Always been a Juri fan, but ultimately she didn't get as much play from me as I'd imagined in SF4 because I'm an even bigger Ibuki fan XD
Neither sex? Reminds me of how annoying it was when you get Sena's voice as Platinum in Blazblue. Ick. I wish Sena had been suave or something instead of wimpy and annoying :/ As it is, he's kind of a weak personality next to the foul-mouthed antics of Luna.

True. Effie, Cammy, Juri, Chun-Li and co are very evidently female. I can't think of any with potentially neutral names like Zen :o
That said, rules and patterns are made to be broken :3

My main was chun li in the vanilla SF IV and I endep up changing to Juri due to how much I was playing her. In this new one, I would keep both, since footsies are more useful this time around.

But really, it's gonna be Dhalsim. I'd actually like to see a finesse Sagat, but that won't happen, so yoga lame it is. "People that are in the know have been able to follow and they're pretty smart" = Valle and them had inside info it would be Gief and Sim.

Lets not bring up the inside info bit lol.

It was gonna be either Gief/Sim or Rog/Sagat for a Shadoloo section. People were just fooling themselves into thinking the "Green section" was a "Numbered" Street Fighter and that Alpha was a spinoff. The old thread was golden.
 
There was def some inside info that went around the community. i don't think it was just merely a coincidence Gief/Sim gained a lot of traction.

Charlie's artwork background has Egiptian statues that reminds of the Illuminati ones, Stages don't need to be related to characters. But this one may be related to Charlie (has the illuminati gem in the front) and Urien.

Last classic character guesses

Dhalsim
Makes the most sense. A unique play style that always adds to the roster. Not everyone's cup of tea so would he better if as a starting roster to add character diversity than DLC where not many people will get. If Zangief is the Yang, then Dhalsim is the Ying the opposite archetype. They both gotta be in.

Guile
For story reasons he makes the most sense. All these games were he is looking for Charlie well finally Charlie is back and it would be a shame not to see them reunited. Unless Capcom are thinking of doing story DLC content they should not miss this chance. Also Charlie plays completely different now. Guiles defensive zoning play style is still not represented in SFV.

Feilong
If you look at the original of character selection from the panel. The green section has. 4 WW (Ryu, Ken, Chunli, Zabgief), 2 CE (Vega, Bison), 1 Super (Cammy). To make things all even out which I know is reaching we need one more Super character. And out of all the ones left Feilong is the next best one. The fact that Karins rekka is a V Trigger makes Feilong different enough. And he would animate so well on the SFV engine. Perhaps give him the Bruce Lee yellow jumpsuit and make him pull out Nunchucks as a V Trigger. Oh and give him the 1 inch punch.

Sagat
Same reason as Guile and Dhalsim. He would fit the zoning playstyle. However I just don't seem him considered for the first 16 as I don't think they would leave out 1 of the 4 kings it just doesn't make sense.

Balrog
We don't have boxing represented in SFV and it is such a popular fighting style. However once again I don't think he has the chance simply because it would he odd to have 1 of the 3 kings missing.

Honda and Blanka
They are the most unlikely. Honda is the least popular SF2 character and Blanka had his chance at Brazil Game Show

Deejay and Feilong
I don't think Capcom will consider shit tier characters. Forget the first 16 will they even have a chance as DLC. Besides Necalli stole moves from T. Hawk.

Fixed and Agreed. This is pretty much what everyone has been thinking. There is no "inside leaks" leading to Sim/Gief or people wanting the characters , just common logic. They just made the most sense out of the SF 2 lot.

And yea Rog/Sagat had a good chance too. But after Gief its mostly Sim , Guile has a chance too.

If Akuma is in , I am almost certain he will be an unlockable boss. Doubt hes going to come as the core roster.

We may get one at PGW, but we don't know about the next one right now. It mainly picked up pace because Matt mentioned in an interview that the last remaining classic character doesn't necessarily have to be from SF2. But he also said that it's a character that you expect to see in the series.

After watching that video I am even more sure the final character is dhalsim. Matt just said the people who are in the know kind of figured it out already.

Well gang , I'm throwing in the towel on speculation I think. I was running on the assumption that Ono wouldn't fly all the way from Brazil to New York unless they were planning a double character reveal and since a few characters were shown off at events that could be considered their native countries I put that together to mean either Balrog or Guile were coming back.

As we all know NYCC came and went and nothing was showcased. Whether this was due to the laura leak or if nothing was planned all along I guess we'll never know but at the end of the day that has me left me thinking just about any SF2 character not already in this game is a possibility.

