Detroit: Become Human (Quantic Dream) Announced for PS4

You mean the black doctor that treated her like a daughter?

And also don't forget that those mission were successful because of Aiden. For the military she was a just a tool.

Yeah, the black doctor that she used against his will that led to her killing three guys, because who'd have any qualms being used like that, amirite?

And the military's use of her power was still fucking stupid, she can touch a dead person's belongings and relive their final moments, an incredibly useful gift for solving murders, mysteries etc, but instead, they make her do things anyone trained in combat could do just as capably.

Quantic Dream's game director, co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière has begun hiring screenwriters, film directors, and other Hollywood talent to guide Cage on his PlayStation 4 title -- a first for the developer.

"David has so many ideas that Quantic Dream doesn’t have enough resources to put all of these ideas into games," Fondaumière said. "He has grand ideas and concepts. Our job is to turn these ideas into projects. So we are trying to attract talent."

This process has already shown "very positive signs" through Quantic Dream's untitled PlayStation 4 game which is being written by a team of three people, including Cage.

I believe it when we see it/play it. This trailer ain't doing them any favors.

There's just that one strand of hair that gives away the hair's flatness from the front. I'm sure QD can improve on it.

I'm sure that will be the latest excuse for why yet another game setting has nothing but white people. It might actually turn out to be a good thing if the game is as white as the trailer cause I'd hate to hear the type dialogue that David Cage would write for a black character.

Newsflash buddy; there are also white background props who only serve to be set dressing, too.

You are literally complaining over no reason. How'd you feel about Robocop?

We're constantly told that there aren't black people in this setting and that setting because of bullshit historical accuracy concerns and/or demographics, yet we have a game set in a city where the vast majority of the population is black and, even then, black people are nowhere to be found.

I get what you're talking about, but i'm not sure how you watched this trailer and came to that conclusion

It doesn't really matter unless Cage produces something Oscar worthy he won't be allowed to just make a flawed but fun to play (if choose your own adventure is your cake of choice) game.

Awful title. I mean, possibly all-time bad. But I'll wait for more info with great interest. I loved Heavy Rain and even Beyond Two Souls.

Sounds like a video game to me. Doesn't seem worse than most video game narratives we've been getting.

Yeah, it's fucking hilarious. Lots of frustrated people around here.

I'm sure David Cage would be satisfied to hear "eh it's not worse than most videogame stories." Because it's not like he's known for wanting to push videogame narratives deeper than your typical shootbang. Nevermind that he failed his own vision, as long as it's better than Call of Duty, it's acceptable.

People are frustrated because, believe it or not, there are people who like these types of games but are frustrated when it's held back by poor narratives. I like Heavy Rain as a game, but not as a movie or a story. And story is a huge motivation for playing through these types of games. Until Dawn proves that people can do his types of games better.

Right, because for a teenager like her it was so easy to fit in socially. The guy knew her since she was little.

That was the military, not the police. They couldn't care less about solving murders.

Looks great. Loved Heavy Rain so I hope this is a return to form for them. Initial impressions are pretty encouraging. Loved that they went for Kara.

The gaming industry will fall all over itself proclaiming a story composed of elements that would be considered rote in other media to be the greatest thing ever. See: The Last of Us.

Is that why Neil Druckmann was on a show about literature, the show literally only talks about books & they thought TLOU was written well enough to be there, Breaking Bad writers also liked it enough to visit Naughty Dog. When people praise the writing in the game, nobody ever said the setting was unique, people were talking about the characters, the world, & the world building. No offense, but you're making up a reality, & then using that reality to present your argument.

I'm aware that Detroit is a primarily black race city, but take note how I said "trailer" and not game. Just because the black race wasn't featured in the trailer, it doesn't mean there won't be any black people in the game. You lot are just nitpicking now and besides, it's the future, racism is on the rise in most of the world and it could be a case where black people were drove out of Detroit. We don't know the full story yet so let's just leave it at that.

I agree that people should wait until the full game is out to make hard judgements, but you also have a track record to reference here. Nothing Cage has done prior really inspires faith that he's considering racial politics when writing a script like this. It's a topic he's never really touched before, so it seems realistic that it won't be a factor here either.

It's very similar to the Kojima/Quiet scenario. People saw that costume, and knowing Kojima's frequent habit of dressing women in provocative outfits just for titilation's sake - figured that'd be the case there as well. Yes, people didn't know the 'narrative justification' at the time, but they (rightfully) assumed it would be horseshit.

