I think I've already mentioned it in this thread, but last year Film Critic Hulk wrote up a fantastic essay where he essentially reviewed every single entry in the Bond series right up to Skyfall. Definitely a worthy read for any Bond fan. He covers all the Brosnan and Craig films here.

TWINE and TND are two that would have been pretty great entries with a few changes.

Jettisoning Dr Christmas and throwing that focus on Sophie and the other villain would have salvaged a lot. Since there are only two that get M involved so directly(The other being Skyfall). It would have been a more personal Bond film without really resorting to the same tricks the Craig era has picked up on.

TND I still love. Bias because it is my first in theater, but I also think it is still an extremely solid film with the best action direction outside of Casino Royale.

Was it just me or did Kleinmann's title sequence feel a bit unfocused and messy this time? Like it lacked the clear vision these usually have. Need to rewatch to really judge it properly.

Not just you. Hated the
octopus
theme, felt really weird. I liked all the call-outs to the previous films though.

Yeah it's not memorable at all. I remember the octopus theme and the callbacks but that's it. Definitely weaker than Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall's title sequences.

I'd rank title sequences as

1: Casino Royale/ Skyfall (they're both as good as each other)
2: Spectre
3: Quantom of Solace

Been re-reading Film Crit Hulk's Bond articles before going to see this. Was reminded of how silly so many of these films are, how shit a person Ian Fleming/'s Bond is, and how surprising it is that people like Quantum of Solace.

Haven't seen the movie yet but how is Bautista's role in this. Respectable role?
I'm a big fan of his.

It's essentially a supporting role, with the character sort of being an "Oddjob" or "Jaws" type character who's there to look menacing and say very little. He gets a great fight scene with Bond though. Personally, I was satisfied.

Die Another Day may be terrible, but a bearded, soaking wet James Bond staggering into an insanely high-end hotel only to be met with a smile and a "Ah! Welcome back Mr Bond!' is probably my favourite moment in any of the films.

^I'm afraid to highlight that SpaceWolf lol.
Haven't seen the movie yet.

Haha, didn't think that spoiler through. Sorry man.

Like Madrid said, I felt Mr Hinx was a fun character who had a great fight scene with Bond half way through the movie. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Really disliked Skyfall but found this quite enjoyable.

Lea Seydoux does brilliant work, Ben Whishaw (my bae) is fantastic and Daniel Craig is very wry.

I just rewatched Quantum of Solace for the 6th time, and it's still a fantastic, beautiful and very enjoyable movie to me. So now I am headed to the cinema to watch Spectre for the 2nd time.

I might actually like both the performance and character of Dominic Greene (and Le Chiffre) more than that of Oberhauser.

Of the four movies I feel that Oberhauser might even be the weakest antagonist. I loved Da Silva's exaggerated mannerisms, and Le Chiffre was just badass. Greene is pretty bland though, yet a bit of a creeper.

I've heard that the UK version had two scenes cut to get a 12A rating from originally being a 15 rating. Any idea if those will be back in the other versions of the film?

They cut the full penetration scene. You could see everything going in, it even had a slapping noise.

Oberhauser just feels a bit wasted. He feels very generic and traditional baddy. Plus some of his dialogue was pure shit. His backstory sucked too

tell us how you really feel :P

(I agree by the way; I feel they expected the retcon to cover his 'creepiness'. Then again there's only so much you can do with a villain who is literally introduced in shadow. It's hard to believe that's the same director who gave us Silva's INCREDIBLE introduction scene in Skyfall)

Oberhauser is pretty weak yeah. But I don't know about Silva, I didn't like him. Even though his introduction were one of the best for a Bond villain.

Honestly, the only Bond villain in Craig's films that was great was really just Le Chiffre and maybe Mr. White...aside from that, yeah, they've been weak. I like Oberhauser more than Greene and Silva though. I honestly liked Mr. Hinx more than the actual main villain of Spectre. It was good to see an actual henchman go toe to toe with Bond again.

Just finished my second watch.

To the above, yes Hinx is a better villain than Oberhauser. And so is Mr White and Le Chiffre yes.

Another thing I took with me is, that the movie could have been 20 minutes shorter. It starts to drag a little toward the end.

And I actually think I prefer Quantum of Solace now but Spectre is still way better than Skyfall.

Almost forgot, the title sequence of Spectre is better than QoS. I liked it this time.

How's the action and cinematography in this?

Action is great. Opening scene is stunning and the film has the best fight scene IMO in the entire series (train fight).

Cinematography is not as good as Skyfall but still superb, especially in the Rome scenes.

Watched it last night. I've collected my thoughts a bit but I'd rate them as:

Casino Royale - ★★★
Quantum of Solace - ★★★½
Skyfall - ★★★★½
Spectre - ★★★★

I've grown so bored with Casino Royale. Next to the more elegant three sequels (especially the two latter) it's looking plump. Mainly, I believe, that Martin Campbell doesn't know what style is. Quantum also draws a short stick with Marc Forster who hardly knows what to do with Bond but Tom Ford's influence on how Bond looks really nails the visuals like no Bond-movie before (or since).

