what do you think of Disney Adults?

We're talking about the extremes here (visiting Disney every month / week, sleeping under Star Wars blankets, that sort of stuff), but adults desperately looking for comfort and escapism in things obviously meant for kids probably have some [unknown] trauma that needs resolving.

They're basically larping as a kid and I don't think it's psychologically healthy at all. Millennials (typically) refusing to "grow up" is a pretty big issue that goes beyond going to Disneyland every week.

It's definitely an interesting phenomenon. I'd watch a documentary interviewing some of these people. They're probably fairly wealthy to go to these parks so often, so they clearly are high functioning adults. All of us on this board are living out an extended childhood more than previous generations. Gaming in general used to be mostly for kids, but now caters to adult whales while kids are dropping off. It's a broader aspect of consumerism than just Disney. Look at some of the insane $1000 Lego sets that are out there these days. We are all Disney adults.

To add onto this... I saw an article not long ago that showed toy sales are more and more going towards adults. Not just Legos.Toys. Go down the toy aisle at your local Walmart. I guarantee you'll find He-Man, Gi Joe, Care Bears, Ghostbusters etc. All of these toys have no relevance to kids today. It's bizarre.

Who gives a shit. Let folks have fun I say.

People say the same thing about grown ass men that read comics, play video, graffiti on walls, or play in a band that's not famous. As long as it's not hurting anyone I say you just let people be.

(Except Cowboys fans who aren't from Texas, those people are weirdos )

I do feel bad for kids that so much "kids media" is actually aimed at people in their 30s and 40s. Let them have their own stuff rather than just rehashing stuff from decades ago.

I like anything pre 2000 Disney. After that it varies, and the last ten years is just down right painful. Grownups who downright buy anything and everything Disney are a disgrace to society.

I fell down some IG Disney influencer rabbithole

some people really like Disney. like they visit the park multiple times a week and go on a Disney cruise every month. you can even live in a Disney home

I tried looking it up and found this video which isn't very helpful

what do you think of Disney Adults

My wife's a Disney adult and let me tell you, it's nothing like what's in that video (though it's Papameat, his entire deal is going overboard for fun. He's said himself he's aware not all adults who enjoy Disney are like this).

We go to Disney World like twice a year, she doesn't push people out the way when we're there we just wait in line like everyone else, and she collects pins and Minnie ears but that's really it, not really different from anyone else who collects items they enjoy (if you're here and have paid $200 for a game because of extra items it comes with, can you really be critical?).

We've both seen the stereotype and I always say there isn't much separating that stereotype from the nerd stereotype you see in things like Big Bang Theory.

Also we're on a gaming forum filled with people who call themselves gamers and fight over video games, really feels like a glass house situation here.

I grew up going to Disney regularly and for free. I loved it I was a kid. I still enjoy it but it isn’t what it was in the 80s. And people too obsessed with anything are always weird.

Have a good time, but Disney is designed for children.

I follow a lady who could be technically classified as a Disney Adult but she's far more a geek than pure Disney (tho she loves going to their theme parks)

I find her hilarious as she does this skit called Villain PR... And she's definitely well off financially from working (I know she mentioned it once but I can't remember what it was... IT related, I think).

She's a delight to watch as she goes to DisneyWorld or any of the places like the X-Men Mansion AirBnB ... Her energy is infectious.

Edit: I've never been to any Disney property... I hope to go one day

I used to go to disneyworld a fair amount before kids, Magic Kingdom wasn't that fun but the other parks were great as the food and drink options were good, the rides a little more thrilling, and back then the Disney experience at off peak times was oretty good.

Since kids it's waaaaaaaay worse as they like the crappy rides, magic kingdom is largely an alcohol free hell hole (it's better now, sorta), and they don't have the endurance for lines or patience for shows. It's just 3-4 rides then back to the hotel pool now. And forget a good meal.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I like the rides though, namely the more thrilling or rollercoaster rides.

Does that make me still a Disney adult?

The merch for my child.

It's fine, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it. My ex was that type and we went once, and it was a good time, Disney is a very cool place.

But it's so much better with a kid. I went with my wife and stepdaughter and it was a whole different experience. I have to tell you, bringing a kid at just the right age to Disney and seeing how it ignites their imagination is really something. I'll never forget walking behind the Millennium Falcon and my daughter seeing the engines start to light up and being actually afraid it was about to take off and telling us to get out of the way of the thrusters. Like she bought into the fiction so completely that she believed anything could happen. That shit is magic.

