Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

I played the PC beta for 30 hours and it took me that long to get around 10k FM. That was with a 90% win rate too. I really think it's gonna take that much to unlock a character. They want casuals to buy them. People who are crazy and play too much like me will be able to unlock them.

Lmao if you guys think characters are going to be that cheap then your guys are going to be seriously disappointed. They made it clear that players that are dedicated to the game are.most likely the ones getting rewarded. Not someone that can get it in a day.

5000 is one hundred victories. You are not getting more than one victory every five minutes (especially when you calculate the time it takes to get a match, the load screen when that happens, the match itself, and the upload/win screen). Even if you are a brilliant player, and you don't lose a match, and you play without breaks, it will still take you close to eight and a half hours to get those points.

Now, that is an ideal, and quite honestly, silly scenario. You can double that time, as you are not going to be getting matched instantly (so there will be more time in between matches), and you aren't going to win every match. So, more realistically we are looking at around seventeen hours.

Most people aren't going to play seventeen hours in a week. Only the hardcore will get close to that (and many of them will have too many responsibilities to put in that much time, even if they want to). It would take weeks for some people to get that one character. So, that seems like a more than reasonable estimate.

Now, I think they could MAYBE get away with as high as 10,000, but they would undoubtedly receive criticism for that move. Probably much more than they would want.

Capcom is looking to create return interest, to keep people coming back, to keep people buying the aesthetic stuff that requires real money. If they make the cost of a character too expensive they will discourage that return visit.

You know, I gotta admit, I'm surprised there's still people posting in here after the Zangief reveal. I mean all the hype just like flew out the window after that you know? Goodbye hype, Zangief ruined it. Game over.

But anyway, Zangief is probably my favorite character in this game animation wise. I'm glad they dropped his goofy cartoon antics from 4 and now just made him completely insane. His victory animation and critical art are both easily the best we've seen so far, I was expecting something ridiculously long and stupid for the latter but I love how brutal it is.

Laura is the least interesting newcomer so far, but I'm still excited for Fan and Tut. If the other characters end up being DLC, I'd be disappointed. I have no love for Ibuki or Alex, Balrog is basically the only SF2 character I don't want to see return, and even though I liked Urien his fans are annoying enough that I kinda just hope he stays away for a while.

I was really excited to post in here that my predictions have been 100% accurate for everything, but I was wrong. Alex and the New York (Metro?) City stage were revealed at NYCC. So I guess I learned a lesson in humility there.

Can't wait to see Sim! Although I think we might have to wait until November, I'm expecting a newcomer in Paris if anything.

Man, you and I have such different opinions to such a high degree that I had to read your post again to see if you were being sarcastic. I really hope they change Zangief's super as, at the moment, I think it looks embarrassingly bad (and that is in a game where about half of the supers look a little crap). I also think his new tornado lariat move looks VERY silly.

You were being sincere with the stuff after your first paragraph, right?

The lariat does look silly, but no more so than the lariat has, and I like the intensity it has because of the steam. The critical art though really is perfect. Zangief wants to hurt you and he wants to hurt you bad. I like that you think he's going to do his normal shtick after the first suplex, but then he just puts you through the fucking floor. It's great! And a nice change of pace. So cool. I guess the difference is that Gief in SF4 felt to me like he wanted to hug you a lot or rough house like an older sibling, and that's the kind of ridiculousness they went for. He's still ridiculous in SF5, but in more of an angry and aggressive "next time I see you I'm gonna tear off your arms" way which I love.

But based on your Cody avatar, you're definitely right about our opinions being polar opposite. Luckily Capcom seems to be catering to me, at least with the initial roster 😁

I don't even necessarily understand what I am seeing when I watch Gief's super... is it, like, a triple take? I am fine with the concept, it just looks wrong.

Cody hate should be a criminal offence. Especially when paired with Zangief love!

P.S. I actually don't have any strong feelings either way towards Gief, though I was really hoping Haggar would take his place.

I can see where the confusion comes from because of the editing, but I got it immediately. He slams you and then like puts all of his strength into two more slams, each ends you further into the ground. Its like how you'd break a larger branch by stepping on it? It's hard to desribe. Seeing it makes me happy.