Skyfall does just about everything right with what I like about Bond. The third act really drags the movie down from what could have been a true masterpiece of cinema. What really does it for me is how entertaining it is. Craig is really comfortable in the role at this point and it shows. Spectre is more of the same. Its biggest hurdle is that it's bogged down with conspiracy plots and the camp, which feels malplace in this universe. The biggest question is if Sam Mendes drops off as director: who will take up the mantle? The ante has been raised that any of the previous mediocre directors would likely just spoil the franchise.

Spectre is breaking box office records in all of the markets it has released in so far, surpassing Skyfall, which surprises me.

It's gonna be interesting to see how much it can take in.

Anyway, if I have to rank Craig's movies now, after having seen Spectre twice, it's gonna look like this:

1. Casino Royale ★★★★★
2. Quantum of Solace ★★★★
3. Spectre ★★★★
4. Skyfall ★★

I really hope Daniel Craig does one more.

Tom Ford should just direct a bond movie already lol. Since he has no experience with action maybe hire a second unit director for all those scenes.

Tom Ford should direct a Bond short. 35 minutes of dialogue and clothes. (A Single Man is great.)

What's crazy about QoS is that due to the writers strike, even Craig had to chip in on rewriting some scenes.

It was a clusterfuck.

SPECTRE took the opening record from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which was also released on a Monday to £23.882 million. SPECTRE also achieved a new record for the highest seven-day gross in UK box office history, overtaking the last James Bond film, Skyfall.

SPECTRE, the 24th James Bond adventure, continues the longest running and most successful film franchise in cinema history. The film opened in 647 cinemas and on 2,500 screens, making it the widest release of all time in the UK and Ireland.

The UK wasn’t alone in shattering box office records as nearly every releasing market saw SPECTRE make history as the biggest box office opening of all-time.

In the Netherlands, SPECTRE took in 3.3 million Euro ($3.7 million USD), surpassing the record set by Skyfall and bringing its cume to $3.9 million including previews.

In the Nordic region, markets distributed by MGM, SPECTRE took in a total of $12.7 million USD, setting new opening records in Finland and Norway, both surpassing Skyfall – Finland took in 2.35 million Euro ($2.63 million USD), and Norway 24.4 million krone ($2.88 million USD). The film also set a new record in Denmark for the biggest three-day opening of all time, as SPECTRE took in 28.1 million krone ($4.21 million USD), also surpassing Skyfall. In Sweden, SPECTRE took in 24.95 million krone ($2.97 million USD), a result that is 30% over the opening of Skyfall.

SPECTRE has also set a new IMAX record, recording the highest per-location average in IMAX history as the first film ever to top a $100,000 per-location average, with $105,000 in 47 IMAX locations.

I thought it was long, boring and clichéd to the Max.

The idea to tie everything neatly to the previous films was unnecessary, and the reason was too soap operish for me. I half expected Joey from Days of Our Lives to appear and raise an eyebrow. It just felt like they were trying too hard to fit round pegs into square holes. It just didn't jive with the previous films - except maybe the second half of Skyfall where we are introduced to some of the classic characters like Q and Moneypenny.

But mostly it just bored me. Apart from the brutal fight on the train, which was actually too short, nothing really caught my attention in a good way.

And then there's the happy riding off into the sunset ending. Ugh. I don't have a problem with happy endings. Just ones that look like they were written by a 10 year old.

Maybe I'll feel differently on a rewatch, but right now ....nope.

For the next Bond film, I'd love them to...

-Bring Daniel Craig in one final time.
-Bring Christopher Nolan in as Director.
-Bring in Radiohead to do the theme.
-Get a female Bond villain.

Didn't enjoy this, and I'm not sure why. It felt a bit joyless (not a Craig criticism, I think he's great) and while technically it had all the elements of a great Bond film, it didn't really combine into something fun. Think I'll give it another shot on DVD and see if it's better the second time through.

Yup.

-Bring Christopher Nolan in as Director.

Nope. If you're going to bring in someone like Nolan then you're better doing it for the next iteration of the franchise when the director can stamp his own distinct style on it. Creatively it makes no sense for him to be a 'squad player' in the series.

-Bring in Radiohead to do the theme.

Yup. This would honestly be amazing. When the rumours for this didn't pan out it made the wretched offering from Sam Smith all the harder to endure.

Though I think a Radiohead theme might be better suited to a new Bond rather than the next Daniel Craig entry.

-Get a female Bond villain.

Yup. I hadn't really considered this but that's a great shout. As long as Bond doesn't end up ploughing her that could work really well. Monica Bellucci would have been perfect.

Was there a scontract signed with the car manufacturers that the vehices would not take damage in the movie, because that
Buatista
car chase with them sports cars banging into this and that and even going down a flight of stairs but cars not even getting scratched was kinda ridiculous.
