1 companion. Dog counts as companion. One of the Charisma perks lets you have two.

Which perk? I know that this was stated in some wikis a couple of days ago, but the perk descriptions (see nukahub) do not seem to indicate this.

Anyone else who can confirm max 1 companion, with the dog counting as 1?

No you didn't. I don't think I ever heard anyone say that.

Let's hope Bethesda doesn't see your post.

I liked them too honestly :P.

And I know I've heard other people say that. Now, it's definitely not the popular opinion but it's not so rare that only me and that guy have said it.

Lone wanderer all day baby, I'll say what's up to these companions whenever I'm back at the settlement

Might roll with the dog every once in awhile but that's it

yeah i never cared for the companion thang in new vegas in game like this... the point of it is to be alone... the only thing they were ever good for was being a item mule lol...

I've watched the stream for a good hour or two and man, I am really not liking anything I'm seeing. It literally looks like Fallout 3 HD, down to the same (really shitty) hacking minigame. The character speaking is bad. The dialogue selections are awful, and so is the blocking and facial animations. I think I'm just gonna pass for a while until mods make it palatable or something.

Look at some screenshots of Fallout 3 and come back.

I did and shit you're right, I take back everything I've said and am now super hyped for Fallout 4 despite it not doing anything new or interesting, as per the point I was making, that you were being super pedantic about. Thanks for showing me the light.

See you on Tuesday!

Really? I just looked through the charisma perks and didn't see one that said this.

Count me into the curious ones as well.
I'm going with a considerably high charisma on my first playthrough and I found that interesting.

Oh-god, I hope one of the patches fixes the frequency of repeated companion dialogue.

Random comment, I've been really impressed with the game's score thus far (alongside all of the radio music choices!), which I've never really found to be that memorable previously outside of the main theme.

GUYS !!

quick question on companions as im making my character

are they ALWAYS around? meaning you can spawn/call one anytime? or are they sparse and must be found and can die easily?

its either I go lone wolf or robotics expert with my build. Having both seems redundant?

As far as I understand, companions can never die. They just get incapacitated and have to be "revived" by a stimpack.

I have to babysit a software release next Saturday so I have Tuesday 11/10 off. Veteran's day off as well. I am going to put so many hours into this game!

Hines or Howard said explicitly one companion max.

However, there are three cha perks that will let you have temporary "companions". More like a charm type effect on enemies.

I think there are 2 perks that give you a chance to 'pacify' wasteland people and animals and command them at higher perk levels. I assume it means for that combat only. They don't become companions.

Is it true there is no level cap and you can use a level up for a stat or a perk?

Like, I can start out as:
http://www.nukahub.com/tools/special?s=3&p=8&e=2&c=5&i=5&a=3&l=2

but then use my first 6 level ups to get:
http://www.nukahub.com/tools/special?s=6&p=8&e=2&c=6&i=6&a=3&l=2

Since I tend to be a hoarder so the sooner I can get level 30 and the Strong Back perk the better.
(I like to plan for the future, so I'd probably get the stats before the perks. lol)

Yup that's exactly how it is.

This is the exact quote from Hines:

So, max 1 companion, and the dog is not a "bonus companion".

Again, as a newb here, the companions seem fun/different.

Are they all basically the same? I see I can have a dog/robots? should I put points to utilize both or focus on one? can I essentially have a companion the ENTIRE game?

so we can only have either the dog or another human?

Jesus I mean I love the dog but we'll see how useful he is.

At least with the dog you won't have an idiot saying you're always on your good behavior for every 5 seconds or so.

Although why people would want a companion hanging around while exploring games like Fallout 4 is beyond me. Totally kills the immersion and the presence of an unpredictable AI support can screw you of your plan (like stealthing stuff up, for example)

I haven't watched any FO4 footage, but based on the previous games, they are all pretty much the same. Just different backstories and combat styles.

They're actually pretty cool. The one I'm currently rolling around with is obsessed with medical stuff so they comment on things in that regard. It seems each companion also has lines recorded for each situation, whether a mission or wandering around so you could get a different line of flavor talk depending on who you have with you.

Also they carry things for you, so thank god for them.

I know im asking questions like mad but here goes

Should I STOP adding points to my SPECIAL one perk before the one I want to end up at? so that I can find the one bobble head that gives a permanent +1 attribute point?

I mean lets say if I really like night person in perception, I should not initially get that perk but rather stop at demo expert?

Here's the thing. It's a big game. You may not ever find the bobblehead you want without using a guide. You should just put the points in and if you find the bobblehead, think of it as a nice bonus.

Damn. Stellar if true. So many hours of post post apocalypse.
Nothing of relevance to me tho, since I plan on building a single mega-city, with two huge building complexes, stores, defenses etc which will also include a big ass tower from which I will sniper the shit out of any attacker. Next to it on the top, I will park my power armor and go wreck havoc once they breach the walls. Will use the power armor solely for that purpose. It will be glorious.

I have drawn a crude layout of how it will look:
