Is it just me or is there precious little hype for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate?

The game is out in less than a week and, for a big-selling series that's accustomed to sitting comfortably among other annualised holiday season juggernauts, it just seems to me like there are very few people who actually give a shit this time around. I don't want to prematurely declare that the franchise has been milked to the point that commercial interest is starting to wane significantly... but it sure does seem that way!

Is the unfinished glitch-fest that is Unity entirely to blame? Do people not dig the Victorian setting? Are we just at that point where there have been so many Assassin's Creed games now that we've reached overkill? I'm curious.

Maybe they think brand name will sell this game mostly by itself?

I think people were burned by Unity and franchise fatigue. Perhaps they want to avoid negative press? Rogue was actually quite good though, so who knows how this one will turn out.

There's certainly a lot less interest here and on other gaming sites I visit. I'm not sure that alone is a good predictor for broader market trends, though.

How did Unity and Rouge sell anyway? I heard they pushed less units combined than IV did alone.

Weird! It's almost like a streak of disappointing games (excepting Black Flag) has hurt the series' reputation.

When people are surprised to know the game comes out next week, then you know there is something wrong. I wonder if this will be a "sleeper" hit.

As someone who has bought every AC day one and enjoyed them all to varying degrees, my interest in this is exactly zero. I'm just done. They need a 2+ year wait and a reboot for me to be interested again.

I just realised it comes out next week.

I've bought every main AC and I'll buy this one but I think that might just be because I'm a Londoner and want to see if they do my city well.

It's a case of too much assassins creed in too little time. Unlike the COD's there isn't even a robust and likeable multiplayer component to drive it along as well.

Thank fuck Ubi aren't pushing out annual Watch Dogs either.

I lost interest with the series after a terrible Unity and god awful character and setting of the new game (no offense UK, just not my cup of tea).

I've seen more hype for this year's CoD, and that franchise has been declining for years. I have to imagine that it's a combination of Unity being completely broken and the fact that Ubisoft released TWO games last fall (Unity and Rogue), plut they released that side scrolling Assassin's game in April of this year. That is Guitar Hero levels of saturation on the marketplace, no wonder no one cares that yet another game is coming out.

Its not even on top 20 on best selling Amazon.com list

And game comes out this week? Its going to bomb hard.

Is the unfinished glitch-fest that is Unity entirely to blame?

For me personally the answer is yes. And it's not just because Unity was a bug-fest and had bad performance on consoles. It also didn't feel like they had evolved the gameplay enough. The controls, for instance, still felt bad, despite the effort that they had put in.

That makes me feel like Ubisoft does not deserve a pre-order or the full price for another AC game. I have played all games in the series, but this time I will wait a few months. Syndicate suffers the same fate that CoD:Advanced Warfare suffered. Despite being a better game—assuming that this is true for AC:S—it will do worse than the predecessor, because when a game fucks up, it's the sales of the successor that suffer.

And then, there is also the fact that one game every year just is too much.

I would imagine the marketing first starts closer to launch and post-launch. If Ubisoft have created a solid and good game in Syndicate, then they can use the positive impressions from press and fans in their marketing and go "See, this is cool".

But Syndicate will without doubt sell less then Unity, it's not the bad game that ruins the franchise but the game following the bad game.

But the franchise will bounce back next year when they have a better handling on their engine and the movie will combine to a interesting marketing push for the franchise.

Let's just say it. Black Flag should've been a new franchise that has nothing to do with Assassin's Creed and they should build on that.

Can't wait to see how it'll sell though compared to unity. Larger install base and all.

Yeah its over saturation. Maybe they're relying on people just automatically purchasing it the way they buy FIFA every year for instance. I've never actually played an.AC game but they're all blurring into one atm, just with slightly different settings. The super Essex boy accent of the guy in the trailer puts me off this from the off. Sounds overacted lol.

They should have made an AC game set during World War 1 or 2.

Assassinating Hitler would definitely have been something new and exciting.

I buy these every year and I still like them, even Unity which apparently sucks and I just missed the memo.

I'm on hold for this one for a couple reasons. Mainly the setting seems forgettable, and they don't seem interested in salvaging the burning wreck they created in their own fiction (Desmond timeline). It'll probably still be good, albeit called "shit" here.

The OP is not the first to notice the almost total lack of anticipation surrounding Syndicate. Indeed, it's like Ubisoft are sending this one to die.

They lost Desmond, they lost me.

I feel the opposite. That should've been the shot in the arm the series needed, a break from its convoluted shit story starring Blandy McBoring. And Black Flag was indeed that. It was just an anomaly, it seems.

I'm interested! But only due to it being London based. Definitely wait for reviews to hit though before I'll commit.

Honestly, is there really anything to be hyped about in regards to this game? =

We have so much really long awaited games this holidays which I think most people would prefer to get over this... Ugh.

The only "hype" I've really seen was this video from DYK Gaming

And it's a sponsored video paid by Ubisoft (the dislikes really show this).

Guns would be an issue, and has always been in the series. It's not fun to climb on a building when troops on the ground can just aim a gun and kill you.

It's a problem they will need to tackle sooner or later, when they move away from guns that are single shot and reload, to automatic guns.

They took the sword(s) away, that's foolish. Who wants to get into fist fights with drunken Brits.

The setting is cool and the environments are impressive., but through what I've seen of gameplay and trailers, it just looks so dull and boring. And the whole "Assassin's Creed" part has nearly been dropped. Being an assassin was meaningful in the first two games, but now it just seems like any random person who wants a revolt or revolution can call himself assassin. Most importantly, the gameplay looks insanely boring. I hope the game will surprise, but indeed, there's just no hype to be had.

Was a big fan of the series but not played it since Black Flag (which I enjoyed a lot), don't miss it at all to be honest. Still have series fatigue with it :\

That's true for me, at least. You have Fallout 4, Halo 5 and Battlefront on the way; it's hard to get excited about yet another AC game in light of all that.

Last game broke me, didn't even finish it, now this time I'll wait and look at reviews before I decide to jump in again.
