this is my first ever digital pre order, and there's a countdown clock for until i can play, which just makes things worse!!

first game ever where i'm willing to pay extra just so i can play it the instant it comes out.

You pre-ordered FO on PS4?

I assume pre-load is not live yet?

Really on the fence now about keeping my Pip-Boy edition preorder. $120 is a lot of money for a piece of plastic that I'll only really mess around with once or twice.

Why do I give in to the lure of the limited nature of gaming things?

Mines getting opened and displayed in my glass cabinet along with my fallout 3 statue edition and lunchbox edition and new vegas casino set. It will look awesome.

It was probably that Todd Howard line at E3

"Usually I find second screen experiences... they're just stupid gimmicks... but as far as stupid gimmicks go, I assure you, this is the best fucking one I have ever seen"

It's not designed well either. They could have made it look worn out instead of so shiny and clean. I would also prefer if they included the regular game case along with the metal one like Konami did with MGSV LE.

Maybe I'll still take delivery and then decided if I want to keep it.

Hoping there are some early reports on XBone vs. PS4 performance, still on the fence about which version to go with. They've said they're both 1080/30 but I'd love to hear from someone in the wild (or even to know what version the review copies are) to know how it runs. PS4 may be more powerful but that hasn't always guaranteed the best experience at launch.

Edit: Leaning towards XBone for Fallout 3 and early mods (don't know how much of a benefit that actually is) and the ability to use the Elite controller. Yay or nay? Considering PS4 for possible performance/IQ advantages.

No info yet on any differences for platforms, right? Not sure if i want to do xbo or ps4 yet.

I'm sure XB1 is the lead platform like their past games. 1080p confirms that imo. I would be surprised if the PS4 version has the same issues FO3 did on PS3. The question is will Bethesda take advantage of the extra headroom they have on PS4? Doubt it.

The game has been slammed quite a bit for the graphics ever since its reveal, but i have a feeling there will definitely be plenty of moments where we'll say....''Oh damn, that looks nice.''. The trailer during E3 definitely showed some nice lighting in some indoor locations. Even though the very brief gameplay part in that Fallout Shelter video (the latest one) looks anything but impressive.

I guess it's just the aging engine and to be fair, the protagonist's character models look pretty damn good compared to Fallout 3 and Skyrim.

Getting some awesome Deja Vu, because I also remembering getting Fallout New Vegas on Black Friday a few years back, one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Stoked as hell to be playing this around the holidays, well into the new year. And not sure why, but I kind of want to move to Boston. Think I'm drunk on hype.

I feel like once this game is in people's hands they'll be quite a bit less critical about the graphics.

I mean, I'm impressed by the visuals, as I've made sure to parrot ceaselessly in every Fallout 4 thread that ends up becoming a graphics thread every Fallout 4 thread, but I totally understand why other people aren't. It's just worth keeping in mind that everything we've seen so far appears to be Xbox One footage, and for all the games that people extol as having way stronger visuals than this (games with engines not responsible for rendering and keeping track of even a quarter as many things at any given time), I can show them Xbox One screencaps that don't look half as sexy as their memories make it seem. I'm going to be playing this game on PC where I know it's gonna look like the shit, one way or another.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting the physical copy of fallout 4 since bestbuy has a 15% discount if you pre-order 2 or more games. Thing is my pc doesn't have a cd drive. Will I be able to just download the digital version from steam with the code included in the retail copy?

How it not designed well? Because it's not painted like it's worn?

Im in the fence as others about keeping my PC Pip Boy pre order. I also pre ordered through gmg cuz I aint waiting 1 week for Amazon to deliver the game so I was thinking of buying both and just selling the Steam key from the pip boy edition. I know I will just use the pip boy once and put it in the box so maybe I will just leave it sealed and sell it down the road when it has more value.

Either way can't wait 2 weeks for this game to come out.

