Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Yeah what? Those were all great maps. Especially the pit.

Yeah, Specifically the PIT, because of the giant wall in the middle that created standoff until power weapons came up, I was very active in the MLG forum before I started posting in GAF, and that was the debate.

Note: Im not saying they are bad, those are actually my favorites maps of Halo, Im just talking about the MLG forum what they talked about.

Pit was great, narrows would have been good but dynamic spawns fucked it. Construct was always terrible lol.

The Pit is probably my favorite map. Check out my MCC remake:

It's up on my fileshare.

Also, an annual HaloGAF tradition. The HaloGAF pumpkin symbolizing all of the stupid, clickbate shit I have posted.

Happy Halloween!

So basically all the maps are round, big walled, cluttered up a good bit or just a city like structure with a ton of walls and no sight points with power weapons to go run after in the outskirts and out of way places "yay"

I honestly fail to see where the map designs are good.

However; for those of you that like them that is completely fair and fine. It's all opinions as we know and we have to keep that in mind.

fathom is probably the closes we get to the basic halo design of a map like the pit but it still just feels a bit off.

I think the only map without any cross-map sightlines I've played on is Rig. Every other one has at least one of 'em. Hell, in the beta people were complaining that Empire had too many for how small a map it was. There's not really anywhere you can post up and dominate the entire map without threat of challenge, though (other than on Orion, which is, again, terrible).

I really have no idea where you're getting this stuff.

Long post

I disagree that it's not Halo. I think this is a very natural evolution of classic Halo, and I think it feels great.

I do agree, however, that the maps need so visual variety. The designs are not so bad themselves, but the themes are quite boring. Imagine this: Guardian inspired map (layout wise) themed like swords of sanghelios with ancient ruins and such. How amazing would that be?

Yeah, right:

Team Swat, we lose but I was so good ;_;..I hate when that happens. We had a player with 4 kills and 13 deaths in the team :/

Power weapons are out in the open so you can't just camp them to grab them.

Your team needs to be properly positioned on the map, slay the enemy team, then grab them... Idk how that's poor map design but we'll have to just agree to disagree.

Out in the open is not a choke point or push point. it just makes no sense for me. It's going out of your way to go get them instead of pushing forward. This will hopefully be changed for future objective modes..

At least you guys always have MCC, I'll be over here enjoying this amazing new edition to the series in the mean time.

Playing this game with a party in Arena is the most competitive and fun MP experience I've possibly ever had. It's great.

.

I'll be putting so much time into this. 343 nailed it IMO.

I think I've heard every Warzone map called out as the clear worst at this point XD

ARC haters vs. Storm haters vs. Apex haters: FIGHT!

Stormbreak's map flow is either go directly through the middle or go all the way around. If you don't own the fortress you aren't in for a good time.

Warzone boss scoring needs to be split per team by damage not final shot. I've stolen legendary kills just by shooting it once with a BR. The point swing on those is game changing.

Yep. Stormbreak is my least favorite Warzone map. You have the 2 paths around the fortress, in front and back in the rear where the Warden spawns, but the back is so far out of the way and unless you're attacking the opposite armory, a useless route. The path in the front leaves you completely vulnerable and unless a large part of your team is putting pressure on the fortress, you're going to get gunned down almost instantly.

343 did make human assets round for whatever reason. They always used to be angular vs covenant rounded.

Now UNSC stuff is rounded and covenent is just insect like.

Sniper rifle is a bit of an issue in warzone matches, anyone who has the commendation knows that the best power weapon is the one that keeps you out of harms way.

At least 6 people on the other team all had snipers on top of garage on that one warzone map.

My only issue with the maps is that they're somewhat similar in design/layout.

Now, I like the overriding design philosophy, don't get me wrong. I love the verticality and how the new armor abilities provide for multiple routes through the map to each power weapon, and how those routes provide plenty of cover to cross distance without getting cross-mapped every few seconds.

It's always fun when a player or team think they've got control of an area, and you jump, clamber up over a wall and come up behind them.

But I agree it would have been nice to get some wider, more open, less vertical maps in there to mix things up a bit.

Also visually, a few less industrial or urban settings would have been good.

This. It's also very refreshing to have a FPS with Ranking system

I think it's because of clamber, it reads really well for that mechanic. Look at the rocks on Orion and I think you see why everything is shaped the way it is.

That Spartan Dash that all players are equipped with, is like giving everyone their own personal energy sword.

Those defending the game as being a "natural progression", or whatever, are you really going to disagree with me on this?

You say it's now all about map and power weapon control.

But everyone basically spawns with one do they not?

Unless you're versing idiots, there's no point controlling the power weapons on the map. Every Spartan is faster, stronger, sneakier than before. They come at you and you don't stand a chance to actually engage in "gunplay". They all have dash and super silent radar prescence.

You're getting excited, ready to play some great halo. You're not wasting any time by sprinting. Pistol ready, to bust out some head shots. Then all of a sudden an enemy Spartan comes dashing out of nowhere. Surely he doesn't have a power weapon, cos you're guarding it. You're ready to land some brilliant shots, with one final to the head. He sprints toward you and bang, youre fucking knocked out cold by the Spartan dash or best case scenario your shields are down and he swiftly puts an end to you by spraying his AR. Uh, Where's this gunfight that's supposed to happen? Worse, he could have come from behind and you wouldn't even know what had hit you. And hey, every player is equipped with sprint forever, so he could have a team mate or 3 with him.

