XSEED Holding Event This Week - New Exclusive Announcements at the Event

Net High looks and sounds really cool. I'd be really happy if it got announced for localisation :)

It's probably too early (isn't even released in Japan yet) but I would love it if Bad Apple Wars would get localised....eventually... The art looks really nice.

Hey, dudes.

Stop linking pornography. Christ.

If it airs on TV, it ain't pornography.

I really hope that Zwei 2 got picked up by XSEED. I've been waiting for that translation for ages - can anyone who played it tell me if it's better than Gurumin? I really, REALLY tried hard to like Gurumin but it was just too clunky and simple.

Er, I don't know how to answer that, then, as Zwei II is also very simplistic in its action -- which is part of its charm, IMHO, but I also really liked that aspect of Gurumin.

It has a far more involved story, though, with more characters, better graphics and a much more fleshed-out world. So you'd probably like it better.

...Also, please don't read into these answers. I'm just a big fan of Zwei II (it's one of my personal favorite Falcom titles), and also a real advocate of freedom of artistic expression, so I felt the need to respond to both of these quotes. My acknowledgment is not tantamount to confirmation of any sort, though, and should not be taken as such (lest you be disappointed if and when announcements do happen!).

-Tom

I think decent candidates are:
- Tokyo Xanadu (Falcom)
- Net High (Marvelous)
- Mystery Chronicle: I Won't Look Back Until I Win (Spike Chunsoft)

It's not as much the fact that it's simple, it's the fact that it felt clunky and the 30fps cap really, REALLY did not help that. I kept trying to play through it but I felt like I was playing the game through molasses. This meant that things felt EXTRA repetitive when I engaged in the simple combat.

All of the gameplay videos I've seen look far more interesting and since I'm especially sensitive to animation quirks it also looks far more fluid.

It's just too soon for a Tokyo Xanadu announcement. At best, XSEED would have just started on it since it only came out a few weeks ago. Maaaaaaybe they started on it before it was released, but I don't think either company likes to do that. If TX is as big as I've seen suggested, it would probably be a 2017 release, just wouldn't make sense to announce now.

Xanadu Next seems like the Falcom game most likely to show up since we know they picked it up a while back, based on the domain registration.

Notwithstanding your assertion that Emmanuelle in Space is high-brow entertainment for wholesome kids (I'm sure that's what I would have argued if my parents caught me as a teenager, but I'm an adult now so I've maybe moved past that a little *coughs*), if people post links to anything any of us think is porn in this thread again, they'll just be permanently banned instead of the regular temporary ban. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ah, I really can't answer that, then, since I legitimately don't notice any difference between 30fps and 60fps most of the time -- like, Zwei II could run at 30fps or it could run at 120fps, for all I know. ;)

I'm sensitive to/have pet peeves regarding a lot of things in video games (shadows being the big one, and I still don't understand why dynamic shadows have gotten so much more pixelated over the years -- they looked so good in the PS2 era, yet always look kind of terrible in the PS3 era and beyond!), but framerate isn't one of them.

...Seriously? That seems awfully... totalitarian.

If you're going to go so far as to insta-ban people for posting "porn," you need to at least define what porn is. You can't just say "if we think it's porn, it's porn."

...Or, I guess you CAN, but you really shouldn't. That doesn't make for a very open and inviting forum.

I don't know, I remember buying porn on tv simply because I was too stupid to remember that confirm meant yes.... and I was sick so I already wasn't thinking.

I don't know. That was over a decade ago *shutter*...

Fair enough. Animation has always been my main passion, thus it's part of my career in games now - everything just felt so damn floaty combat-wise in Gurumin and the choppy framerate made it feel even worse. I really doubt Zwei 2 has any of the issues Gurumin does, since Gurumin is 11 damn years old and Oath in Felghana came out after it and it's just fine.

Note: there's a difference between playing 30fps games on a TV and playing one on a PC - there are several factors that make 30fps on PC feel even worse than on a console.

I qualify my statement, then: if it airs on regular non-pay TV networks, it ain't pornography.

What? Are you saying that nude anime teenagers performing explicit sexual acts isn't pornography?

If it's airing on network television, in pretty much ANY country, then no, by definition, it's not pornography.

That's why it had mosaic censoring in place: to make it "TV-appropriate."

-Tom

Ah, yes. The classic definition of pornography

por·nog·ra·phy
pôrˈnäɡrəfē/
noun
printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings, but only if it is not on television.

printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings

Keyword is "explicit." Nothing about that clip was explicit, thanks to the mosaics.

...Not trying to be a dick here! I just hate to see people make assertions that things are pornography when even network censors disagree.

And for the record, I'm only arguing this because I'm legitimately surprised that any NeoGAF mods had a problem with it being posted, since it's both topic-relevant and censored for television. Posting it did not appear to break any of the rules of this forum, so if you're saying it did, I just want to go on record as stating that your rules may need to be updated for clarity, as they are presently a little too open to interpretation.

-Tom

Wow this is a minefield thread if I ever saw one. STEP CAREFULLY...

TGWceVM.gif

Well, Pirates was shown in public TV (in the context of my country I believe) and it's porn alright... They just removed the porn parts and it resulted into a very short kinda subpar movie.

I thought the shrug emoji would adequately convey how little I care about keeping the kind of people who hair-split whether graphic lesbian sex videos are porn or not as posters. I guess it didn't. Maybe this one will:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm just saying this is a battle that should not be fought.

There's no winning, especially since it's not something that's suppose to be linked to.

Our rules are more strict than that. You cannot post even censored porn here. I'm sorry if that is unjust to you, but them's the breaks.

However, the show airs uncensored, as do things like Queen's Blade, so you claiming they aren't pornographic is pretty wild, and I'm not sure very many people would agree with you.

God damn, I'm seriously sorry about that. This thread is rapidly flying off the rails thanks to me posting the youtube link to a censored clip of the show. Can we just stop before this escalates? I don't like seeing all this negativity in a thread about what might be the most exciting event this year save E3 (for me at least)

It... doesn't air with mosaic censoring in place.

You're weird, man.

It... doesn't air with mosaic censoring in place.

Apparently it does, in all but one place. And that one place is, to my knowledge, a pay channel.

Anyway, sorry I brought it up! I just hate seeing "injustice" of this nature, and feel I'd be shirking my ideals if I didn't bring it to the public consciousness.

I won't say another word on the subject. Let's just return to our previously scheduled conversation.

-Tom

To get back on topic, I might be one of the two people who wants XSEED to bring Dinosaur Resurrection to Steam. It might do better than expected.

I just wish they would finish with trails SC already instead of wasting their time on other projects

It's done already. They even finished QA.

I had the absolute worst pun lined up, but I think I'll leave that be.

On topic, I saw a while back that XSEED had an "extra" app in the steamdb that didn't seem to be related to a currently announced game. That's a little more very vague evidence for a PC release (read: Xanadu Next).

We are finished with Trails SC. We're getting everything wrapped up on that so it's ready to release.

And I don't think fans of our other projects would appreciate you saying we're "wasting time" on them! Especially when that time wouldn't be used for SC anyway -- we have dedicated people working on SC, and dedicated people working on other projects. That's how it's always been, and how it always will be. If we used all our resources focusing on a single project, our doors would be shuttered in no time!

...And if I were working on SC instead of Return to PopoloCrois right now, believe me, I'd be a grumpy gus! SC's got nothin' on Popolo. ;)

Oh, you and me both! Sooner or later, it's bound to happen. We just have to bide our time until Ken's defenses are low, and then we strike! ;)

There are a lot of people who want that. I would whole-heartedly support it. The original Dinosaur is a childhood favorite of mine; I absolutely adore it. The remake is fantastic, too.

Whatever happened to the EDF 2 and 4.1? They're also in schedule this year along with:

Trails of Cold Steel
Senran Kagura: Estival Versus
Return to PopoloCrois
+ Corpse Party PC

All's well that ends well. No one was banned. Woohoo!

Moving on, does Xseed announce localization of games that aren't out in Japan yet? Net High, Valkyrie Drive, Omega Labyrinth, and a bunch of other cool games haven't come out in Japan yet AFAIK, so I'm automatically assuming that it's impossible for them to be here.

That's not something that's traditionally been their MO. It's not impossible to license something early, but I wouldn't expect any such announcements.

We do from time to time, but not very often.

They have mentioned before they don't like working on games until they are done. And at least in the case of a company like Falcom, it seems like they like to keep their cards close to their chest. Tom's comments give me the impression they can't pick any games up from them until they release.

Other companies might be open to it, but if XSEED would rather wait until they have a finished game to work on then it doesn't matter.

I dont think these have gotten solid release dates apart from 'Winter 2015' and such. I'm pretty sure they've said Estival Versus and Popolocrois were gonna be winter next year.

Looking forward to any Trails news! A Trails in the Sky SC release date especially.

I kind of hope we get a reconfirmation of Trails in the Sky the 3rd too. Haven't seen anyone mention that here yet.

I wouldn't expect anything about any other Trails games for a while. They will want to see how SC and Cold Steel do before committing to anything else.

I'd say at this point 3rd has been "canceled," but if SC/CS do well they will probably continue to work on the series, both new and old entries. In fact, I think they are probably expecting to do that, but aren't committing to it until they see the sales.

So why are we talking about games that haven't come out yet? lol

So the games there aren't going to be unreleased games. And I don't think its the right time for Tokyo Xanadu yet. So for Vita (all I care about... and I guess PS4 but I don't have any expectations for that) I'm guessing Luminous Arc Infinity.... and that's it. And maybe VNs? I just hope they have something.

Well, Tom did say that a localization of 3rd would force them to do Zero and Ao too, since that game leads into the rest of the series after Trails FC and SC. AFAIK they haven't committed to it yet for that reason.

That being said, Zero and Ao would be something I would be far more excited for over Sen/Cold Steel. I know CS is about to come out, but to be honest, I really don't like Falcom's new go-to artist for everything (including Legend of Heroes.) That's a really petty reason to dislike something, but I much prefer previous artists (aka the unnamed Trails internal artist and Katsumi Enami) and I feel like this new artist is the reason for all the new designs.

I still think Cold Steel is going to be incredible and I'm going to love it, but the fact that most people's reactions is that Sen is a step down on top of all that kind of makes me a bit down.

Too early, considering they already confirmed Cold Steel II. Before any new Trails announcements I expect them to release SC and Cold Steel I.
I would like 3rd confirmation, but they probably want to get some work on it before letting the secret out. But who knows?

this please

EDIT: also tokyo xanadu

Yeah! I'd buy both of these. Tokyo Xanadu I was already hoping for and Net High looks cool as hell and sounds neat from the descriptions posted.

I also first thought of Kamina looking at him lol. Though now that the other poster mentioned it I do see some Phoenix in there too. Good combo.

It's the same character designer/artist as Gurren Lagann & Kill la Kill, for those wondering about the art style.

Oh, no wonder. Nice!

Their output has been pretty high lately; they've already announced every surefire 3DS game from Marvelous and most of the Vita games too.

I'm remember being really hyped for Luminous Arc Infinity when it was announced, but heard the game is not that great, would still buy it though if it gets announced.
Ray Gigant is a game I want to be translated by XSeed but I don't think Bamco will allow that
Stranger of Sword City would be great too as long as NISA doesn't touch it

I hope no nsfw games will be announced.
What i hope for are:
-Net High
-Tokyo Xanadu
-ukyo no shishi/roushi
-luminous arc infinity
-summon night 6
-crows burning edge(if good)
-i'll never give up on night of the true kamaitachi
-and yeah the announced today uppers
-someone gimme that psp yugioh game!
-and others that now i don't remember.

The original Luminous Arc wasn't that great either but I still had a good time with it.
