Right now I'm leaning toward

S- 3
P-4
E-1
C-4
I-8
A-5
L-3

or maybe

S- 4
P-4
E-1
C-4
I-8
A-4
L-3

I always tend to play high intelligence characters that can hack and lockpick. Here's hoping you can still edit weight with command lines haha

After the revelation surrounding Charisma being less useful than before, it's prompted me to have a double take at my SPECIAL. So far Perception is down 2, Agility and Charisma are both down 1, Endurance and Strength are both up 2.

S: 6
P: 4
E: 5
C: 3
I: 2
A: 3
L: 5

I started off wanting a balanced build with a focus on VATS but I've definitely readjusted into a more heavy duty fighter class after Charisma got nerfed. I threw a lot into Strength in order to get the Strong Back perk. I fucking HATE Encumbrance with a burning passion and if that keeps it "off my back" as it were, I am over the moon.

EDIT: Help me decide, GAF. I'm thinking of bumping my Intelligence up by 1 in order to get Gun Nut (Weapon mods), and lower Luck by 1, thus losing Pot Luck which would be useless to me anyway since my Intelligence just went up. That's the tradeoff: Low Intelligence to get extra EXP randomly or get access to weapon mods. I honestly don't know which way to go. How random is this Pot Luck perk exactly?

Hey, go wherever you want. Make any kind of character you want.

But first, we're going to give that character a specific voice, and opinions and reactions that we decide.

And we're going to give them a backstory. And a spouse. And a baby. And the plot is going to revolve around them.

And there's a lot of dialogue in the game, but you can't ask all the questions you would want, you kind of just have to guess what you think you want to say and hope it was good.

But you can shoot Codsworth in the face!

Does Bethesda like...not know what Fallout is? This really feels like a total retread of their problems from FO3. It's supposed to be about immersion and making your own character, not constraining them to your bullshit story.

Like really, who is gonna be like "Oh voice acting, I have to play Fallout now"

This is seriously the dumbest thing they could have done to this game. I don't know about this one anymore, if it's as bad as it seems.

And even though dialogue and writing hasn't been Bethesda's strong point, I think a silent PC provided a healthy AAA counterpart to everyone else in the industry going the cinematic Bioware route, which was something I appreciated. Now we don't even have that any more. Forcing pre-defined voice acting on your character alters the whole feel for these games and not in a way that I like.

This development of the franchise pretty much mirrors the steep turn for the worse Dragon Age 2 took.

Lacks polish :/

Yeah, looks like it had to come out now. Animations are as bad as every Gamebryo game before, graphics look lacklustre (effects are especially bad but environmental details aren't great either, texture quality is too hard to tell with the compression), the lighting looks last gen, the AI (only watched the third video) is laughable. Super mutants used to be living tanks. And the rat doesn't even react to the player shooting at it. Might be a difficulty level thing but I fear it is not. Looks very alpha, not at all what I expected from Bethesda.

Sounds like a nightmare to anyone who actually wants to, you know, role play a character.

It does, but there's loads to the left of the stiched map that's missing.

Edit: Seen your edit and how's it the local map when the screenshot was taken outside of the little red rocket hut?

The local map is the smaller area map with topographic (i think) features.

Compare it to fallout 3's local map

And fallout 3's pipboy large map.

White_House_loc.jpg

Also it seems that the pipboy has the option of hitting square for the map, i would think this is like in fallout 3 where you could toggle maps in the pip boy UI.

I agree he didn't edit in the ENTIRE MAP, but i'll guess he thought the boundaries were all that mattered.

It's been confirmed by leakers. They answered one of the questions and the conversation ended and they couldn't ask the others.

Every dialogue option we've seen so far in the game sticks with that and you can't go back.

What? Why the fuck would they do that?

So the graphics aren't too hot, and the dialog system looks like shit (hoping it isn't, but leakers have confirmed otherwise)

At least I have the gunplay and crafting to look forward to :/

New (?) 30 minutes gameplay:

The user on reddit who posted it is also uploading it to vid.me:

Not 30 minutes and not new. It's the same Super Mutant fight, but in much lower quality.

Every dialogue option we've seen so far in the game sticks with that and you can't go back.

It's funny how folks selective glean information to maintain their anger about this game. You have a single dialog situation that has now been blown up to cover the entirety of ALL dialog options in Fallout 4, and people now saying there is no "roleplaying" in the game or "speech checks" - except yanno, now that the guy has actually played the game for much longer that's all been confirmed to be not true. But sure. Laser focus on one thing from early in the weekend of leaks.

christ. I never imagined that one sentence could cause me to lose so much interest in a game.

Lone Bounty Hunter-Ninja Survivalist (No-VATS or Power Armor)

I think I will start at:
Strength [1] (later 4)
-Armorer: I get to build the best (looking) armor
-Blacksmith: Looking for some stealthy melee stuff

Perception [4] (later 8)
-Rifleman: It's the most important perk in existence to my build. Will max that with priority. Might also affect shot gun damage.
-Locksmith: Always nice to have, since standing before a locked locker is always disheartening. 3/4 might be enough, since the last rank only makes lockpicks indestructible, which is "nice to have" but not "must have".
-
Later:
-Sniper: More control and possibly knockback

Endurance [1] (later 9)
Endurance have some nice perks but nothing I want at the start of the game.

