Detroit: Become Human (Quantic Dream) Announced for PS4

Do you control the game's output/character´s actions with your controller? Yes?

It's gameplay, then.

That's a pretty basic understanding and you know it. But you aren't exactly playing? are you? you are pressing a button or buttons quickly to start another action in between a cut scene?

This is the difference between a picture book and a regular book.

Its not trolling. I'm asking do you actually play it. Because its almost surely going to be a QTE game. Despite how pretty it looks.

If you played QD's games, you know there will be QTE. And if you are not interested in them, then this might not be for your either. All you doing right now is trolling basically.

Unneeded.
No offence dude, but "is this a game?" kind of posts are even more unneeded. Yes, by every definition known to mankind this will be a game, even if it consists 90% of QTEs. Accept that. If it doesnt fit your personal interpretation then thats fine, but label it as such.
Going back to their games: They contain direct gameplay such as exploring your environment, walking around in 3rd person and occasionally stealth and cover gameplay. And of course QTEs and choices. There is a lot of game in there

I want the male CG model they used for Ethan and NomNom Jayden to be reused for this game. Maybe as male sexbots.

WAT?

Also, don't use Detroit if it's not an accurate representation of the city because people are not going to be happy about it. Just set it elsewhere you are familiar with, Cage.
I think you are overestimating the amount of people that give a shit about that place.

I really fail to be offended by the "attempted rape" scene in Beyond. Its entirely avoidable in 2 different ways and you should avoid it if you play even semi smart. For instance if you feel uncomfortable in the bar you can just decide to leave again and skip the entire thing. I had to look up the scene to even get what some people were talking about, as I never encountered it. Considering the "attempt" is so short, non-graphic and actually has repercussions for her character later on I really cant find much issue with it. Sure it was unneeded perhaps no matter which decision you do, but I cant really be outraged at it. The Heavy Rain dream scene was straight up attempted murder and I see no hint of rape in there.

It's not a matter of whether it's offensive or not. I don't give a shit whether it's offensive or not. It's the fact that it's a cheap shot at the audience in order to provoke an emotional reaction which he uses multiple times. The rape isn't even the main problem I have with Cage's writing, his total lack of subtlety and bizarre tone jumping is. I only brought up rape in the first place because given the fact that the game is a Pinnochio story with a female protagonist, and David Cage is a slave to cliche, a poorly written semi-philosophical rape scene is completely inevitable. His stories play out like he wrote a bunch of scenes first and then cobbled together a full plot out of them. In Beyond, the problem is exacerbated by the fact that you jump around to random parts of the story with no rhyme or reason as to which scenes go where. In Heavy Rain, it's the unexplained blackouts and the terrible implementation of the unreliable narrator in order to get a cheap twist out of the ending. (I am aware that the blackouts were originally because Ethan was supposed to have a psychic connection to Shelby, but that would have actually been worse. Also, when that was cut, why didn't they remove the blackouts from the game?) It was also obvious in Indigo Prophecy with the whole kung-fu powers thing that happens and the random prophecy child and AI internet monster out of nowhere, but I can't really bring that up because he wrote it like 10 years ago.

That's a pretty basic understanding and you know it. But you aren't exactly playing? are you? you are pressing a button or buttons quickly to start another action in between a cut scene?

It's gonna be a game. QTEs may be slightly boring and overdone, especially in games with a narrative focus, but they're still gameplay.

Kinda out of the loop, but I don't fully get why people don't like David Cage. It seems that he is pretentious and pompous, and has that sort of writing style, I guess?

Pretentious, Pompous, writing is full of plot holes and stupidity, doesn't flow well, predictable and cliche.

The first two are not a problem on their own, but they make the others on that list inexcusable.

Take me to Detroit!

Like all games are from Quantic Dreams, Day 1 for me. I love all their games since their first one - The Nomad Soul.

I do hope this game will be fully contained and not end with sequel-bating like Beyond ended. I want to see the robot uprising and not have the game end implying that it has just begun.

So are you here just to stir up trouble with those of us who are excited about the game?

Some people have valid criticism of the man and dont like his writing, which is fine. Then there are people who act like David Cage killed their dog, which is just sad, especially since he actively tries to improve.

I loved Heavy Rain (and Until Dawn, but it was from a different developer), and enjoyed Beyond: Two Souls for the most part, so I'm looking forward to this.

Looks good, but has a bland name.

Quantic Dream is still the king of rain. Drops actually having a realistic looking impact is so cool to see:

Clothing is really sweet in general. Hyped to explore this city

All those Cage haters lol. Nomad soul shits all over you.

Cage is a pioneer whether you like him or not.

As for QTEs...

It s not the walking dead. And it s not until Dawn either.

Qtes in a QD game is a choice. Just because there is a prompt doesn't mean you have to press it.

It s more of the interface of the game than actual QTEs.

