That's because it films real locations instead of a green color on the wall.

It wasn't just the green screen though, the prequels (especially EP II and III) were incredibly boring in terms of shot composition and editing. Almost every dialogue heavy scene was exactly the same: master shot of characters chatting while walking to establish the elaborate "set", followed by static closeups of each as they delivered their lines.

There was more energy in the camera work seen in TFA's teasers than the entire prequel trilogy.

Can't wait to see the Box Office battle between Star Wars VII and Mockingjay Part 2.

Who will come out on top?

The part with Poe and Finn probably wasn't shot on location. Everything past the lot (And maybe a good portion of the lot) is probably composited in.

The lot itself is a pretty awesome set though, especially if that X-Wing is a complete full-size model.

Actually, it was shot on location, at Greenham Common in England:

Whoa. Surely those bunkers were already there before they shot and they just used them for the set? If not that'd be some pretty hardcore location work lol

Yeah, they were preexisting RAF hangers built for WW2. Fairly appropriate, given the cinematographic and aesthetic influences of Star Wars.

I like the look of the rebel base with the X-Wings. Looks grounded in a way the chrome shiny CG-looking Prequel movies didn't.

This gone be gud, isn't it GAF?

A teaser for a trailer? What is this? The videogame industry?

No, just Disney ensuring this is going to be the most financially successful film ever released. The hype is so real that I'm sitting here staring at a $200 lightsaber and preparing to buy tickets for a movie nearly two months in advance. I've /never/ done that; I don't even preorder games anymore.

There are already a couple of shots in there that I think "that is not Star Wars, that is JJ"

But it's not as if that's surprising. I should probably get used to it....

Every director that comes to Star Wars brings a unique visual identity. Empire doesn't look the same as Star Wars; Jedi doesn't look the same as Empire. This isn't a new phenomenon, and I'd rather JJ not mimic the flat, static cinematography of the prequels anyway.

It needs more screen wipes.

Yeah that is true. And Old Lucas brought a few new visual stylings to the prequels that were harder to stomach than anything JJ brings.

I think the most un-Star Wars like footage is the battle of Geonosis in Episode II. Looks like a bunch of random PS2 CGI intros haphazardly edited together. Some really distracting zooms in that.

We're going to hear dialogue from the new characters in the full trailer, right? I don't think I've heard Ridley, Boyega, Driver or Isaac say a word in character yet. Well, other than Isaac's "Wooooooooooooooo!"
