Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Hmm...not a big fan of the layout but hard to argue the rest.

It feels undercooked to me. Too much flat ground and don't like that the only way up is a small staircase on opposite ends of the map. Unless there's a tactical jump I don't know about

There is a skill jump that takes you from the middle of the map to up top close to the rail gun spawn.

I hate those outside ramps. Death trap :/

It's been brought up several times already in the thread, but I do wish the multiplayer maps weren't all so dark and grungy. I'm really not a fan of the art direction at all, and some of the textures are very muddy. Truth and Regret in particular look really bad. It's all a bit of a shame after Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer was so bloody gorgeous.

Don't ask me how but my team just won a warzone with us all lagging like hell, it was lulz but sad at the same time.

Sooo many people kept joining and leaving it was insane

It's completely optional. Just don't request a revive. That's one of the reasons the x button is used for that mechanic instead of it being automatic.

Who was the guy that came up with the idea of doing the new killfeed? It's solid and works really well and now you know exactly how you died without having to incorporate the killcam after every death.

Anyone else get disconnected constantly? Happens to me a bunch and just happened twice in a row.

"You have lost connection to the game server."

Frustrating as hell.

god damn man some fucking teams in warzone are just bad

my team spent the entirety of the fucking match camping at East while the enemy team just picked us off from Garage and West. The worst part is no one fucking tried pushing West but me, and West WAS OUT FUCKING SPAWN POINT. Jesus fucking christ. Most of my team was in the 200 range points at the end of the match,

So I finished the campaign earlier today, and I'm glad to say I'm really impressed by what 343i have managed to put together. The gameplay is best-in-class, and just so much fun at 60 frames per second. It literally never drops a frame. So damn smooth!

Things that really impressed me:

The gameplay; it's absolutely fantastic, and the game is so much fun to play. I haven't had this much fun with a shooter since the very first Crysis. A flawless exhibition of first person shooter gameplay.

Level design. Holy shit, the levels are massive, and that verticality. Climbing up to higher ground, and doing a successful ground pound is one of the most satisfying feelings in a game. There are so many different paths you can take to flank the enemy. So many different strategies you can employ. I really enjoyed the vehicle combat as well. Apart from the level design, the encounter design is top notch. There is never a boring moment in the campaign.

Art direction and visuals: I'm not afraid to say that Halo 5 has some of the most gorgeous art direction I've seen in a game. Some of the levels look mind-blowingly stunning, A couple of levels in particular had my jaw dropped on the floor. So pretty! I'd also like to mention the 30FPS cutscenes. The cutscenes in this game are some of the most impressive looking cutscenes I've ever seen in a game. It makes me wonder what the game could have looked like if it were a 1080p 30FPS game.

Things I didn't like:

The story. It doesn't make a lot of sense, Team Osiris never gets any real development, Blue Team hardly gets any screen time, disappointing ending--it all just doesn't come together as well as you'd want it to. I don't know about others, but the story did absolutely nothing for me, and I don't think I'll even remember much of it in a couple of weeks. It's very weak and very forgettable. Buck was the only character in the game that I liked, to be honest.

The length, I guess? I thought it was a bit short. I play these games for the campaigns so I'm a tad disappointed there.

Overall, I'd rate the campaign a solid 8.5/10. There are many moments of greatness, the gameplay is a fucking blast, and pretty much everything is where you'd want it to be except the story. I hope 343i hire better writers for their next game, so we can have the ultimate Halo campaign, because despite my complaints with the story, this is hands down, the most enjoyable Halo campaign I've played from a pure gameplay perspective. Bungie got nothing on this.

I'm gonna give the multiplayer a shot in a couple of days, but that's not what I play these games for. I'll probably play through the campaign one more time in co-op mode though.

Yeah 99% of my Warzone matches went just about like this. I swear it's a good idea... But as it is Warzone is a mess. Assault is even worse. By the time you're trapped in your base there is almost no point playing. The enemy will have two Scorpions at the doors and you're practically stuck.

I'll just take BTB back.

Finished the campaign. I feel pretty decieved with the marketing. Campaign was one of the weakest in the series for me. There are some cool moments and the ending sets up a potentially exciting Halo 6, but it does so at the cost of its own narrative.

