So many people planning INT builds. What's the reason for this?

EXP

I'm currently going for INT 4 and LUCK 10 to see how often the Idiot Savant perk actually does give me triple exp. Shouldn't take long to see if INT 10 is the better choice.

Kinda hope not, cause the LUCK perks are hilarious, but I want to get as much EXP as I can. Maybe I'll just go for 10 on both lmao.

I'm never good at leveling up my character in rpg's I'll give the calculator a look when I get home since I'm on mobile right now. Any tips for a stealth gunner?

Edit: I don't plan on using companions and I want to use VATS, melee and all guns. What's a good SPECIAL to start with?

Noob question here, but can you bump those up by 1 for every level you gain?

You can, but you should be conservative with that since perk effects are often more powerful. I doubt I'll be increasing SPECIAL that much, other than to unlock tiers for the perks I want.

I very much doubt BTW that idiot savant would be better than 10 INT, that'd be terrible design balance-wise. What I'm curious about is its proc rate with higher INT, there's bound to be a sweet spot where the combination of the two is most effective.

I'll probably bump Luck up to 6 so I can get the critical bonus but that'll be it I think.

Yup you totally can. Can pick 1 perk or 1 special each level up.

I am going to try a bit of a weird build at the start. High int so I can level up faster and get the perks and more special stats I want. Then I want fairly decent Charisma to pass any conversation speech checks I run into.

I think I am going to roll the dice on the Luck perks that can randomly reward 3x and 5x for any action , that proc the lower your INT. Unless the proc rate has already been shown to be super low even at 1 INT, it seems like a good way to balance a low INT build and still get some solid XP.

Regardless of initial choices, can you get all perks and Max special ( 10 in each?)

In theory, yes. There's no hard cap on levels. I'm not sure we have enough information to know how slow leveling will be past 50 though.

Assuming a single bobblehead per stat, you're looking at 25 levels to cap all stats, and then there's what, 70 perks with a varied number of levels in each, so I'd guess at least 150 levels needed to max everything out.

I wonder about that one. Can you get triple xp from a quest reward? Cant you just quicksave and load before major xp rewards until you get triple the amount?

Going with this here:

I'm curious about Charisma, the description says that it increases your chance to persuade in dialogue. There's however no specific perk in regards to persuasion outside of the gender based perk.

Do we know if the description refeers only to the persuasion in regards to that perk, or is there a different type of persuasion that isn't gender based and will have a better chance of success based solely on how much charisma you have? so at 5 charsima I would have a higher chance than with 2 charisma?

High perception, agility, and luck.

Agility seems useless to me. Most of it involves VATS and stealth. Luck has a lot of Critical Hits tied into it, which is more a VATS thing, also.

I'm probably just going to make everything an even 4 at the start. Most of the perks past the 4th tier in the majority of trees don't seem particularly up my alley. I'm just not seeing much that enhances my playstyle dramatically.

You even read the perk chart? Agility has boosts for shooting from the hip and without VATs. It also has perks to boosts action points, which are used for sprinting and to increase accuracy while sprinting.

Most of the perks have nothing to do with VATs.

No idea what kind of character I'm going to make yet, but I'm trying to decide whether to buy Xbox One controller for this or not.
Wonder how is the targeting on controller and if there's any reason to use KB/Mouse over it?

I want to shoot stuff (with but mostly without VAT), run a lot and be a loner...
Does this build make sense to the Fallout veterans?

Strength 1
Perception 6
Endurance 4
Charisma 3
Intelligence 3
Agility 6
Luck 5

Is there a tutorial on the level system and perks? I'm so lost. Bobblehead? The hell?

I'll make it easy on you. Just go
S 4
P 4
E 4
C 4
I 4
A 4
L 4

That way you are balanced and when you level up you can look at the perks and decide which ones you want and if you need to add any points. Play the game and you'll figure out what works best for you.

Bobbleheads are items hidden in the game that usually raise one stat. They are not required or anything but very useful.

