use.

Doesn't the UDON comic get invalidated every time a new SF comes out?

Basically fanfiction

This is the problem with releasing 2 characters back to back: You got nothing to hype people up for the remainder of the month :V

Not necessarily, they did state in their SF4 comic that Gen died during it.

As is the Nash comic is merely a tie-in to the game, so Gill or Urien are likely to be in among future DLC characters.

-Awesome to see Snake Eyez play Gief but damn... I'm really not feeling the character in this game. With the other grapple-heavy characters being incredibly unique he looks so milquetoast by comparison. Gief was my most played character in IV but I'm starting to think I won't be touching him much at all in V.
Everything about him is different. Air SPDs will be huge if you can set them up. All the armored moves need you to know the game well, but should be good. Lariat looks better now and his V-Trigger looks like a decent special move/power-up hybrid. I think he could be really good.

be that as it may... this is not fanfiction

Oh I don't dispute the changes nor that he has the potential to be a strong character. I'm just stating that his play looks more straightforward than the other grappling-heavy characters. (kind of cool that I don't feel comfortable just saying "grappler" anymore thanks to the space becoming a big gray area)

Gief and Mika most closely resemble the pure grappler archetype of games past and, between the two, I'm of the opinion that the latter looks much more fun/interesting to play.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention before that this is far and away my favorite version of Bison. So much badass/psycho swagger.

I'm pretty sure there has to be SF3 characters in the roster before you can start bitching about SF3 characters taking up roster spots. That combined with the fact that (I think) you're saying new characters should be removed for your personal favourites just assures that I'll never take any of your posts seriously.

Ridiculous.

That I can't deny... save us please Kinu, Akiman, Bengus, Ikeno, Edayan!

Actually, why haven't we seen any of their art unlike with SFIII and SFIV? One of them must still be involved in the conceptual stage at the very least one would think, so hopefully we'll see their concept art at some point (perhaps in a future art book, like with IV for the most part).

"Zangief is mentioned to be the first character with a 360 command grab that has been added to the game as Zangief is intended to be technical and difficult to play."

Does this mean that the 360 input shortcut is gone? Because otherwise I don't find them to be any more "technical" or "difficult" than other motions.
Doubt it. They've had it since SF2, don't see why they'd change it now. They probably mean it is just more complicated/prone to messing up in comparison to all the other moves in this game, which is true even with the shortcut.

Well SF4 was mostly Kinu and Ikeno- but they weren't involved much beyond Arcade Edition. It's funny, just the other day I wanted to see what Juri looks like in Kinu's style... but couldn't find where she's ever illustrated the character. The character art for Ultra and Street Fighter x Tekken was handled by unnamed artists at Polygon Pictures, the studio that did the CGI movies.

We know Kinu, Bengus, and Akiman were working on Gundam Recognista the last year or so- so they weren't available. But yeah... dunno about Ikeno, Edayan (who did the designs on the most recent Ace Attourney I think), or even Shinkiro

EDIT- Kazuya Nuri is doing Ace Attorney so who knows about Edayan

Hmmm... never knew that it was considered a difficult input tbh. You can do it in either direction regardless of what side you're on and it never felt much different from a half circle to me.

I don't think it's especially hard either (at least the short version), but some people didn't like the Tiger Knee motion, so it comes as no surprise that 360s are considered difficult by some.

Also, outside of maybe some official guides, I don't think Capcom has ever actually told players that they could do the move clock/counterclock-wise or that they could even do a shortcut. I don't blame those players not in the know for thinking it's an obtuse command.

I think saying "everything about Gief is different" is a little bit of an exaggeration

I played him at NYCC and while approaching the opponent obviously feels completely different because you need to use V-skill instead of greenhand, once you're in there it feels a lot like SF4 - his cross up's the same, his pokes are almost the same, etc. The goal is still to land SPDs like it's always been. SPD range seems really short right now but I think that'll change before release

Just curious, do anyone think we might hear something about SFV at Paris Game Show?

Continuing the trend of Capcom giving us SNK-esque characters since SNK is lying down for a while, I'm going to go ahead and say Remy.

And continuing the trend of silly justifications for personal favorites, I'm going to say he fills a playstyle that doesn't currently exist on the roster.

There's no chance it's Remy, but it would be way cooler than whoever the final returning character will be.

Green Hand was such a dumb move, especially as 90% of its use was closing in after an SPD.
A lot of attacks in SF are good for closing in options. That was indeed a benefit.

Thank god. Entry SF4 Gief complaints aside, his grab range was still pretty ridiculous.

I was thinking about Remy. But chances are very small imo.

Yes, it would be. There would be a lot of salt if he showed up.

Dude, I don't know if you have noticed, but the sodium levels are already pretty high around these parts. The blood pressure is rapidly rising. Hell, there is at least one regular poster that appears to be a single grain away from full cardiac arrest...

In regards to the Story mode, while I'm almost sure they'd probably never take things to how I imagine a dope story mode could go in fighters, I have a few thoughts on how they could embody some new elements to their story mode (and probably other fighting games in general).

For one, if they're truly serious about the mode being a lot more important this time around, perhaps they should release the story in episodic content form whenever they have new character packs come in. Not as just an aside, but have the story truly progress within each update. This isn't to say that the initial roster's stories have to be on cliffhangers or anything like that, just that newer facets of the story and character would come to play as new/old characters come in DLC and have have an actual effect on the previous characters stories as well.

The other, which I feel would be an even more evolutionary form of handling story mode in fighters (and as such, probably even less likely to happen) would be that your story mode would actually have the option of fighting other online players whom are using characters that pertain to your fighter's story rather than just the AI. This could be done on the low level of importance sides of your fighter's quest like just fighting your average jobbers and the more significant fights like mid-stage bosses/bosses/rivalries, etc. I imagine it would mostly be at random, though, they could still tell brief story elements even for non-major fighter interactions pre-fight, which could also double as the load screens/wait for finding online opponents that are using said other characters. It'd be even iller to have this include their rank system for finding equally skilled, lesser skilled and more skilled opponents to be your story mode opposition, as that could be a bit like a difficulty setting for the story mode itself. It could even move the story forward still if you lose and have the story incorporate the win or loss to those specific characters as well, rather than the obligatory fight quote screen only. I figure this would be an efficient way of having online only gamers that normally wouldn't even bother with the story mode more of an incentive to play it, as it'd be suiting the best of both worlds. Obviously, it can be selected off if you'd opt not to fight anyone online with your story mode.

Re-posting this for thoughts, since I know it got overlooked during yesterday's NYCC sham, lol.

Damn right I'd be salty if he showed up.

If anyone from that game should appear, it's that Kasumi Todoh/Hokuto-looking girl.

Yes, I never played the game, so I'm just going by looks :p

No reveal at NYCC is kind of a bummer, I assume we will get the last returning SF vet soon (because we got a new character reveal) so we finally can start speculating dlc instead of this SF3 vs WW shtick... Do people think that we will be dripped dlc characters that are seemingly random favorites, or we will get theme'd drips like final fight set/sf3 rep set...

I was expecting them to really showcase the new stage, give some new details, and close with a tease. So yeah, pretty disappointing for me, and I had more measured expectations than many.

I think they'll be dropped in a similar fashion to new League of Legends champs. Considering the balancing and other things that go into getting characters to work it makes the most sense to have characters in the pipeline at different points so different teams can work on them.
