Do any of you actually wear a fedora?

Which of these socially questionable clothing items do you use?

I wear a black shirt and jeans every day of my life.

What should I be wearing instead?

Edit: Also what shoes ARE acceptable if skate shoes are out?

I personally am in the market for a new pair of shoes.

You may be thinking of skate shoes too broadly, but I imagine the poll is referring to stuff like this.

With jeans I'll wear Clark boots or New Balance 574's. The 574's can certainly look wrong our out of place in some outfits so just be mindful of colors. I'd like to get a pair of Red Wing Beckhams but I suspect they'll wreck my feet. When I'm in shorts I'm wearing my Adidas leather sambas, but short tongue. Some people like Nike Killshots for a short/spring/summer shoe, but they can be narrow.

Regarding polos and shorts I totally understand the hate around them. More often than not shorts are too long for a lot of people. Shorts, especially cargo or jean, going past the knees just look sloppy. You don't have to buy salmon colored shorts, but just be mindful of length.

As for polos more often than not they just look sloppy. Too long or too baggy. In general I just don't like them as they remind me too much of "IT helpdesk guy" kind of attire.

I remember this one dude who wore a fedora in my last quarter of multivariable calculus. He really didn't like me or seemed antagonistic. He had a neckbeard and wore hoodies + jeans. (Not overweight, he was skinny). Maybe because I really didn't talk to him a lot, but he did come off as kinda pompous. Maybe it's just the way he talks lol.

The whole style though, just seemed mashed together and doesn't look right. Though, I probably shouldn't really be criticizing since my own sense of fashion really does suck. I just go to class with a tv shirt and basketball shorts. Much more comfy rofl.

This is how I imagine most of FedoraGAF.

That's right. Let's all cringe.

Cargo pants are awesome for hiking. I typically put mutli-tools, LED Flashlight, and a few other things in those pockets while I hike.

They're also great for carpentry. I can put my tape measure in one and L Bracket in another.

They're so useful. Until yesterday (and that shitty article on Huffington Post a few weeks ago), I had never ever heard of people dissing cargo shorts/pants. I guess it's the cool thing to do?

Cargo pants are absolutely shitty. You should have worn stylish skinny jeans on your hike and simply dumped all your multi-tools into a cool looking satchel that you'd have to swing around and dig into anytime you wanted a device.

This thread is really amusing. I don't think fedoras look good on most guys, but to each their own. If there's anything this thread has taught me it's 1) the most "unfashionable" people are the most comfortable with sharing photos of how they dress and 2) no matter what you wear, certain people will think you look awful and certain people will think you look great.

I respect the old timers who've accomplished enough in life and gotten to an age where they can say, "Fuck the rest of you. I'm wearing my Hawaiian shirts and khaki shorts and you can't do diddly dick about it."

Man, you posted the WASPy Bros in Salmon Shorts meme. I wouldn't call this a good example.

They look well dressed. Just because you associate something with a certain kind of person doesn't make it bad...More importantly, they look incredibly comfortable. Give me a pair of shorts and a button down any day.

Are steteco allowed to be fashionable, because my wife has gotten me addicted to these things.

They're so damn comfortable.

I went off polo shirts when I got a complex that skinny guys look stupid in them. Plus I'm only 5'7" and nice polos from like Ralph Lauren are reeaaaaally long on me even in their smallest sizes. So on the wrong guy they're questionable, but someone with great arms and a decent chest will fill a polo nicely.

Cargo pants are perfect for hiking. In all honesty I even used to have a pair for track days, because throwing a bunch of tools in the side pockets was legitimately helpful, and they were cheap enough that I didn't care about smearing grease and dirt on them. That said, they don't make sense outside of these limited scenarios.

TL;DR, cargo pants are useful for somethings but look terrible and unnecessary for daily use. Wear basically anything else, unless you're on a hike.

EDIT: The point here is context guys.

Bowtie is ludicrous.

Come on, what else would you wear with a tux.

That's fine, but the overwhelming majority of the time you're not wearing a tux, so don't wear a bowtie. Cargo pants are fine on a hike or construction site, but not anywhere else. Graphic tees are totally acceptable if you're chilling on your couch, alone, watching TV. All of this stuff, with the exception of most of the hat choices being discussed ITT, are fine within a specific context. The problem arises when you start going about a normal day while wearing these things.

transparent?

Blessedly not. They are made of stretchy fabric, have a specific cellphone pocket and they include free tailoring. Like a cross between jeans and khakis. They were soooooo freaking comfortable. Plus I can roundhouse people in the face before I go home to Starla.

ABC stands for "anti ball crushing " and I am not joking. Literally in the literature about the gusset design.

Why gaf hate skinny jeans?
GAF hates everything. But they also love everything.

The skate shoe thing is the most shocking for me. I mean, I'm obviously not going to wear them to a wedding or a fancy club, but day to day I wouldn't wear anything else.

Then again I live in a hippie mountain town and not the financial sector of a major city...

Ahh I am also 5'7". I found a good short polo like 8 years ago, bought every color and still wear them now and then. I'm trying to move away from polos a bit, but practically all the nicer non-tee-shirt casual stuff with buttons and or collars is too long. I'm not against tucking in, but I'd like some of those untucked button deals too. It is very frustrating.

Where can a shorter dude shop? (On a budget too)
