Lab Zero's Indivisible to feature indie guests (Shantae, Shovel Knight, Juan, & more)

Red would feel a little too Super Indie Brothers, IMO. You can make reasonable-ish excuses for the rest of these characters existing in Indivisible's setting, but Red's pretty tied down to the scifi nature of her game.

Crossing my fingers for Transistor's Red.

Yeah, I'm into that idea. Papyrus from Undertale could be amazing too.

one of these characters is a skateboarding dinosaur

Dark-Skinned
Female
Southeast Asian

I can't even remember the last time a lead is based on these 3 traits at once.

According to one of the devs, this combination of characteristics was a turn-off for one of the publishers they talked to. Games starring such characters won't exist unless we help make them.

Hopefully one day, it doesn't have to come to this. But until then...

I was just thinking her sword and design could be retro-fied and have her use magic, if her creators were okay with it.

Lab Zero bringing together fans and characters from all walks of gaming. I love it~!

I've already contributed to the Indivisible campaign, but I plan on contributing more soon. I believe in Lab Zero.

This is pretty cool! Shame this was announced so far into the campaign though. 11 days left for 900k. It could happen but...

A skate-boarding dinosaur is okay, but Red is not?

Seriously, if everyone thought that way, then nothing would ever get funded.
I got burned pretty bad many times before. Hell half of the Kickstarter projects I backed estimated for 2013 are still nowhere done.

Personally I was kind of done with crowd-funding, but this one just seems to hit all the right notes. Even I can't ignore it ;)
God, but Papyrus or Undyne would be sort of amazing.
Fishwoman throwing ice spears as partymember would be the shit

What is blowing my mind right now (aside from Annie omg) is the fact that they got a Battle Chasers character already. These deals are crazy, man. What devils is Ravi negotiating with? lol

I've never played Super Time Force Ultra (though now I have to at least check it out which of course is part of the point of these cross-overs) but a skateboarding dinosaur just got announced. I'm pretty sure that is a bigger stretch on suspension of disbelief.

Zackasaurus from Super Time Force Ultra

Why settle for anything but the best.

Will this be on WiiU?
I had my suspicions right from the start of the campaign that Indivisible was too much for last gen consoles. No handheld or last gen console will be able to handle it.
Vita and Wii U will never happen.

I mean, surely everyone's noticed that the Vita port is taking us a lot longer than we anticipated, and this game is more system intensive than Skullgirls.

And the PS4 version doesn't use all the PS4's RAM by a longshot, but it already uses more than the Wii U has available.

Again, the skateboarding dinosaur doesn't really challenge the premise of the setting or its' 'time period'. My argument isn't really suspension of disbelief and more consistency. Dinosaurs are zany, but I think it'd be weirder for a character largely defined by sci-if concepts and who literally wields a transistor sword to exist unquestioned in the sort of setting the game is in.

By time this game comes out (if it comes out), NX will probably be out, so committing to Wii U now would be a bit daft.

not even for that reason, but its from technical limitations

Still not a fan of the character design, but Shovel Knight just guaranteed a pledge from me come Thursday, regardless of how he ends up looking like. Although the chances of the game happening are still slim. :(

Personally I'm not a fan of guest characters, especially for a game like this. At this point in the campaign though if it gets funded I will most definitely deal with it.

Capy was very happy with our early concept sketches, and I can't wait until they're finished.

Despite what I said about guest characters just now I am still very curious to see them translated to this style. Hope they're done soon!

I don't think guest characters need to fit into the logic of the game, and as others have mentioned, Zackasaurus is way way crazier of an inclusion--though I love it.

Anyways, this news tipped me over the fence into backing it. I backed Skullgirls as a fighting game fan, but I've been teetering over whether or not to make the jump on this game, despite loving the character and world design.

A sprite-based game with 3D backgrounds and the Wii U can't handle it?

Jesus...

This sort of animation takes up a lot of memory, and the environments are a lot more intensive than anything in Skullgirls.

It's RAM, not the system power.

I'm just kind of a stickler for this sort of thing. I like having everything rationalized in a setting and a blatant sci-fi character feels a lot harder to accept in a fantasy setting than a rad dinosaur.

Well id assume its because the way lab zero does its art for its characters. They're done at a very high resolution, higher than pretty much every other game out there and they have a ton of frames of animation.

Gotta get one of those French Bread characters in there! Tap into that Japanese vein somehow :P

I know a lot of people are actually turned off by the prospects of guest characters - particularly the more out of setting characters like time traveling dinosaurs - but I'm sure it'll be very easy to ignore this stuff if you don't want it, and will just be an awesome perk for those who do.

We're not really worried about the crossovers "fitting" too much, outside of the art style.

They'll likely come through a "dimensional rift" in Ajna's Inner Realm or something like that, to make it clear they're guests in this world.

We mostly just want to make fun RPG characters out of other cool indie games.

Shit, that's a hell of a lineup of guests! Hope this gets people more interested, but until there's some concept art out in the wild I'm not expecting huge boosts in backers (though I'd love to be proven wrong).

So are these all gonna be party member incarnations? That's super cool if true. I guess you guys already budgeted out for all of these guests?

Red from Transistor should be attempted. This might be impossible, but either Patricia Wagon or Shantae from Wayforward would be great additions.

The Drifter is one of the confirmed characters
I guess I just find that easier to buy than a character who's powerset is mired in pseudo-programming language and visual motif in a major regard exists to evoke circuitry? I'm not, like violently repelled by the idea or anything. I just have my preference.

Regardless, there's been some clarification on the nature of the guests so it's not something for me to stress over particularly.

I'm surprised that there is no one from French Bread. Orie would be pretty cool in this game. I'm not in a rush for more cameo characters since it must take quite a bit of time and energy to get them in the first place. Lab Zero works hard enough as is.

Can't wait to use Annie and Drifter, though!

Shantae seems almost too obvious a pick, haha. She'd fit right in.

The chance of a PS4-exclusive incarnation seems a bit unlikely, but Kat from Gravity Rush would also slot in fairly well. Even if Ravi just said that consistency doesn't matter for guests