Later:
-Toughness: 'Nuff said
-Aqua Boy: Great for finding submerged items and being completely stealthy in water sounds amazing
-Ghoulish: No need to worry about BS "radiation is killing me" mechanics

Charisma [6]
For speech checks so maybe you want to level it sooner or later just for that. Since the beginning is pretty point starved, I wouldn't go all the way right away:
-Lone Wanderer: Holy moly. 50% damage resistance and +200 carry weight?
-Local Leader: Having access to vendors in your home base sounds neat. Since I will probably only have a single settlement, the first perk is rather pointless to me.

Intelligence [8]
Int gives additional EXP,
-Medic: Efficiency is key. Stimpacks now heal over time. Combining Lone Wanderer and Toughness, means you can probably face tank any kind of damage, while regenerating life.
-Gun Nut: High priority skill to make my sniper rifle even better.
-Hacker: Less important than lockpicking, but it's just as much infuriating.
-Scrapper: If materials are hard to come by this will be good
-Robotic Expert: Sounds fun and I would imagine any place with robots will be worth scavenging around

Agility [7]
-Mister Sandman: Silence weapons will be amazing, taking out enemies without people knowing where I am.
-Ninja: Amazing damae
-Sneak: Great to have, shoot from long range then sneak inside a base to finish off others

Luck [1]

TL;DR
Core skills (8):
-Rifleman
-Locksmith
-Hacker
-Gun Nut
-Lone Wanderer
-Gunslinger
-Ninja
-Sneak

Secondary skills (4):
-Scrapper
-Armorer
-Blacksmith
-Aqua Boy
-Ghoulish

I get to start off with some great perks that I can invest in. I hear leveling is pretty fast so I should be able to easily put points into STR/PER/END while playing the game to help me. My investment into END will help me back OP so that will probably happen later on in the game.

I think the more cinematic style conversations are a huge improvement on the FO3-NV style.
I found it ridiculously frustrating / boring going through the enormous dialogue options from the past games in case i missed a quest or important piece of information.
It also took me completely out of the game not having a voice protagonist.
So for me this new style looks a lot more focused, and im extremely looking forward to playing it.

What? Why the fuck would they do that?

It can't be correct.

Even if it is the case surely you can initiate a conversation with that NPC again, and ask the other question. But even then that kills having an inquisitive dialogue when the person you're speaking to turns away from you and starts to walk away after each response.

Man it's getting really hard to not get hyped up for this game... Need to stay strong, wait for reviews, and hopefully a few months to pass...

christ. I never imagined that one sentence could cause me to lose so much interest in a game.

I think it happened one time as I recall. It's possible it was a bug that prevented this. Not sure why it's being thrown around as fact unless that person came back and clarified this happens every time.

My main takeaway from this footage, that new lewt system

Also, as someone who has been playing New Vegas pretty heavily over the last 2-3 weeks, the character animation, control, and combat seem much improved.

Less than 8 days now, hyped as fuck.

eurgh, 'cinematic' is the last thing I want from these games

Fair point. I haven't banked much time in ME games, so I can't speak much to them as the gold standard in dialogue trees, however, we all categorize responses in our heads to those "nice" "dickish" "investigate" categories whether the game does it for us or not.

I don't know, I would like the loot system better if there was a "take all" option on the first screen, but it seems like you have to enter the more advanced menu to do that.

That first link just download an exe onto my comp, then it installed and the installer disappeared.... dodgy fucking shit... "MEGAsyncSetup.exe"

I believe there's an option to download the footage without downloading their installer.

That said it's not worth downloading. It's 10 minutes of old footage.

looks horrible. Why is there so much hype for this?

I'm guessing you mean it looks horrible as in the graphics aren't great?

So you have no hype for this just because of the graphics? Not interested in story / immersion / fun at all then?

Well, since everyone else is also doing it, I'm gonna use this space as a build placeholder for myself.

S - 1
P - 4
E - 2
C - 2
I - 4
A - 5
L - 10

Maybe. Probably. I know I'm gonna do 4 PER and INT and 10 LUCK, at least.

So the animations are pretty ass and the dialogue options are nonexistent/why-tier? Welp. I remember seeing a Yes, No, Sarcastic, and *other*(can't remember) on the dialogue wheel. What the hell do you say when you're sarcastic? Do I have to guess?

You have to select the option "Download through your browser". Anyway, as other people said, it's old gameplay.

Well this is what people were going on.

If you look at the opening in the house with the guy from Vault Tec, he asks you a question, you give an answer, move on, like that on and on. Okay, no big deal, 3/NV had a couple of those.

But then these leakers come out as say you can't ask multiple questions in certain dialogues, and there are very very little amounts of speech checks compared to the old game.

Yeah, I may be overreacting. Obviously the game isn't out yet, people need to get their hands on but, you can't deny that with all the voice acting, and what we've seen, it feels suspect. Like they might have made a huge mistake.

And I'm sorry, but the dialogue system in Fallout is really important to me. It's my favorite thing about these games, and I don't know if I want to play this game if it doesn't have it.

I'm of course willing to say I did a bad Perception check if all this ends up being BS.

Help me decide, GAF.

This looks exactly like what I thought Fallout 4, the sequel to Fallout 3, would look like. Well done, Bethesda, you have certainly lived up to your own standards.

I'm so tempted to get this when it releases but I know my time will be spent on Black Ops 3 for a few months.

I'm getting swept up in the hype for this, as despite never completing it I love Fallout 3.

I'd go with 5 LUCK and Idiot Savant (not Pot Luck, where did you get that?), I'm sure weapon mods won't be very relevant for at least the first 4-5 hours of the game. Random 3x exp chance on the other hand might mean an extra level, depending on lady luck.

should I buy day one or wait until bugs been ironed out? Have prior Fallot titles been ok day one?

Really on the fence with this game
