That was IX, and it was a rumor, but JJ doesn't want the gig anyway. Probably too big of a production on too quick of a turnaround for him.
JJ doesn't want the pressure. He even wanted Force Awakens to be delayed so that he could have more time.

Some pre-production filming for Star Wars VIII was actually done last month. If Abrams was doing VIII he would be working on it right now before TFA is even released. That would be madness.

This will be the big kahuna. Probably between 2 and a half to 3 minutes. There's already been two teasers and we're two months out from theatrical release, which is typically when we get the full trailer.