Now the above, you could argue, could be prevented by doing so and so or playing this and that way. But the point is, it still happens more than it should. And it does.

The gunplay may feel solid but there's definitely less chance of it occurring. And ha, power weapon control. Every Spartan is a fucking supercharged power weapon.

And No guys, the radar is NOT fine in arena. We all love a match where everyone's quit and you're the only one versing a full team. You know that feels good when you can take down an entire team by playing well, landing all your shots. You can't do that in halo 5. And I fucking miss that. That's magic. That's halo.

It's already bad in team based arena matches, I play in FFA. Imagine how fucking chaotic it gets in there. Less gunfights more holy-shit-wtf-is going on, peopling sprintin and flying and smashing everywhere. Certainly more so than in previous halos including 4.

They were slower, heavier, and even when they had sprint it was only for a short period of time. There were still strategic, well paced, skill and timing based battles. Not who can be more fast and furious.

Let's ignore who's right and wrong for now. Can those defending the game seriously say that you disagree with me here.

Got my first weapon skin! Too bad it's a smg, not that I don't like it, but I have a smg skin from preordering. Was hoping for a pistol skin.

If "Welcome to the Jungle" played while you used Appetite for Destruction....well that would be the best thing ever.

Complaining about Charge, and saying power weapon control doesn't matter just makes you look like you have no clue what you're talking about, lol.

Yes! I can.

Woooooooooooo

Spartan Charge is not like giving everyone their own personal energy sword, it's a 1sk from behind ONLY. From the front it's not. Situational awareness, breh. Thrust out the way and finish up your kill.

EDIT: And you know what's funny? A lot of power weapons serve as a perfect counter for the kind of behavior you seem to think is running rampant. Shotty will 1sk a fool before he can make contact with you, stick that SOB with a charged Plasma Caster and laugh while he explodes, sword, sniper, rockets, railgun, fuel rod... all of these things are MUCH MUCH better than the Spartan Charge.

This is saying a lot. I have t dived into arena yet. Just a few games of warzone. If people aren't familiar with your previous views on Halo, they should understand that you aren't a person to just say this.

This is ALMOST like Overdoziz saying he likes a game, any game.

Complaining about Charge, and saying power weapon control doesn't matter just makes you look like you have no clue what you're talking about, lol.

They dont. Spartan charge isn't an instant kill, so that invalidated the energy sword comparison as well, not to mention you can still trade melee if the person is facing toward you.

And that's without getting into the fact the running makes you an easy target who doesn't get their shields back.

And that's also without getting into the fact that you have a button that specifically works as a evade.

Let's ignore who's right and wrong for now. Can those defending the game seriously say that you disagree with me here.

I can and will. Spartan Charge isn't a guaranteed kill on contact like a sword is. In fact I've had multiple occasions of someone charging me, knocking my shields down but I end up killing them. That wouldn't have happened if they had a sword.

snowbound is atleast a map that I can run out and get into cross map battles and navigate around on. (as I was saying, it's not one of the better maps in h3) but it beats the crap out of these H5 maps.

I think it's the other way around as far as knowing what I'm talking about.

Like i said, these maps provide no even level play grounds and they aren't good.

They even tried to do mid ship twice it seems in halo 5 cause they don't know what to do.

Yes, it's good any time you have two good teams, as most the maps were in H3. Could be fun when two teams know how to play and go at it.

Lol @ doing Midship twice because they didn't know what to do. Too true. Maps are super disappointing.

Yeh, so pumped for this amazing game. My only concern now is how hard will the population be struck after BO3 and battlefront launch. Hope 343 can push out some new maps ASAP.

1) The new radar is pretty useless, but I'm fine with that. Forces you to be more aware of your surroundings and communicate with your teammates.

2) There's plenty of back and forth battles. Yes the speed has increased and the TTK has dropped, but this is still a far cry from COD or Destiny.

3) Calling the shoulder charge a power-weapon is kind of ridiculous. It's not a one-hit kill like a sword. It's only a kill if they catch you unawares (in which case, hat-tip to them), it takes a sustained sprint to actually activate, which gives you plenty of time to deal damage, and you can easily side-dash out of the way leaving them exposed to punishment.

4) The magnum kills far faster than the AR does.

It'll take a big population hit for sure. Unlike Halo 4 though the game is good enough to have a healthy playerbase for a long time.

Halo will never be as popular it was back in the 2/3 days but that's ok.

It's gonna happen, but if Halo is the better game it will level back off. I didn't even bother with COD this year. I'm sure there's more just like me.

The reason I am concerning is if player count goes to low I may have trouble finding players here in Taiwan.

Love the game so far, both campaign and MP. Hope I don't need to look at "searching for Spartans" for 10 minutes 3 months later.

Just played br only customs including no nades

The br gunplay is great - it's a lot of fun - it won't happen but a playlist with those settings would have me hooked forever

The game is great but in usual halo tradition ar starts gets in the way

God you sound like the worst sort of player. Of course I can disagree with you, because you're wrong. Incorrect. 100% false.

Run around an arena match and mash B, don't pick up any power weapons, see how you do. You'll be shit.