The only strike I still hold towards Dhalsim NOT being it is that we're all assuming Zen/Xen is the "new" Indian character so if he's perhaps a south east Asian (maybe singapore/malaysia) I guess that could still leave Dhalsim. Others in this thread have pointed to Sagat being a staple of the series so maybe he's back ? Others still think maybe Akuma is in but I'd be amazed if they put Akuma in as a starting character when he could easily be a hidden character/DLC like always.

We can probably all agree that Blanka is out for this entry - between Laura and Necalli I think aspects of his appearance and playstyle have been adapted into brand new characters. Not to mention that I think he would have been announced last week.

I've been mostly wrong with my predictions and I'm feeling downtrodden about making any more but I guess - 1 last go around the block :

Dhalsim - Case for him - he offers a unique playstyle that even in the huge USF4 cast stands out , SF5s' initial 16 are largely a unique bunch and Dhalsim would guarantee it stays that way. Case against him - Outside of Japan and the US , most countries in SF continuity only see 1 representative and if Zen the new guy is from India I think that means they intend to replace Dhalsim with Zen.

Guile - Case for him - He'd be a nice counter style to Charlie , keep him traditional charge based, high damage normals using character, plotwise it makes sense to have guile fight his undead friend. Case Against - Might not be unique enough ? plot could also see him get hurt by charlie so he's incapable of fighting.

E. Honda - Case for him - I really don't have one actually , sorry Mike Ross. Case Against - It's E. Honda and on a more serious note I think Necalli is similar enough.

Blanka - Case for him - could still be pretty unique given the current selection. Case against - it seems like no one likes fighting against him and blankas fans know it :P , also Laura and Necalli as mentioned above steal his better aspects.

Balrog - Case for him - SFV does need more non-white, non blond characters, SFV still has no boxing character. Case against - but balrogs playstyle unless heavily tweaked could end up too similar to Necalli

Sagat - Case for him - he hasn't missed a street fighter outside of SF3 so he's about as classic as you can get , there's also no "evil shoto" type character in the starting cast. Case against - maybe he could use a break ?

Fei Long - Case for him - He's Bruce Lee. Case Against - there's a couple of pretty similar rushdown characters in the game as it is , might be better as DLC.

T.Hawk - Case for him - none, sorry Thock fans. Case Against - We've got a cooler looking aboriginal character with Necalli (although I just realized he's supposed to be a cannibal and that's uh... ) and the game has too many grapplers as it is. I don't think people even want Thock back really.

Dee Jay - Case for him - SFV does need more non-white, non blond characters. Case Against - I'm not sure if his playstyle suits SFV so he'd need some pretty major tweaks, he's also not overly popular so his inclusion would please no one.

Akuma - Case for him - he's a staple villain in the series and hasn't missed an entry since his introduction. Case against - but he's usually a hidden boss or a bonus character added later.

so that's about all I can say about that , read between the lines a bit and I am hedging some bets there - If Xen/Zen isn't actually Indian I feel like Dhalsims chances shoot up tremendously , probably 50/50 otherwise. Outside of that I still feel like Guile would work quite well , followed by Balrog or Sagat. The rest of the cast I don't think has a chance. So I suppose that means I have a 1 in 4 shot at being right and Dhalsim has been rumored for a while ... who knows right ?

Like I said, where's Sakura on that list who's can be considered classic and is well-recognized character? As well she's in Alpha and 3rd Strike.

She's in 3rd Strike?

I think Sakura is probably the best shot as a non-SF2 character to be considered "classic." She was in the Vs. games, the Alpha series, Rival Schools, SF4, etc. I still think she'll be DLC, though.

There many things against Sakura and she wasnt in 3S.

Sakura is definitely considered a classic and she's popular. But theres already 3 characters from Japan , on top of which she doesn't really bring anything new in terms of play style.
Sakura was DLC even in SFxT , She also brings nothing new in terms of visual design like her moves etc.
 
Very little chance of Zen being Indian, imo. Capcom emphasized branching out to other markets, and that's been reflected in the new characters. Necalli for that Aztec vibe (though they should've just made him speak spanish tbh), Laura for dat brasileira, Rashid for my middle eastern bros and girls & Zen for....

Well, if you'll notice, India has already been heavily represented in SF lore (albeit by one awfully designed character). Therefore I'm going to guess that Zen is from like Indonesia.