Overall I'll wait for the full thing to make a call on it, but I don't see a strong reason to have hope.

Hey how about you buy some fucking eyes so that you don't pass for a total moron ?

People are frustrated because they love to troll.

David Cage has been the same writter since the very beginning. At this point people should know what to expect with him. If you didn't like the first two games, why keep going into David Cage threads to shit on everything?

I mean, I really don't like Gears of War. Do you see me in a Gears of War thread saying how bad I think it is? At this point in time it's been established that David Cage has a certain style. If people hate this style so much, why do they keep following news about what David Cage does?

There is clear proof in this very same thread that people are just bitching for the sake of the "meme". Hell, look at the people complaining about "no black people in Detroit". Did they even watch the trailer? Or did they just saw a troll post, assumed it was true and just repeated it to jump into the bandwagon?

I love my Cage games. Always and forever. Coming to America, Android edition!

I really wondered if they would ever go back to Kara, and I really love the setting. I think with some hilariously bad writing, this could be wonderful. So many feels, robots coming alive! I can't wait for all the silly little things to interact with!

Cage's rendition of Philly in Heavy Rain was pretty horrible. So here's to hopefully a better script writing team, and more cultural awareness!

Looks amazing! Beyond was a letdown compared to HR which is the goat game in this genre. The premise looks great, and the visuals are absolutely insane.

Because I actually like his games, but I think his writing fucking sucks? Just like I like MGSV but think the story is godawful?

He's literally making up an argument to have an argument. It'd of been one thing to say "why isn't the lead a black female?". It's a totally different thing to say "there are no black people there whatsoever" when you don't even have to look for them in the various shots of the trailer, they're just there naturally.

Such a pointless sword to fall on when the evidence is against them.

What's your point?
That you may need to get an eye exam, at the very least.

Or, Heaven forbid, what qualifies as "black" to you?

Pretty much. He's nowhere near one of the great gaming writers, but he's one of the few that seems to either have to be absolutely amazing, or downright totally shit. Most who don't do scales in black or white will see he handles some things reasonably well, other things not so well, and all round is just an average game writer. The types of games he keeps making though fill a part of the industry that some have come to enjoy (choose your own adventure), so there is a market for the games even with flawed story telling.

I will say he does himself no favours with the way he presents himself, but eh, a little charisma doesn't hurt at times. We all know his emotions shtick well by now.

Right, because for a teenager like her it was so easy to fit in socially. The guy knew her since she was little.

That was the military, not the police. They couldn't care less about solving murders.

And Jodie could care less about who she's killing.

"Jodie, see dis guy? Go kill him!"

"Mmm, sure thing boss, let's bone before I head out on the mission!"

'kills her target among many, many others'

'realizes from the news the target was a good guy, that she's been lied to'

"OMG, why didn't you tell me who my target really was! Why did I just say how high when you said jump! Why didn't I think about this a little longer than not at all!"

Every time I play a David cage game I spend more time critizing the story and writing than any other game I play.

But I enjoy them because they're actually trying something different. Yes, he comes up short in execution pretty much every time, but they're extremely unique games. After The Last of Us and Life is Strange, I do hope he's pushed himself to get it right this time, and this is the game I've wanted him to make since the Kara demo so I couldn't be more excited.

A story angle that has been used many times in movies and other media, what's your point?

Did you watch the trailer? There are plenty of black people in the trailer.

Was looking forward for a new QD game, but not anymore. I just feel that Android/humanity story has been done so many times, and done very well back in the 1990s.
And I doubt that David Cage has reached the level of Phillip K. Dick.

And with interactive storytelling receiving some great titles this year (Life is Strange, Tales from the Borderlands, Until Dawn) I just have a feeling this game is getting ready to be underwhelming.

....."black race"? Dafuq?

Wow, so they're gonna use androids to explore the idea of "What does it mean to be human?"

holy shit what an idea

why haven't every single piece of sci-fi fiction done this before

I hope she comes into contact with ROBOT RACISM, it could be a powerful allegory

I'm exited for this game, but holy shit this post broke me :D

David Cage gotta David Cage, but he has made good stories. Heavy Rain + the first half of Fahrenheit are really good. Beyond sucked ass, but here's hoping it was just a fluke.

Honestly to me the most exiting thing about this game, is that he'll probably steer clear of the supernatural elements this time, since we're firmly in sci-fi territory. The supernatural elements is where all the previous games has had the biggest problems plot wise, so lets just get that shit out of the way and stick to a more straight forward story.