I think anyone who bases their entire personality on any one thing is fucking weird. Be it Disney or whatever.

I've had a nice time at Disney and Universal Studios.

If a child asked to take my place in a queue, I'd be fine with saying no. I'll almost certainly be dead before them, so I have to try and get the good experiences in while I can.

Epcot is for adults. The food and wine festival is great. Epcot is the only place I can hear a female with a French accent in person. Last time I was there I got to hear the employees screaming German at each other, which made me very happy.

Their spring flower & garden festival at Epcot is nice, too. The surf & turf restaurant by the aquarium there is great. I'm thinking of going back in the spring to do Epcot.

I haven't been to Disney in about 5 years, so I'm not a Disney adult. But I do enjoy the occasional trip. I don't really go in for the rides so hitting a couple of parks for shows and seasonal stuff every now and then is fun. I also like staying at the Port Orleans resort and taking the riverboat to Disney Springs. You can get cheaper rooms if you stay elsewhere in Orlando but the convenience of staying at the resort is worth it to me.

So I was never thought much about Disney World or Disneyland until I had kids. When my son was little we took him to Disneyland as a trial run before Disney World. I thought Disneyland was OK but Disney World is awesome. For 1, it is so freakin big, that you really feel like you are in another place. For me it is all about spending family time together and that is the place to do it. If you want to go off and do something, I don't feel like I have to worry about them getting into trouble or trouble finding them. The food is great, the service is great and I have found that it is often the other guests who think they are entitled to everything that usually get on my nerves. I am not someone who gets signatures but we do wait in line to get a family picture taken with characters or I waited for my daughter to get her pictures taken with the princesses. She's now at the age where she's too old for that.

I have also been to Tokyo Disney and if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend because Disney Sea is just so different from anything we have here. They have a journey to the center of the earth ride that is super interesting.

I've been on vacations where I come home and feel like I need a vacation but Disney World is not like that. The biggest pain in the ass about Disney world is pre-trip planning. You really need to plan meals around what park you are going to be in, and you need to plan what park you will be in based around magic hours. But if you really want to eat at a restaurant you enjoy, you need to plan your vacation at least 6 months in advance because you get to book your restaurant reservations 190 days in advance if you stay on site. But for all the work you put in, it's awesome. My wife gets irritated when she wants to plan a family vacation and I immediately say Disney or Universal. I told her, it is perfect for families, we have fun, we know how to do it (we can pretty much plan a Disney vacation in our sleep now), and I never have to worry about anything. Lol my biggest worry is if my wife wants to watch the fireworks on days that are not magic hours.

Tl;dr I love DisneyWorld but not a Disney Adult.

BTW, if you all ever want to plan a stay, rent points through a DVC vendor. You get all the perks for around less than half the cost. Any deal Disney comes out with by booking through them directly usually can't hold a candle to a DVC deal.

I used to enjoy going back 10-15 years ago as a younger adult. Mostly because I enjoyed drinking alcohol at Epcot. But adults that are really in to it now are fucking weirdos.

I don't know if you all got hit by the Tally the Elf videos like I did. All those videos were taken by disney adults.

There is a dating site dedicated for disney adults. If you are sexually attracted to people that look like my avatar, then you are set.

I tried the 1 month free trial but it doesn't have nearly as much material as you can find on regular rule 137\deep fake sites.

When I lived in CA, I had a AP from 2005-2019. Last time I went to the park was two weeks before COVID locked everything down. My friends and I would go about once a month, mostly just to eat at some of the restaurants there. Back in 2005 you could get a no-blockout-date AP with parking for like $500, but 2019 it was almost $2,000 for the highest tier (the last few years I didn't have the highest). But by then they offered monthly payments. I'd pay for the monthly payments using a card that gave rewards points that I would then cash in once a year for a gift card that I'd use for a free dinner at Blue Bayou around Christmas when they had the prime rib.

The problem with the monthly payments though was the lowest tier of APs was less than a Netflix sub each month. So locals would buy that and form biker gangs in the parks. They'd carve out territory and literally get in fights over who owned the Tea Cups.

The video above describes it pretty well.

When Cheapek came in and abolished the AP system for the insanely high-priced and limited Magic Key system, it priced the biker gang idiots out of the park and they've mostly vanished now.