If all that footage was Xbox One i can't complain. That looks good enough for me. Sure i wish it would have looked more similar to games like Witcher 3 and other games of today, but with an upgraded Creation engine which basically is a upgraded Gamebryo engine, you can't expect much else.

Yes

The question is.. will my old rusty GTX 680 2gb VRAM be able to run this at1080p@30fps.
:(

edit: Since it ran WItcher 3 at pretty high settings and 45-50fps im thinking it should.. Come on Bethesda, optimize the shit out of this one.

XBO and PS4 both run it 1080p30, but other than that we don't know about possible IQ differences.

Thanks. I'll probably get it on XBO then. Is Elder scrolls online on the same engine or similar?

You'll be fine. 1080p @ 30FPS seems doable, but not maxed out.

The Witcher 3 was superbly optimised, though.

Probably asked a thousand times already, but is there a preload on PC?

Interesting. Does this stack with GCU?

Expect FO4 to have old good console commands that allow you do some cheats like unlimited carry. Tho expect them also to disable achievements.

You can raise your carry weight with console commands so if you're on PC, you'll be able to do it as soon as you launch the game

Yep I'm on PC but I'm new to the platform. Never knew you can do that!

It would be nice if there was a way to send your dog out to sell all your extra shit.

In any case, I don't remember ever having a serious issue with carrying weight in Fallout 3, because the fast travel system was so generous and there were even trading caravans patrolling the main routes in and out of major areas.

I've never played fallout 3. Now playing new Vegas and the carry limit is really low depending on your build.

There is the strong back perk (Strength level 6) which has three ranks which, to the best of my recollection bestow 1) increases your inventory (carry weight), 2) let's you fast travel while over encumbered and 3) let's you run/sprint while over encumbered - at the cost of action points.

There's perks in this game JUST for you.

I know you can, it's just I wanna put my points elsewhere :-P

Thanks all for the help!

This is what i wanted to ask in relation to VPN and NZ downloading.

So i know you can use a VPN to "trick" steam into letting you pre order the game via New Zealand time which would be +18 hours from where i am i think. Is this bannable? Does steam look into this a lot and actually ban? I know you can't buy and stream but i just want to check my options since i will be buying it on steam first in hopes for the preload.

Question:

my processor speed meets the minumum but my graphics card meets/beats the recommended specs. RAM is also fine.

What does this mean in the way of settings? Like I can jack the resolution but not the bells and whistles? Anti alias etc?

Don't buy the game through a VPN that will get you banned from Steam. Usually what you do is buy the game normally, preload it and then VPN to unlock it.

While no one knows for sure, CPU requirements this generation have been VASTLY overblown for the most part. My guess is that you should be able to play the game just fine; what CPU/graphics card do you have?

Anti aliasing is mostly just something the GPU does. What will put a load on your CPU is settings like draw distance/object detail.

Okay so buy the game on my regular ip, preload it, then when NZ time hits just switch to a NZ VPN and it'll unlock? And then i can just go back to my regular IP and i'll be fine?

You purchase game like you would normally [GMG, own region/country Steam Store...] and do preload when it comes available. On 10th you use VPN only to start up the game. Once game is running just alt tab into windows, put Steam to offline mode and disable VPN. Alt tab back into game and game on!

Don't purchase anything from Steam Store when connected through VPN!

In preparation for VPNing Monday, what's a reliable free NZ VPN. I've used Fly VPN a few times to early unlock but I think that only offers AU for free, but not NZ, could be wrong though.

This is strange. I'm in the UK and it says the release date is 1 week, 5 days and 11 hours away, which would be 8am GMT on Tuesday 10th.

Doesn't matter anyway, got it on steam so I can just use a VPN to unlock it when NZ gets it :D

What is the cheapest digital PC pre-order deal going on now?

Also, have there been ANY solid impressions of the game yet?

Two weeks still? Fuck. I was kinda feeling it was gonna be just a few days for whatever reason. I mean I knew when it's gonna come but... I don't know. Sigh.