I feel like there isn't much character development at all.
The hunt/confrontation between Locke and Chief is also basically non existent. One cut scene of a fist fight, and then next time they meet Locke wants to be his friend. I get what happened, but it's really abrupt.
343 should stop pushing Locke so hard. He's a boring character (at least how he's presented in game). Every other Osiris member is more interesting, with Buck kind of being the highlight. I also feel ripped off finally seeing Blue Team in a game, only to get almost no screen time.

I came away disappointed by the campaign in both narrative and level/mission design. While encounter spaces did offer multiple options and made for fun combat bowls, the mission structure was just super linear and repetitive. There wasn't a single Silent Cartagropher or Halo style open level. There were some vehicle levels but even those were really linear. Felt like the campaign was really short too, I thought it was supposed to be longer than most Halo games? I loved Halo 4 despite some of the criticism, and expected big things from 343. This is the first time a Halo game has let me down.

I also really miss Firefight. It's a shame Halo 5 is launching with so many features missing.

Multiplayer nailed it though. Lots of fun. Warzone is a blast.

Speaking of new maps, do we have any ETA on when they should drop, as well as BTB? Or any ETA on an ETA? Hope it's this year :P

Hmmm, I'm not sure I quite like the campaign... so far at least. It's not much better than Halo 4, and the only interesting stuff so far is the stuff related to Cortana.
I'm on mission 7 and I've just been powering through so I can finish it and jump into Arena. Does it get better story wise?

Yup. Had a bad run tonight myself. Everyone on the team runs to first base, Nobody but me runs to fortress. I get there and try to delay enemy team but that fails and they steam rolll us. From there not a goddamn person but me thought to go around and get the other base. It was regularly that shit like that too.

Also for the love of christ people need to learn to not jump in front of teammates. I've regularly been shooting a fuel rod, etc and have a teammate hope over right in front of me. Same when I'm about to finish off an enemy. Still I enjoy my time with it though.

Play the campaign for the awesome levels, art, and the sublime gameplay, not the story. The story is bad.

:(
Hunt the Truth is so amazing story-wise, I was expecting something on that level. Fuck, I'm a bit sad now.

This was my most anticipated games this fall. Imagine how disappointed I am. I was hoping for a great story, and we ended up with a weak one. At least 343i know how to do everything else now. They'll get another go at the story with Halo 6.

This is one of the things I'm glad they did. Those are standard size in movies

Yeah, the recent trend of games having subtitles for fucking ants is infuriating.

I could do without the yellow, I'm not a huge fan of the typeface they used, and there are some issues like some lines not entirely matching up with the spoken dialogue, and some being flat-out missing, plus the usual game subs problem of the timing being kinda crappy, but the size at least they got right.

Weird. Was playing a game of Arena, and the instant the announcer said "Victory" I was kicked off XBL and told to update my software.

Do I at least get credit for the game?

Just finished the story on Legendary with 3 friends in co-op. Damn, the last two missions really ramp up the difficulty. Absolutely loved it though.

Completely by chance, we also managed to earn the 'Prison Break' achievement on the way! Apparently it's quite rare.

Wow.. today I palyed a lot!!
Me and my friends were having issues playing Warzone earliler but things seems to be fixed now. I played 33 matches, and 2 levels of coop with a friend! O_o
Really need to control myself and go back to reading a little... lol
I don't usually play during weekends though. This weekend may be no different.

Does anyone else have a problem sprinting consistently? Clicking the stick works in other games, so I'm sure it's not the controller.

Lol, nobody has any idea what they are doing in warzone.

People are going to play this mode once, lose 100-1000, have half their team quit, and never come back.

It's fun and I like the mode but its going to be eternally one sided matches.

Yup. Wasn't lone wolves like 5? I remember the overkill achievement in H3 being really hard because you had to kill literally all the other players.

Haha oh my god I had forgotten that one. That acheivement was insane. I worked so hard for that Hayabusa Armor...

Yeah I think it was 5. That would be even better--the maps just aren't that big. Not sure why they decided to go with 8, it just turns into who is the best at stealing kills.

I think people will learn what going on before it gets to that point...

When I've played it, the matches usually came to the wire...

Every match I've played has been to the wire.

I have seen the core go down a total of twice now. I have 6 hours in warzone.

Edit: Just checked and it's closer to 14, but who is counting...