They did have QTEs for action scenes ( that you could still decide to "fail" to take another path; or gets your character beaten up a bit or whatever ).

Walking dead has you pushing a key like a moron; you fail it restarts. Lol.

His games are excellent. Heavy Rain was one of the top 5 games on the PS3 for me last year along with Demons Souls/Dark Souls/Dark Souls 2 and Uncharted 2.

I like that he does something different and creates such amazing atmosphere in his games.

I hope that Re-Release of Heavy Rain, Beyond etc comes out for PS4 before this new game does.

After Until Dawn it's clear that there are plenty of people who are fine with a good interactive experience, the operative word being good.

I hope this game manages that. It's such a familiar topic I'm doubtful, but maybe Cage can pull it off and subvert a few of the common elements.

This doesn't have the consistency of The Order to look like a CGI movie (Kara's eyes and hair are giveaways), but considering Detroit looks to have quite a bit going on in the player's presence, it is no doubt incredible. It makes me hopeful that despite the player outcry over the aspect ratio of The Order, games may hit similar to The Order's fidelity but in full 1080 by the end of the gen.

It's not just still images. The animation is not up to The Dark Sorcerer demo.

Sure their scope is larger with this game, but one still can't help but be disappointed considering what they had shown before. TDS is just on another level...on every level. I rewatched the whole video earlier and it still looks fucking amazing, and it's two friggin' years old already.

Didn't the characters in this have over a million polygons? I think with the amount of characters they have on screen here they couldn't achieve a level of consistency. Still I find what they have shown extremely impressive visually. The environments in particular have made huge strides.

I'm glad Kara is going to be an actual game, the tech demo seemed really interesting to me.
Dunno how I feel about the title, I'll probably just call it Kara.

QTEs can be good depending on a number of factors, like-

if the button presses are ingrained into the player in such a way that they know a certain button has a certain action or movement type, they'll more naturally go for that button when the character on-screen is performing a corresponding action during a QTE.

if they are sufficiently forgiving or give you multiple ways to 'win'. allowing the story to change dynamically, if only slightly, is a good way to not beat the player down with the QTEs and accept a degree of failure as part of the player experience.

if they use win/fail binary states as an acceptable challenge after giving the player sufficient training earlier on

if they use audio/visual cues to let the player know this is a QTE sequence and they should pay attention

i dunno how i feel about detroit yet. david cage games have a capacity to shit the bed in one way or another, usually narratively.

Your typical Cage bashing is far more cringeworthy than anything he has written.

There are even more people who are already fine with David Cage's style of interactive experiences, considering both his PS3 games outsold Until Dawn so far and plenty of people like them. They should certainly take a few hints from Until Dawn though.

I hope that Re-Release of Heavy Rain, Beyond etc comes out for PS4 before this new game does.
No way they won't. You are safe in that regard.

Hopefully the other writers and directors kept his crazy in check this time. At least Cage seems to work well with sci-fi, so I'm optimistic.

Yup they have over a million polys each. Its possible if they went with Heavy Rain sized areas I guess, but its pretty apparent they shot for something more ambitious here. Considering the crazy detail even random NPC xy has, archiving Sorcerer graphics levels outside was certainly impossible. Its as or even more impressive in different ways though.

Lol yeah.

Lol yeah.

Probably they have 4-5 modelers modeling NPCs day and night, irrespective of project at hand. These "extras" we could see in different games, I wouldn't mind if I spotted a few of them in their next game!

(Since base models could be billion poly's for all I care, they can be used on any future project on any hardware.)

"Less than an object, just an obedient machine".

How is that less than an "object"? Also felt some serious overacting there.

Expecting typical Quantic Dream stuff here. Great graphics, cool premise, godawful writing. Genuinely can't see how people still get hype for this.

This game must have the most haters AND lovers of all PGW. Out of all new threads from the Sony conference the one with the most posts is this one.

Love him or hate him Cage must've done something right.
It's probably because:

If the game is not completely broken, Cage has already won. People were into Kara...a lot.

Looking forward to this. I really love Heavy Rain, it's one of the best in the PS3 library.

Beyond was good but fell apart in narrative for me after the infamous desert sequence but I still largely enjoyed it.

QD games are unique in their storytelling approach and production value so I'm optimistic about getting something awesome here.

Also after sleeping on it, I don't think the title of Detroit is that bad.
Actually it's kinda ballsy :P

Absolutely stunning. And that soundtrack.
Cage never fails when it comes to music. Flawless track record, exactly hits my tastes. Really hope this track gets a standalone release.

Beyond and Heavy Rain had like 10 different NPCs or so for crowd scenes lol This is certainly having a loooot more.

- I loved Heavy Rain
- I love stories about androids and artificial intelligence
- Graphics will be great
-> I'm in :) Love these short games that are interactive blockbusters.