That launch trailer is absolutely fine. The only things i really don't like much are the facial expressions during the conversations..it looks...static, odd. But the locations look fine, really fine.

Are most people going to play without VATS now? As someone who loves VATS, I hoped it isn't gimped in any way. I haven't really been following the news about the game though so I have no idea what to expect.

Does anyone have a feel yet (by watching the streams) if the Idiot Savant perk is as good as it sounds? I want to play a high INT character but random 3X and 5X XP sounds kinda nice.

The only thing i know is from what Bethesda said...VATS won't totally pause the game, things will slowly go on. I am fine with that.

Just like F3 and NV... Shoot until in range manually and then use VATS as fail-safe once close enough and in a pinch. My whole build is built around that.

Think I kinda know what I'll be doing, but I may throw it out and do something different when the game is actually on.

str 3 - this allows armor mods. I'm not planning a melee focused character.
per 4 - I'm really looking for demolitions expert, which I used in other FO game(s), but I shaved this to 4 and will rely on finding a bobblehead. I like blowing shit up.
end 3 - some baseline endurance and the potential for HP perk if I decide I need it
char 4 - this is hard because I'm not entirely clear how charisma affects dialog and where the threshholds are. I didn't want to be totally uncharismatic. I'd also like the chance to possibly get the animal taming perk at 5 char which I'd need a bobblehead for.
int 5 - scrapper, and bobblehead could get me to 6 for high tech mods
agi 6 - this helps my sneaking and puts me a bobblehead away from the powerful looking ninja perk
luck 3 - I shaved points and left the perks to bobbleheads to spill a couple points into luck because I feel vaguely uncomfortable with leaving it at 1, though there's no particular perk I need.

Yep. Complete blackout from here on out. no twitch, no streams, nothing.

Wait, are you worried about the story in a fallout game? Theyre all just "Uhhhhhhhhh, I did random shit in the desert and then reached an unsatisfying ending". Even 1 and 2 are like that, the Mutant Base and the Oil Rig were the worst parts of the game. This is definitely a game about the journey and not the narrative

I'm planning to use it a lot..I'll be keeping my Perception and Agility high.
And just shooting out out VATS when I'm desperate and out of AP.
Might snipe out of VATS sometimes too.

I'm going Stoic Gunslinger, so I'm looking for heavy VATS and Crits. I'm toying with this:

S: 1
P: 5
E: 2
C: 3
I: 4
A: 6
L: 7

Aiming for these as final(ish) Stats (about 20 points into Specials):

S: 7 (I want the Hip Fire Perk)
P: 10 (?)
E: 3
C: 3
I: 5
A: 10
LCK: 10

No intention of building a settlement or using companions with this build.

S: 6 - Strong Back because fuck off encumbrance, plus Weapon and Armorsmith
P: 4 - Rifleman, Awareness for VATS intel and assist with Lockpicking
E: 5 - Marine Boy for underwater breathing and Life Giver for a bit of extra health
C: 3 - Lone Wanderer is useful for when I just wanna wander alone but apart from that, not much special early on. VANS seems like a complete waste of a perk
I: 2 - Low Intelligence for Idiot Savant
A: 3 - Gunslinger and Commando because, well....Do you need to ask? Sneak is useful too
L: 5 - Scrounger for loot, Bloody Mess for Bloody Mess, Mysterious Stranger because of course and Idiot Savant for extra EXP

Holy shit that trailer. From what I gather you will help the brotherhood of steel fight the institute which has been creating synthetic humanoids, the brotherhood seems to have some kind of airship as their base which is going to crash near the end? What I don't understand though is why the player is attacking the brotherhood in a scene maybe you can choose?

VATS doesn't stop time anymore, it slows down time like in the Witcher 3 when you open your equip menu in combat. Not sure if you would consider that gimped or not. But you should know that plenty of people play Fallout like an FPS which is why there was a lot of concern over it's shooting mechanics early on.