And I like Haggar but I could go without ever seeing him playable in Street Fighter tbh. Zangief is cool. I'm sure there's a way to make them both work though.

I understand what you are saying but capcom made it clear that fight money wasn't for the casual player base. The dlc schedule they are using is for that player base and the fight money are simply for the players who grind it out to get it for free. Most people are still going to pay for dlc and only players who love the game and spend a lot of time on it are going to get it for free via fight money as a Thanks for being loyal to that game. There will be a lot of flac on their end but they should have made it more clear instead of dancing around that message.

With the current fight money system I would say 100k would be the magic number.

You are insane.

If you are even close to being correct I will start praising your name wherever I go. Because if your insanity is true, then your madness can clearly peer into the future.

I think the characters are gonna cost a lot though. There needs to be an actual incentive to buy them with real money. Those characters aren't cheap to make.

They are selling this 70 euros in Europe.

They don't have the F2P excuse.

16 characters only; no way it requires 10k.

As you said you were winning. For starting people that s like 50 hours for ONE character on a game where they spent 70 euros.

Nah I just don't see it.

Also you seem convinced that it s aimed at casuals; but it isnt .

Casuals have no idea if a character is worth investing into. Like " oh wow dudley ? I ll sure spend 10 bucks on this guy.. "

It s for people that have a life and can't spend more than a couple of hours a day. Casuals are way different as they have no basic fundamentals and play only with friends and for the story.

The price of the base game doesn't matter. These are DLC characters we are talking about. They would be 5 dollars or so a pop even without the fight money system. This just allows dedicated players to get them for free.

This seems really weird... What's annoying about his "fans"?

I never gave him the time in 3S, but I'm praying he'll make the cut for SFV. The current roster needs some more cool/evil vibes rather than all the goofballs we've been seeing lately.

I mean it might be wrong to even call them fans of Urien specifically, but it seems like every post I see that starts with something like "90% of the roster is fucking SF2 characters" (it's only 6 out of 16) is usually followed by something like "where's Urien da gawd" you know? I think it's annoying. All of the "obviously Zangief won't be in. Alex and Urien are in. It was leaked" stuff was really ridiculous and annoying too, but I guess all of those people might not have been Urien fans. I'd be really excited for Gill though if only because I bet he'd look awesome in HD in this engine.

anyone think dhalsim is gonna make the cut?

Oh man, I'm really uncertain.

It can go either way with these last two picks.

For your first point, I genuinely believe that Urien has a fanbase that wants him to return. Same with Alex. I like both and I want to see them as DLC down the road. I couldn't care less about Gill, though.

As for the second point, there's always going to be some annoyances within forums and such. You've got to learn how to shut those things out sometimes or you'll just stress yourself needlessly.

Oh, I definitely believe that there are some people that really want Urien. It's just a lot of the posts I've seen from them are annoying, so I've been turned off from the character somewhat. It's the same reason a lot of people don't #FeeltheBern.

Capcom could also do something where the cost of grinding out characters is very high, but there are some other limited sources of fight money rewards, like achievements or quests (as in HoTS). This makes it easier for casuals to get their DLC feet wet without making it too easy to get the whole roster.

Random thought time: What if FAN is the new character, female and from france? :P (I mention female because we've already had a two playable french boys in SF's character lineup over the years)

Too late. I'm minding.

Lol, goofballs. But yes, I agree with you
anyone think dhalsim is gonna make the cut?

Ayy lmao

Also not sure if people realized, but in the beta, if you beat Bison while playimg as Rashid, he says something along the lines of "give my friend back".

Thoughts?

This was known as soon as Rashid was revealed. :P lol

Rashid is clearly a good guy, and
Bison is an asshole still
.

Im sure fight money is being tuned, the amount you got in the first beta was way higher than the second. Also fm must be earnable of line too. Capcom said dedicated players not very good players

Bison is an asshole still.
Oh my god, spoilers, Batty! Spoilers! :o

Casuals have no idea if a character is worth investing into. Like " oh wow dudley ? I ll sure spend 10 bucks on this guy.. "
Well, once they get punched in the head by Dudley online a few times it might raise their interest in buying him :P
Also, it's entirely possible they'll do something similar to MK where the new characters you haven't bought yet turn up in the single player modes as opponents so you can see them in action to entice you :D

Oh, oh... Fixed!
lol, I did a double take when i checked the thread and saw it was spoiler tagged before I refreshed and your reply came up XD

It's interesting that Bogard's been pretty much on point for Rashid and Laura's names but there's no sign of Zen in the files. The theories that Necalli was originally 'zen' has already been discussed but it's somewhat odd the other two were still accurate if that were the case, just as it's odd that the name is missing in the leaked files.

But yeah, here's hoping for some kind of character tease/reveal, because why not? :3

Little theory I posted some pages ago, about 'Zen'.
What if the initial leak source knew one the new character was 'Indian', but didnt know his name and came up with a placeholder reminiscent of India. 'Zen' always sounded really weird and uninspired even by Capcom standards.
Now a crazy hypothesis, what if the leaker misunderstood the meaning of 'Indian' and assumed it was "from India" while it was "native American"... like Necalli is, being Aztec. In french the word indian ('indien') is used for both meanings.
It always seemed strange to me that Necalli was missing from the leak while he was the very first new character revealed.
Could be totally wrong tho.

I see. Still, I'd much rather see Urien than Gill... He is way too gaudy. Imagine fights between him and Necalli. It'd be a clusterfuck of hair and bright lights. Yuck!

Lol, goofballs. But yes, I agree with you

Don't get me wrong, I love da goof, but I needs me some cool guys who make up for their average penis size with pure rage. (Talking about the likes of Oni and Urien. Gouken doesn't count because he is inverse. Straight-up Nothingness.)

Yeah, I remember you posting it :3

It's an interesting idea but I feel like if that were the case they'd just have said laura, rashid and two characters we don't know the name of. After all, they seem fairly open about not knowing the 4th... if there was any uncertainty it would have been better just to say "someone from india?" XD

Seeing as most people are assuming that TUT is some sort of tutorial character my interest is mostly on FAN now. The fact it has a heck of a lot of bones makes me wonder if it's someone wearing flowing cloth ala Rose, or perhaps a complex hairstyle (though i don't know how many bones Necalli is rocking with those crazy dredds of his)
I don't have any experience of hair/cloth physics though so i'm not sure if they use bones admittedly though.

Thinking of the french thing and 'FAN' I did a lil digging in french names with 'fan' and came up with Fantine, Fantina, Fanette, Fanetta, Fanchone and Fanchon which are apparently all female. That combined with 2 boys and 1 girl in the newcomer category so far lead me to the possibility of a french female newcomer I theorized a few posts ago :3

...now watch as we don't get a character reveal in Paris and my digging around proves to be a complete waste of time :P

As a French guy I can say all those names are straight-up ridiculous and, having a character named like this would be hilarious :P
"Fanny" is a somewhat common name though.

It's interesting to remember how the leak happened, he used an indirect way to do so, he named Pokemons to hint at the characters names and origins. So if he knew about an 'indian' character, and didnt have his name, he needed to come up with one. And maybe he went for the first thing he had in mind when he though about India.

Acronyms are composed of consonants, or vowels if none available, and sf5 filenames seems to respect this rule.
Which means if TUT and FAN are acronyms, and since they contains vowels, the missing letters are necessarily vowels too and not consonants. So it cant be names with more than the 2 consonants we got.
So, for 'FAN', maybe Fani, Fanie? Or whatever strange name Capcom usually imagine.

By the way Sony conference is in 6 hours and still no character teasing by Ono.
The more time passes, the more I doubt we will have an annoucement.

Ono said he'll be signing autographs at this Paris thing. The last time I remember him saying that was the Mexico thing, and iirc nothing came out of that but a very blurry shot of the NYC stage.

Well. He tweeted that he's rehearsing for Sony show so there is something that they could announce today.

And welcome back, Beelzebufo.
